Scooter
This is one of the cheapest affordable and affordable scooters I have ever seen.
If you want to teach your child to drive a vehicle - this will be the best first purchase on the way to his car. Of course, admiration in the eyes of those around this scooter does not cause. Only schoolchildren used such scooters. It gave them a good idea of the rules of the road and motor repair. Of course the student will not like such a gift. For a student it would be better to buy a car.

2017 Abs Model On An 18 Plate
Traded an nmax 125 in for a brand new commuter scoot nmax 125 unregistered 2017 model on an 18 plate. I have been comuting on 125, s now for 3 years the fastest road i go down is a 40mph i do 20 miles per day and do it in all weather. Im 43 years of age 17 stone bout 5 foot 6. Had a great deal on the xmax from dudley motor cycle center at this moment in time im on 170 miles so am in the running in period, no excessive rpm for prolonged periods and such until 600 miles is achieved. Other bikes owned all from brand new were ybr 125 2013 model and nmax 125 scooter 2015 model so these are my comparisons for this review. Other reviews i read dont always compare to other 125, s they waffle on about random things like the bike aint anything like my r1 and that sort of twoddle so hear goes, yrb was very basic but did the job ish, nmax was a vast improvement due to the extra luggage space and the variomatic transmission, instead of a manual gear change you have a belt drive system that changes pulley size making the belt ride higher thus changing the gears in relation to road speed and engine rpm. Wow no more wearing out of the right boot due to gear changing. Less moving about on the scooter, a better in my opinion system that allows the engine to sort of rev higher consistantly working in its torque zone. These scooters race off the lights leaving motorists checking there facebook status all day long. The nmax was a vast improvment over the ybr hands down. Im now a scooter commuter. The xmax has real sizes wheels and brakes and suspension as compared to the nmax, it is heavier so doesn, t act like a teacup in a storm like the ybr and the nmax, it is higher and wider than the fore mentioned bikes, im sort of tip toe on the bike but by moving forward on the seat in the stationary periods e. G. At traffic lights gives you better footing you dont have to be 6 foot like other reviews state. 13 litre fuel tank like bigger bikes solid construction excellent comfort and road handling, it doesn, t get better than this for 125cc commuting. The 250cc and 400cc are the same chassis, s other than they have twin discs. Maintainance is simple due to the under seat storage compartment which will hold 2 helmets detaching from the bike allowing full acessability for maintainance. I had big service bills with the nmax due to acessability according to the main dealers, this was true. I did 14000 trouble free miles on the nmax in all weathers and got the gut feeling that i will do this and more on the xmax. Big bike comfort and handling 125cc economy. Hi-tec digital gauges abs brakes which havn, t come in to play yet, getting the nod off the fair weather bikers, perhaps they think its a bike who knows but again it doesn, t get better than this, happy commuting dudes!
Excellent review mate. So spot on with the cagers looking at Vainbook. The times I have tooted, because I couldn't get up front, vain cagers not pulling away when the lights change. I have a 300cc Xmax 2019, upgraded from my 2012 250cc which was 'grabbed' (sold) within 2 days on the spot. So I was bikeless for 3 weeks till my new one was ready for pick up. I ran it in within 2 weeks doing 200 mile return trip up the A12. I was amazed doing 55mph that I reached 106.04 mpg. That I'll never forget. Love this new 'Blue Engine' Xmax,it's acceleration is amazing and the comfort too. Glad I choose the Xmax 'luxury motorbike' as yes they are motorbike's, 'scooter' is just a term like 'lowriders' or 'racers' 'tourers'
I go camping loaded up with everything I need, tent, airbed, 4 pillows, all the things I need for cooking and even a wind break. People are amazed when they see everything they say 'you carried all that?' Xmax, excellent for shopping and camping with all that it can carry.
I have the largest topbox so can carry 4 helmets or anything else, love it.
Stay safe, ride safe fellow bikers.

Comfortable Easy & Freedom.
I answered to a question, do you raccomand to a friend? My answer is no. Not because the scooter is not worht,
but the yamaha UK costumer service is just awful. And it is a shame to say that . But that's how it is. I will suggest you to buy one, but a first issue will be a nightmare.
But this scooter give me the freedom and independence every one need. Because the public transport is crub.

Product Of Intelligent Design.
I'm a first time rider, just passed my CBT. Completed my test on a 100cc 4stroke Piagio, it had throttle lag, lack of graduation in the throttle and a rear drum brake that may have well not been there, not to mention unclear dials you couldn't read without ignoring the road ahead.
I had already taken a leap of faith pre-CBT with Yamaha and purchased an XMAX 125 based on many favorable reviews with emphasis on reliability and build quality. I had some concerns in my own ability after the CBT, the Yamaha figures showed that the machine was nearly twice the weight and size of the Piagio with far greater hp and torque figures. On top of all this was the fact that the Yamaha cost £4000 all of which made me a little nervous, however...
Getting on the bike for the first time you can feel the extra weight, that feeling lasted for about 3 minutes before I felt at total ease with it. This bike does nothing by surprise, the engineering is seriously well sorted. Throttle progression, brakes, suspension, balance, this bike fills you with confidence from the moment you start riding leaving you fully able to concentrate on the road.
Wheels, tires, suspension - My daily commute is 16 miles and consists of smooth fast roads, a 500ft hill a 1-3 incline and pot holed city roads. I work nights so I have a clear run going in at night when I can open the bike up and have to deal with the usual rush-hour commute on the way home. There is not a situation I have come across that this bike cannot handle with ease.
Storage - I can fit a 7KG 2m chain lock, a 15.3" full sized laptop in its laptop bag, towel, over trousers, x2 large bottles of diet coke, a regular sized food container and a jumbo sized bag of crisps (Don't judge me on my diet, I'm a big guy and I work out). All that without using the ample storage in the lockable glove box, in my opinion, that's a lot of storage!
Power/torque - to start with, the bike on a full tank weighs 172KG approx, I weight 107KG approx (17st 1 lb), chain and luggage for me is 14KG approx so we are looking at 291KG so well over a 1/4 tonne. This bike doesn't even blink at accelerating this weight up a 1 in 3 incline, I must admit this was probably THE most surprising aspect of the engine for me, serious torque as and when required.
Throttle/brakes - Very smooth progressive throttle, excellent brakes, especially when you take in to account the weight I carry, the brakes will give me as much or as little as I want at any time, seriously impressed.
Riding position - The 'Pièce de résistance'of the bike, incredibly comfortable (I'm 6ft) dominant position, my eye-line is usually above the roof of the car in front, the dials are large, clear, well positioned and very well illuminated at night (as well as really quite attractive when lit up if that makes much difference to you). All in all very comfortable for long or short journeys.
Economy - Let's start with the price £4000. Buy on Yamaha finance deal 5.9% over 3 years or 6.9% over 4 years, I went for 4 years £92/month. Insurance, 0%-no claims, CBT licence, parked on the road £230/year fully comprehensive £24/month, fuel WOW!!!! I'm filling it with premium unleaded and getting 115mpg fresh out of the box, >£20/month fuel. So I spend >£136/month on travel, I spent £80/month on public transport before and the prices are steadily rising, so I'm paying £56.00 more a month than before, HOWEVER, I'm saving 15 hours/week in travel time which is invaluable as a family man, I have collateral in the bike when I come to sell it and I don't have to cram myself on the bus or tube with Mr halitosis, or little Miss "SO I TOLD HER ANYWAY TO GO **** ERSELF INNIT!! YOU KNOW WOT I'M SAYIN' BRUV INNIT" TRUE-SAY!!!"... Priceless.
Aesthetics - I like it and so do most people I meet, If you don't like the looks try the Honda S-Wing 125, I've a friend who owns one and she loves it also being Honda you'll get as good a quality bike as the Yamaha with near identical statistics.
Downside - My daughter loves it, she's 5ft 1", no chance. If you've got a 32" or longer inside leg the bike is fine, however for those who are shorter a change in seat will be necessary and I do not know how this would affect the ride comfort.
Summation - If your tall enough, buy one, you won't regret it.
FIRST FAULT!!!! 7463 miles, tail light bulb went!!! Aaarrrggghhh!! A whole £2.50 to replace and 4 minutes with a cross-head screwdriver.

This is a great review, and is spot on.
I have a similar commute and would agree with the ride, quality and power.
It IS a big bike and compared to many scooters its huge. And its tall. Im 5'10" and it fits me fine but any shorter and I think it would be a lop-sided struggle with a foot down resting.
I purchased from Lamba Motors in Cheam and they have been great, no customer service issues at all. BOught it 2nd hand (1 year old) for £2.5k. Bargain.

OK First service 700 miles £100 no issues. Current mileage 1700 no issues to report, faultless. One observation, the scooter really responds to the fuel you put in it, the best I've found by some margin is Tesco's Premium Momemtum99, the difference in power gain is felt instantly, price/mile is about the same +/- negligible but for the power gain it's well worth it. The Yamaha is still by far the best purchase I've made in a long while, it continues to pay for itself. I've read some horror stories about Yamaha customer service when the bike does go wrong, it it ever does I'll be sure to post my findings, so far all I've had is very good customer service from West London Yamaha in Shepard's Bush, I'd definitely recommend them.
Hi there
Excellent review. I currently own a Sym Jet 4 125cc and is brilliant although am looking to get something that will hold its value and get better mpg etc. Would you recommend this model then as I do approx the same amount of commuting a day and also 6ft 4in tall (but not well built). When you said Insurance 0% - no claims - what do you mean? Is the insurance really cheap?
Cheers

Xmax 2011
Hey guys,
I am extremely pleased with my xmax, comfortable, lots of storage, very good balance, high top speed, i got 74 mph in a straight line, not down hill or wind behind me. went on the m25 with the girlfriend and was doing 75 mph at a steady 8500 rpm so not even in the red zone. full tank (11.8 litres) will do 250 miles without stretching, the reserve light comes on after 175 miles, so will do 75 miles extra on reserve. I am going on a road trip, 2500 miles of motorway with my dad, so will be really testing the scooter.
Hi there, can you comment a little more on the comfort please. I've read comments on this site about the XMax 250 suspension being very harsh! Is that true of the 125?

I Have Just Ordered My 125 Xmax (black) For Delive
I have just ordered my 125 Xmax (black) for delivery 01 March 2011, and after test riding a similar model, I must say an all round great scooter, and for £ 3100 0% finance over two years, how can you even not think to buy this? I am very please by the "dashboard" speedo and rev meter,a nd alos a very informative screen with fuel guage and clock built in. I am about 16stone in weight, and this little number moves in teh traffic just as good as my Yamah Fazer 600. OBVIOUSLY a vast difference in bikes, but in london traffic decent 125cc is better, and light on fuel!

I Have Owned Over My Life A Number Of Motorcycles
I have owned over my life a number of motorcycles ,small to large, 750 honda.ten years have passed since then and was looking for something practical ,reliable well made and clean.the yamaha xmas 125 is a far cry from doing 0 to 60 mph in 2.8seconds. For a 125 it runs very well and surprised by its speed, cornering and general handling. All the commands are well located and of course the trunk is large and takes two helmets, great feature if you dont want to carry the helmet around. Its styling is also pleasant to the eye.the finishings are well done and dont get this feeling that its all cheap plastic ratling as you go.Of all the scooters i researched this by far was a better design and finished product. My two beef, one is the price alittle high but one could argue that you are paying for a better scooter. the other is in the dash board locking system ,the lock position is next to the position of leaving all the lights

This Is Degfinitely A Good Looking Scooter, No Dou
This is degfinitely a good looking scooter, no doubt.
The good: looks, quality, under seat storage, immobiliser, cheap tax and mpg (I've monitored it like a hawk and am getting ~105 mpg without particularly trying!)
The bad: the seat is a little high (I'm 5' 8" and can't put my feet flat on the floor!), performance (I was expecting faster, although my last bike was a 600cc, so that might be a little unfair), only 3500 miles between services.

Excellent Scooter For Commuting. Very Comfortable
Excellent scooter for commuting. Very comfortable seat and riding position. It has lots of space under the seat and good wind protection for the face and hands. Good acceleration and a maximum speed of 75mph with the wind behind you. It feels very well built and corners well for a scooter.
If purchasing one second hand make sure it has the red master key.
Thnx cheers paL
I found this review very helpful because of the clear concise language and the warning about the red master key.
Q&A
My 2009 xmax 125 hates hot weather....either won't start or after riding will cut out @ low revs..then won't start at all..temp reading 30%....leave in shade for an hour starts first time....ok throughout winter....would be very gratefully if you have a solution ?
