Really Disappointed With The New Flavour

I have loved Coleman’s English mustard since I was a child, but a couple of months ago I thought there must have been a contaminated batch as it had a really strange flavour (fennel?). The next jar was fine, but I now realise that must have been from an older batch, as the next one I bought tasted awful. It actually spoils the taste of the food. I was relieved to see from these reviews that I’m not the only person who is really disappointed by this change of flavour. It is enough to put me off buying something that I have always enjoyed. As a child, I would ask for ham and mustard sandwiches without the ham(!) but sadly now it will be ham without the mustard, unless the old flavour returns. I was looking for a label to say ‘new recipe’ but there was nothing. ‘Vegan’ is now added to the label but that appeared prior to the change in taste.

Very Bad

I remember eating English mustard as a kid with my English grandparents on bacon and eggs and have loved it ever since. Decided to buy some online for a bit of nostalgia. But after a few brekkies realised it was nothing like original. Going back to the Aussie version of English mustard which does go up your nose and make your eyes water!

Recipe Change Fail

So sad. As a professional chef I am dismayed at the change of recipe. There is now a foul chemical taste and steak night will never be the same again. Whatever they have done they need to undo it asap

I Am In Total Agreement With Most Of The Reviews H

I am in total agreement with most of the reviews here.

Colemans's Mustard used to be the standard against which others were judged. Now it is a shadow of it's former self. Watery and weak and a bit of a joke. A couple of steaks, and a pork pie, and the jar is empty.

It has also aquired a slightly soapy after taste.

This is a travesty.

Unilever please take note: I will not be buying Coleman's again.

What Gave They Done Absolutely Ruined It

Ruined it changing the recipe. Was the only mustard I would have and now it’s just not worth having. In fact I threw a new jar away after opening and trying it. Shan’t be buying any more.

Tasteless Dribble

It’s a joke calling this classic British Coleman’s Mustard by its original name as it’s nothing like the old classic. Now you can pour from the jar it’s that liquid, the former was so much thicker & needed a thin spread. NOW you need a monstrously thick layer & still the taste isn’t there but dribbles from the sandwich. This clearly is about cost cutting but you have lost our custom!!!

Suggest you go back to the original recipe & reduce the jar size be honest about improving your profit margin but keep customers. You didn’t even have the decency to say on the product “New Recipe” I’m sure this should have been a requirement!! It would at least tell the consumer , poor show. Equally we all know about food inflation & everything is going up, in my opinion you should have just increased the price & not play around with the original recipe loosening faithful customers

Corporate Clean-out :-(

The corporates have got their greedy little paws on this British classic.

The recipe change is simply a way to increase revenue as the new weak, sweet dribbly version now needs 5 times more to come close to the the same taste. Thereby selling more jars where the old classic strong one lasted ages.

Unfortunately they discounted the fact the loyal fans would not accept this lame taste change and will not play along. Good luck with this profit driven gamble.
