Sick To Death Of This Awful Company!
So sick of dealing with Scottish Hydro which is part of SSE over a faulty meter, something that has been going on for many months now. They sent me a gas bill of over £400 for a 3 month period for a second home that was not being used due to lockdown. The faulty meter kept on running very fast even when the gas was actually turned off! I asked them many times to replace the obviously faulty meter but they said they wouldn't send anyone out to do this yet they will send someone out to change a normal meter to a smart meter!!! I have now threatened to take them to the energy ombudsmen and I honestly feel that this is what I will actually have to do as they do not seem to want to fix this once and for all!. Scottish Hydro/SSE don't seem to have a clue about how to deal with problems at all! They don't even deserve one star for the hassle they have put me through! They actually deserve to be sued for the effect of what all this has done to my mental health!

Having been recommended their v3 tariff last year and recommended their v9 tariff this year I find myself facing a 25% increase.
After four emails to the company requesting justification for this they avoid answering my question with all replies just quoting unit prices ,as if I'm stupid. They say they have tried to phone me many times but they've never left a message!!! Ombudsman and MSP next stop. Terrible people.

After over 16 years of dealing with this company & spending over £65000 I have been treated & spoken too like a child being told off by the headmistress,I was left shaken & disgusted that my customer loyalty had been repaid in such a manner they will rip u off & should be avoided @ all costs .My last bill which was £1735 came as a shock ,I had to again give them my meter reading as I was aware that as usual we had not had our "Annual " meter reading ! I spoke to a lady who was actually very helpful & kind I agreed to pay as much of the bill as I could as soon as I could get a large lump sum £1000 Today I was subjected to a gastapo type woman who phoned my work & literally berated me I explained I had an arrangement in place & was doing my level best she said my bill should be settled within 2 weeks of receiving my bill again I explained I had made an arrangement completely ignoring me she continued berating me ! I feel quite alarmed that she spoke to anyone like that it was terrible ,first time in 16 years I had asked for time to pay so instead of 2 weeks it was going to be nearer 6 I have been sick all day at her response to me truly dreadful God help anyone who really cannot manage to pay anything at all !! Take your money ridiculous tariffs dreadful service have to even read my own meter ,what are we paying through the nose for ?Avoid this company at all costs dismal non existent service rude obnoxious staff & forget any deals that's laughable I am in the process of changing supplier got a fantastic deal almost 1/2 what I am currently paying AvoidAvoidAvoid SSE !!!!!!

Left 91 Year Old Pensioner Without A Phone For A Fortnight
My mother-in-law (a widowed 91 year old pensioner), used to be with Scottish Hydro Electric for phone, gas and electric. After she moved to an all-electric house, as everyone in the block of flats were with Scottish Power, and Scottish Power was already the provider in her new house, she changed to Scottish Power, but kept the phone package with Scottish Hydro Electric.
Her phone keeps cutting out. A technician (I use the term loosely) arrived and after half an hour, said there was no problem. Phone still doesn't work and Scottish Hydro electric are unwilling to repair fault. Phone either cuts out during a call or calls don't go through. It doesn't matter if someone is phoning from a landline, mobile, Skype out or a Voip service - the phone doesn't work. A number of house phones have been tried, so it's obviously a fault in the line.
In addition, they didn't arrive when stated, and came two hours earlier for the next visit. Their web-page says they respond to an email with 24 hours if it's a working day. They took nearly a week to answer my email, and only then after someone else phoned them to report the fault, saying that I hadn't received a response.
Stay clear of this pathetic, unhelpful company.

I don't know where some of the reviewers before me have been calling but I have always found this company to be great.
The people you deal with on the phone are by far the best of any call centre staff I have ever spoken to.
I live on a remote island and if we ever get a power cut there is someone here within an hour. The call centre folk always ask if you will manage and if you need extra help. They even say they will call back to update you and they really do it.

I had the batteries of the pre-payment meter changed by their technician yesterday Thursday 4th December 2014. I'm am now seeing £3 worth of gas for a ten £10 top up.I'm paying for the batteries of the stuff. Must switch supplier, but will get in touch with CAS service to take part in their data gathering to campaign against this supplier taking the mickey from their customers as they do. This pre-payment meters are a rip-off, they can set it up as they please, and get as much they want from the customers without them knowing, it makes no difference wether the customer is really ethical about the way they consume Gas or Electricity, budgets carefully, and has a set sum to cover the gas and Electricity. regardless of health, gas will have to go off at the mains once this lot of £3 is finiish. Now I've got to rate the Stuff! Just pure ghastly, greedy... horrible company.

Terrible Customer Service
I was a customer for years. They overcharge and deny it. The customer service went downhill more and more over the years. I finally left and am now with EDF who treat customers with much more respect and charge a lot less, they also let you know of cheaper companies!! Scottish Hydro is a rubbish energy supplier and I'll never return. The agents are trained to speak as though they are always right and the customer is wrong - bad move!

I am currently waiting on the phone just to give a meter reading. I lost my account number so had to go through that awfull automatic answer machine questions. It's been over 25 minutes wait now and still going. If the wait wasnt bad enough i have to listen to these songs arrgh. Do call backs or hire more staff.

Unable To Speak With Anyone ...
Had various bad experiences with this company over the years, culminating in a desire, yet apparent inability to close my account.
Been calling for the past few evenings with no success. Twice i've appeared to connect, only to hear dead air instead of a customer service agent. The other occasions i've hung up after 20 odd minutes without pick-up.
Contacting Scottish Hydro is proving to be a prolonged, soul-sucking, expensive experience. Staff have my sympathies, as clearly they're overwhelmed. The company however is a disgrace and would do well to invest some of their huge profits in expanding their call centre(s).
