Avoid Like The Plague

Appauling claims handling. 12 months on and they do not seem to know what is happening, nor do they seem to care. Meanwhile I am being threatened with huge bill and potential CCJ due to their inaction!

Never going back to these clowns.

Corrupt & Shambolic

Shocking. Lazy. Incompetent. I was rammed from behind by a maniac overtaking me on a narrow country road at night before a 90-degree bend. The 3rd party apologised & admitted responsibility at the time. He'd previously written off another car in a similar way. And yet Direct Line would not fight my corner. They held me responsible, & were lethargic & patronising in their response. I'd previously not had an insurance claim entered against me in 32 years of driving. I strongly advise everyone to avoid this wretched company. Their motor policies might be cheap, but there's a reason for this. They will abandon & betray their customers at the slightest opportunity. And you can forget any notion of accountability.

Abysmal Customer Service

Staff seem intend on ripping you off, and give contradictory answers to any queries about my quotes online. I think conning unemployed customers but not the employed or students (I am a student) by making the unemployed pay approximately £500 more is criminal and disgusting practice! It's prejudice and a form of discrimination! Untrustworthy and don't believe the fake five star reviews, most companies post them themselves. I don't believe they would be there to help if I had tried submitting a claim. Like with most car insurance companies, they just want to cash in on your money!

Terrible Car Insurance Claim Experience

A lorry went into the side of my car at a roundabout. Reported to the police. Clearly a non fault claim. However because the lorry was registered in Spain Direct Line say that I may not recover the £300 excess. I get the opinion they will not try very hard. The car repairer I have been referred to say the claim has gone through as 50:50. This is appalling by Direct Line as will affect future non claims. In addition their customer service is terrible, they just don't care. AVOID.

Far From Impressed

My catalytic converter was stolen. I drove to my garage and had a repair done immediately because I needed my car, but it was at great expense because of the amount of damage done to the exhaust and sensors. Once I got a crime number from the police I made an insurance claim with Direct Line. There is no way of doing this online, it has to be done on the phone. Following this I received an email that says, "Thank you for providing your email address. We know having an incident can be a difficult time so we want to reassure you that we are with you every step of the way. Where appropriate, we will be sending you email updates on the progress of your claim."

Two weeks later, I phoned Direct Line, what's happening?

We're waiting to receive your invoice for the repair, I was told.

My response was that if I had been asked for it I would have sent it long ago.

Two weeks later, I phoned Direct Line, what's happening?

We're waiting for one of our engineers to authorise the payment; this will be done within the next 48 hours.

Two weeks later, I phoned Direct Line, what's happening?

The payment has been authorised and will be sent to you today; it can take 7 to 10 days to reach you.

At the time of writing this I'm waiting for the payment, but I'm not holding my breath and I won't be at all surprised if I have to chase them for it.

Absolutely appalled at direct line my car insurance has went from £21 to £48 a month in a year that's an increase of double ! I have driven for 32 years with no claims how can this be justified ? Told by sales assistant because of where I live !!! Absolute bandits will not be using this company again and will be taking this further i.e..to newspapers I'm actually disgusted have been a customer for years including having house insurance with these bandits !!!

Messing A Pensioner Around

Writing this for my mum as she doesn't have internet. She has been total messed around by #Directlinemotorinsurance and their *ahem*"preferred supplier" #Nationwiderepairs They have made her wait weeks before starting work in her repairs saying they needed parts (so why have it sat waiting in a garage when she could have been using it?)

They took ages to get her a courtesy car and keep changing estimation dates of when her car will be ready. This has made my mum very anxious. She complains then got a letter saying they'd closed the complaint. I queried this and asked if the complaint could remain open until she got her car back and was satisfied all was ok. Their *ahem* Customer relations team said no, of she didn't like it she could write to Ombudsman. So this is the kind of company you are dealing with folks.

Vote with your cash.

Easy Car Insurance!

I obtained an online quote from direct line due to having an outstanding non fault claim with my previous insurer. I was getting quotes for double the amount I got quoted by direct line and my current insurer wanted £100 more than last year due to the unrecovered claim outstanding!

I got my quote online, used the chat to an advisor to clarify my claim had been declared correctly and then called to make the purchase.

I was pleased to have my call immediately answered by a UK call centre and the service was second to none making the purchase easy.

My no claims discount had to be obtained from my previous insurer but once I had it I uploaded it to the online portal and everything was confirmed quickly with minimum hassle.

Overseas Call Centre Doubles Call Time After Accident

Had an accident last week and called Diretc Line to let them know only to find an overseas call centre taking my call, as a result the call (at the EDGE OF A MOTORWAY) took twice as long to complete

I complained that Direct Line (who used to advertise local call centres) have sent jobs overseas to people who do not understand U.K. regional accents.

They called to 'deal with my complaint' and the complaint handler was from India and I had to explain that the original call handler did not know the difference between a car and a van (she referred to my VAN as a CAR 9 times and I corrected her each time- I eventually asked her to stop calling my van a car as it is not a car)

The call (at the side of the M8 in the centre of Glasgow) took over 15 minutes when it could have been handled in about half that

The call handler then called me back later whilst driving and was quite happy to talk even though I was driving (she did not ask if it was safe to talk)

I have 3 policies with Direct Line and will cancel them all upon renewal as I prefer not to do business with companies that sack United Kingdom based workers to employ overseas workers.

Q&A

needreliablecarinsurance

I'm looking for a car insurance company to use and am seeing terrible reviews for all I look at. I don't know what to do. Can anyone suggest a good insurance company that will pay out if needed to in the event of an accident or theft etc? Thank you
