Bought This Dvd Player About 20 Months Ago, And It
Bought this DVD player about 20 months ago, and it worked fine. Now 20 months on, the remote doesn't work and I have to keep turning it on and off sometimes, as the players firmware seems to lock up. Also the scart socket has a loose connection. Very dissapointed! I'll stick to well known brands next time, this DVD player was a waste of money!

What A Cracking Player, It Has Played Vcd Svcd Xvc
What a cracking player, it has played VCD SVCD XVCD and XSVCD on any media I have thrown at it, which includes Datasafe silver and blue, vivastar, vertabim, packard bell and FWS. I have a DVD R which also plays flawlessly.
It's multiregion out of the box and can play NTSC or PAL no problem whatsoever, currently £99 at special reserve. I used to have a Smamsung 709 and recently took back a Scneider 857. This Kirro kicks butt.
One slight flaw as when you open the disc tray you do get a ping noise and immediately proceed to the microwave only to find that you didn't put anything in it, but its a small price to pay for such a great machine, also it's tiny in comparison to regular dvd players.

This Kiiro 838d Is A Fantastic Dvd Player And Is B
This Kiiro 838d is a fantastic DVD player and is better than machines costing 3 times the price. It is multiregion AND you can copy DVD's without any fuss. Playback is great, without ANY glitches or problems. It has masses of features that allow FF and RW and slow-mo etc etc etc. It plays everything! The person that wrote the negative comments must have had a 1-off bad machine!! BUY IT.
Agree with your comments apart from the Video Friendly, mine ain't. Any suggestions.

The Kiiro 838d Is A Small Dvd Player (320x75x277mm
The Kiiro 838d is a small DVD player (320x75x277mm) yet is able to play everything that is thrown at it, it is multi-region and plays RCE disks right out of the box, no hack is required, what's more it's VCR friendly as well!. It also has on board dolby digital and DTS decoders, so all you need to do to complete your home cinema system is add a multi channel amp + speakers.
This player appears to be from the same stable as the Dansai machines but with many improvements. When you first use this player you notice that the disk tray does not fully extend from the front panel, this is because it in-fact contains a modified DVD-ROM drive mounted behind the front. On the right hand side is the main circuit board with the power supply board mounted vertically on the left avoiding possible interference present on some players.
The rear panel contains one SCART socket (RGB capable), an S-Video connector, an RCA video out, 6 phono audio connectors (for decoded AC3/DTS out), 1 RCA digital audio out and a digital optical output. Once the digital audio out is enabled the analogue outputs are disabled, in the same way once RGB out is selected the composite and S-Video outputs are disabled.
The front panel contains more than most despite its small size. Unusually, it has enough controls to allow operation without the remote! It also has 2 microphone inputs for the karaoke functions. This display is blue and shows the usual functions.
The picture output is sharp and well defined and not far removed from many more up-market players, although it is best to use the RGB out as the composite does suffer from a fair amount of chroma patterning. It is able to output both PAL and NTSC for any disc, the conversion to PAL is full not just PAL 60, so you could use it to back up your region one disks to tape!.
The audio out does suffer from a small amount of lip sink error with some disks and the analogue is fairly quiet (as is common). However there are numerous adjustment due to the on-board decoders.
Two annoying points are firstly the ping the machine makes whenever a disk is ejected! A DVD logo is also permanently displayed whenever in STOP mode and when playing CD`s or MP3 disks. Mechanically this is not the quietest of machines but isn`t too obtrusive.
In conclusion I must say this is a very decent player which has no problems with disks that other players cough at, and at this price it's a bargain. I certainly recommend it.

From Amazon (£99.99 reduced from £129.99)
I have just purchased a dvd burner (SONY DRU-500a) and cannot find a brand of dvd-r or dvd-rw that plays correctly on the kiiro 838d without skipping. I have tried Bulpaq Orange 4x dvd-r, Memorex 1x dvd-rw and datawrite green 2x dvd-rw. Can anyone help?
My information is the the player will play DVD-R and DVD-RW disks, but DVD+R & DVD+RW are uncertain.
I have tested with a DVD+RW disk which would not play.
I like the review, you prepared your asessment thoroughly
before submission. I have had a Pioneer 345, 2 Yelo,
2 dansai 852's and now 2 Kiiro 838's.
Like yourself I like the Kiiro 838 a lot.
What I'd like to know is how does this machine cope
with DVDR movies etc? I heard a rumour from a friend
of mine that it can't play them at all.
Do You have any idea if movies etc recorded on
standard stand alone dvd recorders ie Panasonic or
Pioneer etc can be played back on The Kiiro 838?
Good review with all the sort of info you need. Helped make up my mind to buy one and so far you are right i give it 10/10 as well.
A well written review with just the sort of info you need. Made a change from reading a single negative comment.

This Kiiro 838d Dvd Player Is A Great Looker But I
This Kiiro 838d DVD player is a great looker but is let down by the play back. I bought 2 dvds to start my collection - not one can be viewed longer than 1 hr without faults. .. shame, tried various others with the same problem.
I have just Emailed the company that supplied it, Firebox.com, let's see how long it takes for a replacement.
Well I did the first review. Now the unit has been replaced.
I contacted Firebox who I purchased the product from, Needless to say the customer support for a unit that was 2 days old was poor, all they wanted was to pass me off with another phone number to call but thats another story (advice - see if the maker will sell direct). The unit arrived as prommised by Kiiro on the the day they prommised. Well what can I say that hasn't been said in the other good reviews of this product, apart from it does exactly what is says on the box. I put the unit through a Panasonic Receiver (SA-HE9 DTS +5.1). The sound quality is fantastic although you have to have the volume up quite high to get the effects, but this coud be down to the dvd. It has played everything that I have put in without problem even some copies that won't even play on some more expensive players. My only real gripe is that the manual is very sparce and lacks information about some of the settings etc.
Another good point is that the extended warranty is good value as well an extra 2 year for £25. Some might say paying a warranty on a product that is not that expensive is false ecommony, but there you go.

What Can I Say About The Kiiro 838d Dvd Player? Us
What can i say about the Kiiro 838d DVD player? Usually i would always purchase a brand name as that's the usual preconception in order to get quality. How wrong i was. This little stunner, kiiro 838d does everything i could ever ask of it. plays my region 1 discs as well as some of my copied dvdr and rw discs. wicked playback on cds as well. it looks the nuts as well. midi sized unit, looks great next to my cyrus midi hi-fi seperates. great buy overall.

I Bought The Kiiro 838d On The Basis Of The Qualit
I bought the Kiiro 838d on the basis of the quality of the Yelo 800. My g/f dad has the yelo and was i well impressed. Amazon were selling the Kiiro for £129.99 so bought i it.
After two week's the drawer got stuck inside. Rang kiiro and they sent me another one the next day. This one seem's to be fine but i still feel a bit funny about it.
Picture quality and sound wise it's great, but quality control at Kiiro could be better.
Overall though i would recommend it!

Well I Tried A Kiiro 838d Dvd Player Again. Mmmm,
Well I tried a Kiiro 838d DVD player again. mmmm, likes vcd but still pixely.
Any way, to tell it as i see it and from the list of emails you will get it swapped but there is a long, long wait [still waiting for kiiro]. It may not be kiiro uk's fault but they should keep some stock back for 24hr exchange as other brands do.
the helpline gives interesting ideas:
it's damp
helpline says it needs resetting after every play?
quality of your dvds?
all 16?
you did not set it up right
=mmm been building pc since 1989
in fact most of these cheaper dvds are actually a pc_dvd rom drive and an mpeg card in a big box.
Many reverse engineering sites on net show this.
