Horrible Ignorance
We had a a very bad experience with the national breakdown cover, when our car broke down in Germany. We had to ring them 4 times, nobody took a time to ring us back to say what we could expect, when someone will come out, just kept saying they are waiting to estimate the time for the recovery, only when we rung them. We lost the hotel room was booked, and had to book another for the night.We had to pay a local garage to have a look and try to fix the problem.We have our son with us as well, who's got anxious and getting panicking after hours of waiting.
I found it disgusting that nobody contacted us the full day ,not a single message.

Wouldn’t ever work with these muppets, they deliberately thought i’d be funny to mess with me. I suffer from mental health issues & this just shows their true character.

After leaving multiple negative reviews, the response I received via review comment was “as far as I know, you didn’t get the job”
I don’t want the job, I just don’t want these muppets to deal with anyone in the same manner. National breakdown has to be the biggest two bit operation i’ve ever seen in my life. Comer merda.

I had rather unpleasant experience with service they provided. On Sunday morning my car ceased to start. Unfortunately I didn't have breakdown cover. I was trying to contact few companies (AA and RAC) but their lines were constantly busy. National Breakdown responded. After paying 160 pounds fee as a non member they sent assistant. He arrived within stated time and checked my car. As I was expecting starter motor broke down. The assistant decided to use hammer and the screwdriver to get it started. After few unsuccessful bashes he gave up and advised me to find local garage and arrange towing. Trusting his judgement and knowledge I booked a hotel as I was 3 hours away from home. However I decided to give another call to The AA. This time I managed to speak to them and they sent their agent. What a completely different experience it was. In less than 20 minutes after his arrival my car was up and running again and I was able to make my journey back home.
Now I know why their phone lines are so much busier...
Given how little was done to help me in that stressful situation I asked for a full refund hoping for partial at least but this was of course politely denied

stay clear phones them as broke down they said we cant come out on the roads conntact the police to close lane not even on a lane or dangross then after a few words they askd for money to come out even tho a member then they said we still cant come out you in a van i was in a little connect so left me to sort it myself

Very Misleading Recovery Terms Be Aware
Very simply put if you breakdown out of hours as one of our engineers did and needed recovery they will not recover you home in the first instance. They told us that our engineer should stay in a local hotel (where would that be then?) overnight and they would pay £50 for the room (where can you get rooms for £50 thee days? Then they said in the morning they have 24 hours to try to find a local garage who could repair it. If succesful you would have to wait until they repaired it. This could be up to 48 hours time. If after 24 hours of trying they cant find a garage to repair it then they will recover you. The RAC and AA will recover you straight home if your car cannot be repaired at the roadside. That is what you may extra for.
We needed our van to be recovered that night to our local garage that does all our fleet servicing so they could repair it. Our engineer would get a taxi from there home.
Thats the kind of service companies need to get back to business, we dont have 3 days to wait for repairs.
National Breakdown did offer to recover it direct that night and we paid £270 for the priveledge.
In a nutshell if you brakdown at night you wont be getting home that night. They said they would recover at 10pm then changed it 3 times to 1.20am

What a lovely change to have a company give you a phone call regarding your inquiry.
I was becoming very frustrated with the web chat experiences. With one of the larger companies I gave my personal details 5 times and after waiting over an hour for a quote I hung up.
As I'm not a UK resident, I was having difficulty finding a company that would cover my travels in the EU for 12 months.
She was just amazing, she asked me all the right questions for me to obtain a breakdown cover.
I would highly recommend the National Breakdown cover, either for the UK or Europe.
You can't beat the personal touch, no matter how big your company is. Not all questions can be answered via an automated web chat.

Won't Bring Home
I broke down in france on day one of my 14 day holiday. I was told to sort my own tow off the motorway. National Breakdown took 8 days to find a garage, this garage then quotes 5k for gearbox change when only clutch had gone. Couldnt repair for three weeks so then expected a repatriation cover as policy stated. Unknow to me, they have a repatriation calculation and refused to get the vehicle and my belongings home (their own bised figures, grossly wrong). Persons only! A repatriation loop hole in t and Cs that left us stranded. I had to ship home using my own agents, they didn't even help with this!!!!
They never called with updates, I called daily and waited for 30min a time on hold.
They are an immoral company. Avoid. Essentially if you car is anywhere near the 6k valuation, they won't bring you home!!!!!

Would Not Come Out For A Potentially Dangerous Problem With
I could not open the bonnet of my car while on a long 100 mile journey in January 2023.I had run out of screen wash and I wanted to top up the reservoir in the engine compartment from a bottle which I carry in the boot of my car.I phoned up Nationalbreakdown for assistance. I was told that not being able to open your car bonnet at the roadside was not covered and I would have to drive to a local garage to get the bonnet opened !! I was in a rural area with no garages near.I had a similar problem on a car some years ago and the AA patrol came out and sorted the problem out. National breakdown is a joke and they get people into parting with their hard earn't money and do not provide roadside assistance.You have been warned do not give them a penny !!

Avoid At All Costs! Never Use This Company, Shockingly Bad,
I took out European breakdown cover with National Breakdown, and upon breaking down in France on 27th July, my policy was deemed invalid on a nonsensical technicality. I’ve since provided the information required to get my policy validated, however they have refused it, without any logical explanation.
With my cover being deemed invalid, I was forced to pay National Breakdown £1200 on the spot for roadside assistance. I felt I had no choice, & was assured that all remaining money not spent towing my vehicle would be refunded to me.
Very long story short, it is now 15th September & my vehicle is still stranded in France without having been fixed. I was forced to return to the UK, without my vehicle or any updates, & having missed my original ferry crossing home. I am currently around £2000 out of pocket and counting, and have spent the past two weeks trying to get through to customer services. When I give my case details, I’m told time and again that no one is able to talk to me and am placed on endless hold, or cut off, like I have been blacklisted. I am a policy holder and a paying customer who feels completely extorted.
18 days post-breakdown I still have no idea where my car is, if it is safe, or when I will be able to repatriate it. I rely on my car for work, so am losing considerable earnings. I also have no idea where my £1200 is, and have to fund travel back to France to repatriate my car, all of which should have been covered under my policy. I am now forced to spend all my time and energy taking legal action. I don’t have the words for how appallingly I have been (and continue to be) treated by this company.

Don't Cover Anything!!!!
Run away from them!
First of all they don't even make difference between a wheel, a tyre and a rim!!!! Van break down with a cut tyre and they let us down saying we are not cover to change a tyre. Really? A person I dealt with had no idea what she was taking about, asking for a manager to explain again the situation I couldn't get one as they are very busy!
THE MANAGER called me 30 min later to explain me what the policy stated.
In the end we manage ourselves to solve the problem, NO THANK YOU National Shbreak down....
NEVER want to hear them again!
