Xmas Day Lunch 25 December 2010 - Hyperion Restaur
Xmas day lunch 25 December 2010 - Hyperion restaurant at Berystede Hotel Ascot
Four of us booked for the £85 per head Xmas lunch so including a bottle of wine and 2 cokes this came to £400.
What we liked: a) walking distance from home, b) coats efficiently checked in, c) starter and one mince pie and d) bill quickly presented
What we did not like: e) food ordering was not really personal and I was not even asked how I would like my beef cooked, d)the wine was initially poured but thereafter I had to do this myself - no one offered, e)almost at the end of the main course we were offered cranberry sauce for the turkey, no offers of mustard or horseradish,f) the souffle was far too fishy,g)my beef was actually, by luck, pink as I like it but unfortunately I would guess that this had been pre-cooked and then reheated giving a hard outer shell,g) the main course was served with the vegetables already on the plate h)from the above you can see that the staff need more training even though they tried to be pleasant.
I know it was Christmas Day and staff have to be trained but at £100 per person it is not unreasonable to expect better. So we will not be doing this again.
Over many years we have found the Berystede restaurants to have been a good quality but never again I'm afraid. We were so disappointed.
