The best place I have ever eaten. Food prices ok and staff very good. The two main chefs are brilliant and very good cooks thank you for making my visit the best :)

Food Ok But Terrible Service

I decided to visit this diner with some friends as we were in the area. To cut a long story short overall its nice - decoration, food, pricing are all OK. (Although do not expect food quality or portion size of a REAL american diner).

The thing that ruined it for us was the quality of service. It was half full when we were there so not jam packed busy. There were two ladies waitressing and they were awful. Very abrupt and none of them acknowledged us even though we stood for a good five minutes waiting to be seated. The one on the till was moody and we felt like we were putting her out by paying. And they mixed up our very simple order.

A bit like Fawlty Towers !

Amazing Food, staff Very Welcoming And Very Child Friendly

This really is the best fry up i have ever eaten!!! I am a childminder and take alot of children with me to checkers. The staff cant do enough for me and the children. Being a regular they just know what i am going to order and everytime the standard is just how i like my fry up cooked, it is a five star quality way of starting my day. Me and my husband often cone here on a Sunday aswell to relax. Plus we come here before and afer a holiday as we know we wont get another fry up like we do here anywhere else. I use to go to Sainsburys before i started coming to checkers but since coming here we could bever go back to the Sainsburys raw fry up. I have recommended Checkers to everyone i know.

The food is great value for money, service is always given with a smile and it is my once if not twice a week hang out.

Great Venue, Good Food, Shame About The Really Bad Service

There were only 3 other tables dining whists we were there, yet one of the two waitresses completely, and very rudely ignored us on several occasions. The other waitress was actually quite sweet, but was clearly running around trying to do the work of both waitresses, as the rude waitress only seemed to want to work the til. The food was fine, apart from the fact that half of our meals arrived 5 minutes after the first half, the eggs were very snotty on top, and we had ordered toast but it never arrived. When we asked for the bill, they tried to charge us for the toast we never received, and again, the waitress was extremely rude.

It's such a shame, as Checkers used to be a fun place to go with a great atmosphere. Today we were made to feel our presence was a total inconvenience to the waitresses. Not a nice experience at all.

American Diner/transport Cafe

This is a real find tucked away as it is in the middle of an industrial estate but it's worth the time spent seeking it out!

It is located on the ground floor of and integral with an office block (Amaryllis House, Montrose Road, Chelmsford, CM2 6TE) in what appears to be its own fenced in plot of land with its own car park. Upon opening the door one is confronted with a pleasant atmosphere, an approximation of an American Diner with tables and chairs set out in that style along the length of the smallish room with the kitchen on view at the side producing interesting and promising cooking smells.

Having received a friendly welcome the relatively simple, not overtly 'American' menu will be found to cater for all appetites from snacks and sandwiches to monumental all day breakfasts; I chose a moderately sized plate but a gut busting fry-up can be ordered where one selects preferred component parts. This is quickly prepared and well presented at the table, again served with a friendly smile; all very tasty accompanied by good coffee (a small point here - the coffee was served black with TWO pots of creamer rather than the usual scant one). On the day I visited, the meal could have been rounded off by a Tiramisu with cream or ice cream. The menu could I suppose be regarded as 'mid-Atlantic' as it borrows from traditional English and US fare eg Eggs Benedict, salads, bagels and black pudding!

In all a very pleasant experience and one which I shall repeat; it is by no means costly - my bill came to about £7.00!

I have no hesitation in recommending this tucked away gem of an eatery.

Reading All The Other Reviews I Decided To Visit C

Reading all the other reviews I decided to visit Checkers Diner to see what it was like. When I arrived I was greeted nicely and sat down with a drinks order at the ready. I ordered a 10 Piece English breakfast which cost £6.50 I think. The food arrived quickly and I was very satisfied at the time of which it came. I liked the fact that you could see the staff working in the kitchen as the preparation area was on show, so you could see everything being made. The staff were very friendly and efficient and the uniforms were immaculate.

As I was leaving I mentioned to one of the waitresses about the reviews I had seen and I was informed that the company was now under New Management, and personally I think that Checkers is a fantastic place and I shall be returning again to try something different from there wide spread menu.

Poor Service, Poor Food, Overall Standard Extremel

Poor service, poor food, overall standard extremely poor. Not worthy of a second try, do yourself a favour and don't bother with the first try. Rude staff, unfriendly waitress. Made to feel uncomfortable as she was not coping with volume even though restaurant wasn't particulary busy. Not worth the trip no matter what the cost

Worst Ever!!! Waitress Extremely Rude. Poor Servi

Worst ever!!! Waitress extremely rude. Poor service and food awful. Fried food in grease that was so old and reused it tasted bitter. I would definitely not recommend trying here. Had brought 2 young children and 3 adults and all were extremely disappointed.

Edible, Average Food, But Nothing Special. Portio

Edible, average food, but nothing special. Portion sizes are relatively small (not really in line with an 'American' Diner), and prices are quite high considering.
