Fantastic Boots - Love Them !

I'm now well into my second season and totally happy with my Scarpa Terra boots. They offer amazing comfort from day 1 and i love the lighter weight and more flexible sole which is perfect for me on the south downs, handles the flint trails well and 100% waterproof so far.

Agree there are other more serious boots like the Ranger & Delta but horses for courses these boots are perfect for light walking and recommend them.

If you have wide feet then these may not be the right boot for you, which my good lady has just discovered.

Scarpa Terra Are Terrible!

Bought these from Cotswold outdoors about three months ago fter being assured they were a good replacement for my old style brasher fell masters which I had worn to destruction. I know brashers have an image problem amongst serious walkers but they always used to suit my wide, large, flat feet. Cotswold no longer stock brashers so I went with the recommendation especially as they felt soooooo comfy straight out of the box.

Problems began as soon as I was doing any walking outside. After an hour on the flat, the soles of both feet ached liked I'd been on an all day hike. After hill walking , I started having issues with my right calf and ankle, followed by a painful big toe joint. I tried all manner of remedies, different thickness and quality socks, hard insoles, soft insoles. Nothing made any difference.

Additionally the leather looked scuffed and worn after only three or four outings.

I ended up at the physio, and the podiatrist. I have Achilles tendonitis because I carried on too long in discomfort, and , crucially , because the soles of the scarpa terra are flexible whereas the brashers are much more solid. There is another boot in the scarpa range that more closely matches my existing boots, which should have been offered to me at the time. Scarpa have been very sympathetic - they sent insoles, and offered a discount on another boot from their range, but I simply have lost faith in them.

I have never had any of these problems with walking boots before. They should be named Scarpa Terrible. No use whatsoever to anyone. Unless you have a walking boot fetish and like to wear them indoors.

Quintessential Boot For Light Hiking

Please tell me all you Brits are not serious with these crappy one star reviews, that you are all in on a collective prank of some sort. The Scarpa Terra GTX pair I own are outstanding for comfort, possibly the most comfortable piece of footwear I've ever owned. I am a collector with 40 or so different hikers, all world class Asolo, Zamberlan, Kayland, Mammut, and Lowa. I would rate these as the best boot I own for easy trail hiking and light backpacking. Excellent traction on almost any surface including wet and snow. Supple tongue makes them easy to adjust and lace up. Flexible leather makes break-in easy and perfect as a go-to boot for any casual outing. They are obviously not intended for expeditions over very rough or rocky terrain. The injection molded sole means you cannot resole them, but still, they should give very good service for many years. Mine is the American model (nubuck rather than the oiled leather) writing from Englewood, CO, USA. Cheers!

As a Brit i absolutely agree mine are superb with no issues as a walker.

Yes yes yes, the most comfortable walking boots I have ever had. I use sorbothane insoles on all my walking shoes so have added those to my Terra GTX and having suffered for months prior to purchase from plantar fasciitis I was quickly into pain-free walking with these, am recommending them to everyone.

Initially Very Comfortable!

After wearing these boots for only two days the seam on the inside of the boot started to dig into my foot. I was initially wary of buying a boot with a seam but trusted that a respectable brand like Scarpa would not get the styling and comfort of a walking boot so wrong! So within a week I returned the boots for a full refund. I have had a pair of Zamberlan boots for 23 years and they were extremely comfortable, perhaps I will have to seek out another pair but have not found any in my local shops.

Love My New Boots

These are my first pair of leather walking boots as usually go for a shoe, however have now had my boots for almost six months I have found them excellent. Comfy and totally waterproof, having given them a real test in snow up to my knees and very boggy moorland, my feet were totally dry. The neck around the ankle is soft and comfortable and the chap in the go outdoors shop was very helpful in showing how to tie the laces for comfort..I did however buy a men's size 8 as the ladies size was a little narrow for my feet, but they have been fantastic and would definitely recommend them. Also they are not too heavy, so even after several miles of hiking, they didn't feel like lead weights.

Dreadful Quality. Just Dreadful.

With some excitement and eager anticipation, I decided to part with £130.00 for the Terra GTX, replacing my trusty old Scarpa Asolo Attack walking boots, thus purchasing my first pair since 1992. By God, what a mistake.

The Terra GTX are hopeless. The alarm bells started ringing when the box arrived with 'made in Romania' written on it. The boots are light, cheap, flimsy, and, well, just terrible quality; I am struggling to believe just how much a renowned, brand name can compromise quality in the name of profit.

I've given them every chance (I've worn them on three walks), and, although pretty comfortable, look as though they're about three years old already. The soles have started to degrade and the leather – with a Gore Tex membrane – will not last the distance.

They just don't make Scarpa boots like they used to. I'm putting them on EBay this afternoon. Whatever I yield from the sale will go towards resoling my old Asolo Attack buddies – a decision I wish I had made weeks ago. If you're a serious walker, avoid these things like the plague. They're terrible.

WOW, I was about to pay £130 for a pair from Cotswold Outdoor (based on absolutely amazing reviews on their site!). Now I am having a re-think, especially as it appears £130 is an over the top price anyway! THANKS for this honest review.

MONTBLANC6

I was actually going to Go Outdoors tomorrow (2nd Oct) to purchase a pair of these Scarpa boots as they have an extra 15% off list price from £116.99. I won`t be bothering now as this is the third dreadful review i have read in the past few minutes about these boots. Scarpa are you listening !!

Great Boot For 3 Years Of Constant Dogwalking And Trekking

Bought these Scarpa Terra GTX boots in winter 2009/2010, I used them pretty much every day each winter for mega long dogwalking through all conditions, and done a fair bit of walking around hills and little mountains with them. Also used them as work boots for light carpentry and other outdoor work. So all in all a reasonably punishing existence for them. I would say I must have walked a couple of thousand miles in them.

I was really really happy with them, they were super comfy, super warm and watertight, and felt agile and supportive.

Now it is Winter 2012/2013 and they have finally had it. The soles are worn nearly flat and the leather is peeling away from the rubber soles. I have to say I never fed or cared for the leather.

They were 110 GBP, for 3 very good years of boot. As other reviewers note, they cannot be repaired. This to me seems a bit of a shame to have to go buy a new pair now. But for me this seems like decent mileage.

I note other reviewers seem to have had a terrible time with them, I almost can't believe it's the same boot. But my experience was good.

Scarpa Terra Gtx

If you want a boot for anything more strenuous than walking around the garden or along nice country lanes then don't buy this boot. I purchased a pair and used them in the Lake District for one week at the beginning of June. Despite proofing the boots regularly in accordance with the advice given by the sales assistant, and having walked no more than 25 miles in them, the boots look as though I've had them for years. I have had two pairs of Scarpa boots previously, albeit made of heavier leather than the Terra GTX, without any problems.I'm very disappointed with these boots.

Fantastic Comfort - But....

After a terrible experience with Meindl Burma Pro I was recommended the Scarpa Terra and they are AWESOME.............apart from one fatal flaw.....

YOU CANNOT RESOLE THESE BOOTS!

Yes that's right, they have a Vibram sole but it is a direct injection moulded sole, that helps explain why they are so amazingly comfortable (and believe me they are amazing). This means that the sole will not come away from the boot (beats the Meindl hands down on that front where both soles FELL OFF mine!) and guarantees their watertight-ness.

Like other reviewers on this site my sole wore away and hey presto after only 14 months of proud dog walking (about 1 mile a day on tarmac and 5 miles on fields) the sole wore down and began to leak water - from the bottom up through to the lining). Once again a great boot with a pretty major flaw.

I challenge anyone to find a more comfortable boot. But the $64,000 question - would I buy another pair?

Sorry Scarpa - NO, these are expensive items and should not be considered disposable, find a way to make these soles replaceable and I would buy the Scarpa Terra again in a heartbeat.

14 months of 6 miles daily (assuming that is every single day) sounds pretty reasonable really.

Drahcir3

Good review. 14 months doesn't seem long but there again 6 miles a day for 14 months adds up to 2500 miles - which seems to be about twice the mileage that many hikers expect to get out of their boots. Or to put it another way its about 800 hours use which is probably much longer than any of my outdoor gear has ever lasted.

My expensive Salamon boots wore a hole in their fabric carcase after only 150miles! Luckily Ellis Brigham replaced them without quibble despite the fact they were out of warrantee. Well done Ellis!

FIMoss

Good review. Have worn these boots for work purposes, covering approx 7 miles a day on hilly ground in Shetland. First pair lost their water-tightness after around 3 months and an email to Scarpa resulted in them sending me a pair total free of charge - you cant fault their customer service! However the second pair only lasted a month of similar punishment, with the sole wearing through on this occasion as you say. Its been nearly a year since I received them, so figure its too late to request a refund...

I think the next model up will be what's required, but £115 for this pair; that ain't cheap. Expect more...

Q&A

IANCAULFIELD

I bought these boots about a year ago, fantastic boot could not fault them.I have walked over 500miles in them.just wonder would anyone know where to get vibram soles replaced.if I could get soles put on them preferably in the south of Ireland.I would happily wear them till they fell apart.I would be willing to pay 30 to 50euro.if it is going to be more than that I will have to consider new boots.thanks

CaroleNicoll

My mother used nikwax waterproofing wax for leather on my walking boots, will this harm them? I have a 10 year guarantee does this mean I won't need to ever waterproof them during that ten years?

Please advise the best way to protect my boots.

cherryemmy

Has anyone found this boot in UK size 3? Or can you recommend a similar brand on this size? Thanks in advance.
