Toshiba SD-42HK

I have had 2 of these, and the same thing has happened to both. All of a sudden it will switch itself off, and will not play DVD or Audio disks for longer then 10 minutes.

The Toshiba SD-42HK has played most disks without too much trouble.

However, other disks that run fine with other DVD players I've played them in, now play in pseudo black and white. The film Double Vision plays in B&W entirely, but plays in colour on my computer DVD. Error correction does not seem as good as other brands DVD players I have tried. One disk caused the DVD to freeze in several places - the same disk in my computer played fine. Perhaps I got a bad model. I can only suggest if you are going to buy a DVD player, make sure you give it a good work out with many DVDs before the grace period runs out.

I recently bought this system from richer sounds and so far I am very pleased with both picture and sound quality. I have to say though the sub is slightly underpowered to what i expected, however is still adequate for the size if the room. Good quality DTS decoder and crisp images make for a good all round player. No scart connection which may provide a small inconvenience for some, however S-video provides better picture quality, so happy days!

bought this kit couple of months ago, was quite happy with the picture exept on blacks, some pixilation but the sound was very dissapointing mainly because the subwoofer was so weak which in turn made the unit sound harsh when turned up,later exchanged for samsung htdm 150,a lot happier.

Bought this Toshiba SD-42HK system on the recommendation that it was better than the Sony DAVS400. IT IS NOT.

It is however true HI FE - in 2chanel Stereo mode it is really faithful to the production. It picks up the most delicate or instruments and creates real atmosphere and is wonderful. Not so in every other sound mode. Picture is also disappointing.
