Do Not Buy Mercedes A160

I bought the car in December 2016 in Singapore second hand, 2002 model. It's a beautiful car but has a very terrible reliability. It started with the fuel pump, wiper washer pump, electric mirror motors, interior mirror and the worst the car started to jerk on each and every stop and acceleration afterwards, gear box failed and also EPS/ABS pump spoiled. Mercedes Singapore asked for 17K to change the gear box and 7K to replace the EPS/ABS pump. Even thou giving the car to a non Mercedes mechanic specialized in gear box overhauling the repair costed 6+K. The problems still continued and after 6 month the car was in my possession I sold the car off with a huge loss. So please think twice to get yourself an A160, never again for me! I expected more from a Mercedes, reliability at least.

Worst Car Ever Had

This car looks fine and have a lot of luggage space. after 2 years it started to have one problem after the other. No one likes to fix it and charge you a lot. Now i have a automatic gear box problem. How Mercedes build this car is beyond my imagination. I think this is the worst car ever came across.

The car is 13 years old for goodness sake

I have had a 170CDI A Class from new in 2003 - a delightful car and never had any problems with it. Regularly serviced to makers recommendations.

In fact am looking to buy a second hand one to similar specification.

Fully agree. I had exactly the same issues all the time.

Worst Car I Ever Owned

I bought a second hand because I thought it looked good and would fit in nicely in my garage. However, I have been in and out of the garage so often that ALL my friends, relatives and office colleagues have advised me to get rid of the car. Gear box problem, steering problem, acceleration problem, gross lack of power that 650c.c. cars are overtaking you, leaky sun-roof, ABS-ESP signals and the list goes on and on...

Have Had Nothing But Trouble With The Control Unit

Have had nothing but trouble with the control unit in the gear box and continually have to have the wheels re aligned . Mercedes Benz S.A. has done nothing about my car. Every time it went in for a service they reset the the computer and it was a little better. Soon as maintenance plan ended they found the fault and quoted R22.500 .

We had our A160 in at Mercedes for 3 lots of work on the automatic gearbox , over R10,000. It still slips 'out of gear' from time to time. The changes are smooth except when crawling along jammed highways then it is very rough and jerky. Changing to 1st helps a bit but we will never buy an A160 again. especially after a starter replacement cost R6000 from Mercedes as the whole engine has to be removed!

The Smell Of Petrol Was Strong For A While With No

The smell of petrol was strong for a while with no obvious sign of a leak. Eventually after seeing other forums say it is a faulty clip where the fule pipe connects in the engine bay i asked a garage to specifically look at that area. The watched - and watched - and watched - and YES! saw an intermittent spray of fuel leaking. it was small and intermittent so was evapourating quickly - hence i had not seen the leak before. Thank Heaven it is an easy fix to replace a clip. months of headaches from petrol fumes a thing of the past!

In March 2010 I Took Delivery Of A New Mercedes A

In March 2010 I took delivery of a new Mercedes A Class 180 CDI automatic. My car is only 72mm off the ground. That's less than three inches and certainly not enough ground clearance for our road conditions. It cannot cope with speed humps or uneven surfaces without scraping the base of the car. Surprisingly for a supposedly top brand, Mercedes refuses to repair the vehicle or take it back.Put simply,in my opinion, it is not fit for purpose. Think very carefully before considering either the car or the customer care you might want to get from Mercedes.

This Car Seems To Spends More Time In The Mechanic

This car seems to spends more time in the mechanics garage than in mine. Three and a half months in the garage and over $9500 spent on the auto transmission. Then $700 on rear suspension. $2000 on starter/ring gear. I won't bore you with the rest. Its a brilliant car when it is going but sadly thats too infrequently. This is not the sort of quality one expects from Mercedes-Benz, and I would not recommend an A160 to anyone.
