Salamis Greek Restaurant, Peterborough

Went there last night after shopping in Peterborough. We got our table at 5 pm just as they opened. We ordered the meze and never stopped eating or drinking until 8 pm. Our time there was so good with great food, a great wine selection, very polite interactive staff who although busy found time to look after our needs. We could have stayed there another hour or so I am sure but unfortunately we had a train to catch. As restaurants go, it is so easy to lose yourself in the great atmosphere that this restaurant offers. Everybody who likes Greek food should give this restaurant a try.

I cannot get enough of this restaurant ! The staff are all welcoming and genuine and the food is authentic, Moorish and delicious. when there you are very aware that your not in a tacky chain restaurant like the many near-by dining areas. There is plenty of choice and you wont be disappointed with one of them ! i would definitely recommend this restaurant to family and friends.

We have been here twice now and will continue to and to recommend it. The food is just fabulous, especially the fish, which is fresh, light and delicious. The mezzas are meals in themselves and dishes keep coming as they are prepared. We love this place and the waitress, wife of the owner is highy entertaining if you understand her sense of humour! Her husband does the cooking and he is very obliging.

Where do I start!?! We arrived at Salamis to find the restaurant empty around 7pm. As I'm sure most of my fellow dinners would agree, when you go out for a meal the quality of food is extremely important but equally important is the atmosphere. So, because it was empty we decided to go to one of the nearby bars to have a drink, and then come back later. When we explained this to the waitress she was very defensive and dismissive, and asked us what was more important.. the food or the busyness of the restaurant? Shocked by her response we stated both were important!! She was then completely uninterested and walked away. We left. We most certainly should have followed our instincts and not returned, however we had travelled a fair distance to have some Greek food. When we returned the same waitress greeted us with "Oh so yoy decided to come back, I didn't believe you". Again quite shocked with her rudeness, we informed her that we had said we were always going to come back in half an hour when the restaurant was busier. From here, once seated we tried to draw a line in the sand and enjoy the food. Firstly we waited for 35minutes before we were offered a drink and a further 20 minutes before the only waitress took our order. The food took an exceptionaly long time to reach our table, and when it eventually arrived our main course was cold. I informed the waitress who wasn't apologetic in the slightest, whicked my plate away back to the kitchen. Whatever you do don't order the lamb on the bone. It tasted and looked like a lump of boiled tasteless meat, cold, and accompanied by some clumpy rice. The fragrance of the rice was lovely however inedible due to the amount of time it had obviously been microwaved. When my dish was finaly bought back, the waitress was still dismissive and didn't apologise. The meal was a huge disappointment and we completely regret going there. I asked for the bill and the waitress saw our plates were far from empty so she then asked what was wrong. Absolutely ridiculous!! I'm so angry that I had to spend my hard earned cash in an establishment like Salamis where the food and service was awful. The waitress gave me the bill with no gesture of good will in regards to taking anything from it. You would never expect this from a reputable restaurant. Needless to say I will never be visiting this restaurant again and would never recommend it.

i myself usually stick to foods i know i like and took a big gamble of going to salamis for a meze, and i thoroughly found it outstanding and loved every dish served, the atmosphere is brilliant and the staff and chef cannot do enough for you, the resturant itself is very clean i would definately reccomend to everyone

Been there last night and was overall one of the best experience with a restaurant here in UK. Food is good (and with the set offer, even the biggest belly will be filled) and loved the belly dancing entertainment involving customers! Super friendly people that along with food makes you want to come back again!

Will go there nearly every week, and the owner recommended a different dishes, all the time.The fresh King Prawns and the fresh Fish its hard to find in town, but there, they are. Before they cooking, they showing to you, and you see what you get. Anyway, the food its fantastic and value for money. The atmosphere its cosy and friendly. I will really recommend to every body.

It was the first time at Salamis Greek Restaurant, Peterborough, we had tried Greek food, staff were helpful and friendly. Plenty of choice. And the belly dancer later in the evening was entertaining. Good food, helpful staff. Only bad point toilets bit cramped.

Would not recommend Salamis Greek Restaurant. It was closed for 6 years and does not come up to its old standard. Same owner.

I would definitely go back to Salamis Greek Restaurant, it's got a great atmosphere and the food is fantastic value for money.
