La Grolla, Upminster

We were regulars at La Grolla but found the service and food quality declined over the last few years, eventually deciding not to return. Noticing the new shop front, whilst walking past, we decided to try. We will be back! Relaxed friendly and generous portions of nicely cooked food. Menu could be expanded and decor needs attention, but early days yet. We eat out quite a bit and found this to be nice and well worth it. Good luck guys, John & Claire.

I cannot believe the other reviews on this restaurant - have these people ever eaten out before? This is a poor restaurant stuck in time from the stale grissini to the curled up dip vegetables and the dated decor and two bob wine glasses - yet the bil came to over £100 for two adults and a youth and we didn't drink a lot as I was driving. Avoid at all costs

We have been to la grolla many times and find it hard to beat, it is a very nice place to spend and evening and enjoy good food, whilst having great service from friendly staff.

We visited La Grolla restaurant on Saturday. First impressions were good, service was initially attentive, there was a good wine list and the starters were tasty and quickly served. However after waiting an hour and a quarter we asked about our main course was and seemed to be told 'we're very busy' with no apology. These main courses were decidedly average (the veal milanese was supposed to be served with spaghetti arrabiata i.e. spicy sauce, which seemed disappointingly bland to me and the sea bass fillets were not as good as I had expected). What was really upsetting was the attitude of one member of staff when we queried the long wait. We would not be rude enough to pay less than the bill but in my opinion an apology and some sort of recgonition to our problem was all that we would have needed.

We have recently been to Locanda Locatelli in London and I have to say la Grolla's food is just as enjoyable. Excellent service with quality food. It is so good to have a nearby local restaurant with London standards. No bad points whatsoever. Congratulations. We are dining their for valentines dinner.

La Grolla in Upminster is an authentic Italian restaurant, with dedicated owners, whose obvious passion for good food and service sets them way apart from the everyday restaurant experience. These people care, and it shows.
