Nobody Knew What To Do!
6th March 2020
Not Verified | Staff training needed in fire procedures. Yesterday we arrived from Dubai and awaited the return of our cases. Whereas I accept that an Emirates flight has a lot of baggage to take off the plane we considered the wait far too long - around 30 minutes. I have never waited so long in an airport to collect our baggage. Whilst still waiting the fire alarm went off and nobody seemed to know what to do. There was no loud speaker announcement just someone shouting to leave the building, which could easily have been missed if you were one end of the terminal. But as we tried to leave, the security doors were shut through to the outside area and people were kept locked in. As a public sector worker I have been trained to leave the building immediately and yet we were locked in the baggage collection area, which I consider a breach of fire regulations as shouldn't you leave immediately and report to an allocated point in the airport? Nobody seemed to know what to do and people were told not to collect any more bags but to leave - we couldn't. This could have turned into a very serious fire with casualties as people were not trained to react quickly. If the safety and security of passengers is of paramount importance why did this not continue when a fire bell rang - shame on you Birmingham Airport.

Ok Service But
Recently travelled from Birmingham Airport to Faro; it was our first experience at Birmingham airport. Overall everything thing was good compared with Luton or Stanstead queues and transfer from carparks to the terminal. However, totally disappointment that in in Birmingham Airport there is no drinking water stations for customers to refill drinking water. Society is aware of the security implications of not taking liquids through airport security checks and those checks are fully supported but there is no reason why one cannot take an empty water bottles through to be refilled on the other side. In addition to this I was unable to see clear areas for recycling (The waste management policy states ' minimise waste and recycle where possible' ) In todays world for recycling incentives and our awareness of the environmental implication for plastic pollution, why are customers being encouraged to throw away drink bottles and purchase plastic bottles for drinking water? Outlets charged approx. £3.00 for a bottle of water! What a total rip off. talk about getting people in a holding pen for two hours and exploiting your captive audience. why isn't the airport encouraging recycling and providing water filling stations? Not everyone wants to drink alcohol in the an airport!

Shambolic
I recently had the displeasure of using Birmingham Airport. The queues in passport control were horrendous and we had to wait for forty minutes to clear. The escalators were switched off to stop passengers shunting into each other. The Disney method of queuing reminds one of animals in cattle pens. You would think after this our cases would be ready for collection, no such luck, we had to wait a further 30 minutes for them to arrive.
I think the problem lies in the rapid expansion of the airport without the infrastructure being in place.
Anyway, I will never use this airport again until the facilities have improved. I would rather travel further afield and get a decent service.

Ashamed This Is My Local Airport
long queues on arrival at passports. That happens.
Disabled toilet not working. No advice on alternatives. No staff providing info. No one cares. No one knows a manager I can talk to. Border control blame airport. Airport staff blame border control. Advised to raise toilet issues with the Home Office. Try wall phone. Every number is on Voicemail apart from emergency number which doesn't answer at all. Total absence of management. No one is interested or cares. A total embarrassment.
Eventually told they are busy. True but you might think the number of flights is predictable.....
Birmingham Airport Parking
Used Maple Manor Parking at Birmingham Airport recently. Arrived at about 0515 to find area used for car drop off was absolutely chaos. No empty bays to park car so after waiting 15 minutes just had to park car anywhere, and give key to staff otherwise would have been late for flight.
Worst courtesy parking I have ever used.
Nothing to like about it!

Best Airport We've Used In Years
We travel from a UK airport 2 - 3 times a year. We are a group of seven people who's ages range from 86 to 5 years. We usually travel from Gatwick and occasionally Cardiff, or Bristol. This is the first time we have used Birmingham for many years and I was REALLY impressed. We needed special assistance as the eldest member of our group has reduced mobility. Being able to pick up a wheelchair on arrival made it all so easy. We could navigate the site with ease before leaving her in the capable hands of the special assistance team for boarding. The wheel chair was again left with us, for our convenience, when we returned. No having to climb on, or off buggies like at Gatwick. The resources for children were great too. Keeping them not only amused, but educational as well. That combined with a great choice of shops and great onsite parking, means that Birmingham will be my first choice for air travel in the future

Unsatisfactory End To Holiday
Returned from Sharm El Sheikh on Sunday 22nd March 2015 at 21.15. Finally disembarked at 21.50. The reason for the delay was the steps delivered to the plane were the wrong size so we had to wait for a replacement set which took 30 minutes. Not really what you want at that time of the evening following a 6 hour flight. I know of someone else who had the same issue last year. Get a grip Birmingham , you keep telling us want to expand.
Just to be fair the outgoing bag drop , security checks , time in departures were a good experience.

Baggsge Reclaim
arrived 6:55 Saturday morning from New York. reached the baggage reclaim conveyor belt where my companions luggage came off within 10 minutes. we waited a further 20 minutes before an announcement was made that no baggage would be coming off the New York flight they would be unloading the luggage from the Montego Bay flight which arrived after the New York flight. we then had to wait a further 25 minutes for the New York baggage to be unloaded. 55 minutes waiting for luggage when there were only two flights landed. 3-4 carousels completely empty and not used at all. . What does this say about a 'international' airport. what atrocious service
