Ialyssos, Ialyssos Bay Hotel

Stayed in Ialyssos Bay Hotel in October 2004. It was cheap so I do suppose you get what you pay for. It is (or could be) quite a nice hotel but is need of a major overhaul - everthing looks so dated apart from the pool area.

The rooms were ok but very dark and hardly any lighting and we were greeted by a cockroach in the bathroom after returning from a night out. Yuk.

The hotel food is geared towards the germans/dutch and the majority of guests are. It was quite repetitive buffet style but quite edible on the whole. There was no entertainment whatsoever.

The hotel is also on the flight path to the airport and some of the planes fly so close you can see the people in the windows.

The hotel reception staff were very miserable and off-hand and not very helpful at all (especially the night time ones). The nicest person in the hotel was the guy who sits in reception selling the car hire - he was very helpful and recommended good beaches & restaurants to us.

Another personal gripe was that you had to pay for the sunbeds around the pool which I think is unfair.
