Had Generac 7550exl Electric Start For 4 Years And
Had Generac 7550EXL Electric Start for 4 years and use every Summer and Fall to power a horse trailer with living quarters (heat, air, hotwater, waterpump and more) and I'ved never had a problem. Still the same battery that came with it, and I never crank it till I need it. Sometimes 5 months in between starts and it fires right up everytime.

the generac 7550exl is good for the price, will have to maintain very often as carb float will get stuck if left for period of time flooding air intake. Love the surge capacity.

Used My Generac 7550exl Electric Start Through Two
Used my Generac 7550EXL Electric Start through two hurricanes, have had generator for over three years, still has original battery. Always starts easy. Start generator once a month and let run for 10 mins. Note: works best if you even the load on both legs with the use of an amp clamp and moving wires to the low load side in breaker box.
The First Time I Needed It For Backup Power It Ran
The first time I needed it for backup power it ran about 20 min under about 50% load rating and it just stopped producing electricity. I shut it off for the night and restarted the next day but there was not electrical output.

I Was Surprised At The Quality Of This Unit Consid
I was surprised at the quality of this unit considering at around $1000, it was the least expensive American made generator I could find. The 7550EXL appears to be a Generac model sold exclusively through the Home Depot.
The generator has a 15HP single cylinder gasoline engine with a mechanical governer, electric start and an extra large fuel tank all mounted to a tubular steel chassis with integrated wheels.
The 7550EXL's single phase generator basically supplies two 30A circuits which are split up into to an assortment of individually breakered NEMA sockets on the front panel.
We used the generator to power the server room of a medium sized company which housed the company's phone system along with about 15 small wintel based servers. Each computer in the server room was plugged into its own dedicated APC UPS which were in turn divided up and plugged into one of two 20A circuits that supplied the server room. The two 20A circuits were hard wired to a Reliance transfer switch. When we first tested the system, all the UPS's violently flipped back and forth from utility power to battery power. After some investigation, we determined that by lowering what APC calls the input voltage sensitivity, the UPS's got along just fine with Generac.
Overall this thing was an excellent value.
I ran everything in my house during a recent power outage and that included 2 refrigerators, 1 freezer, lights, tv's, computer and only after someone turned on a 220v bathroom heater did it trip a breaker on the generator......I pushed it until I popped a breaker and what I ran on it was more than I normally do.....I just wish I could find a quieter muffler for it.
Q&A
Can I use a regular battery charger to bring the battery back to life? I was going to take cables off the battery and hook charger to battery. Any ideas for a dead battery?
My Generac 7550's Idle control doesn't seem to be working properly. When I turn it on it seems to be all over the place. I tried setting it as per the manual specs but still not working well. please if someone has an understanding on who it works and what may be causing my problem please let me know. All else on the generator is working fine.
