I Own A Volkswagen Polo Gt 130 1.9 Tdi, 210hp, 300
I own a Volkswagen Polo GT 130 1.9 TDi, 210hp, 300+ lb/ft, have done 50,000 miles and has never skipped a single beat, not 1 problem! Still returns 50mpg on very fast B road commute, cheap insurance (group 8) Don't let the statistics fool you, it pulls very hard from 50 to top end in 6th, in gear acceleration will beat any standard Gti, R32 with ease. I wouldn't trade this car in for anything, though I do own several other track, luxury cars. For an every day road car 10/10. Top tip, get the best tyres you can afford, makes alot of difference to grip and safety.
Hi first of all I found your review very useful, thanks alot. Secondly, how did you manage to get 210bhp from the little Polo? Not off a remap alone surely? Any reply would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The Volkswagen Polo Gt 130 1.9 Td Is A Smooth Driv
The Volkswagen Polo GT 130 1.9 TD is a smooth drive, reliable, cheap to run low road tax what else would you want. Oh and very quick! The build of the car itself is just all round brilliant, it runs smoothly and saves a lot of diesel having a 6th gear to coust in and is deseptive when it comes to accelaration. Which ever gear your in it really shifts when you puy your foot down. There really aint any bad points, if anything your first gear aint long long enough to build up a lot of speed but it just means you have to change gear quicker? A bone point really!

Downgraded From A Mercedes C43 Amg. This Car Has S
Downgraded from a Mercedes C43 AMG. This car has superb torque to weight ratio. The ratio is enough to make it a great drivers car, just wish it was a DSG gearbox. The driving position is good.
Sound insulation could be a bit better as there is quite a bit of road noise which a bit of padding could solve. Coming from petrol to diesel - the torque is the biggest point, the car feels like its got a 3.5 litre petrol engine under the bonnet. The in-gear accleration (even top gear) on motorway drives is just superb (eg, 50-70). High torque diesels are the way forward. Sure the rev range is limited and in the lower gears can be a pain to change (especially coming from automatics) but once moving this car is just a superb drive.
Great review, the 1.9 seems to just get top marks, far cry to the luke warm 1.4tdi 3cyl version. I'm going to be coming from my saxo vts and am looking forward to the pleasures of a diesel, performance is a bonus but certainly not at the top of my list. Is this a completely fdifferent engine to audi a4 tdi etc?
Great review btw!

The Vw Polo 1.9 Pd Diesel Engine Has That Unbreaka
The VW Polo 1.9 PD diesel engine has that unbreakable quality. But the engine with it's 6 speed gear box didn't really loosen up until the car had done about 5000+ mls. It was so tight that it was possible to even stall the car if over geared in traffic even at 20+ mph. But not now! However I think this idiosyncrasy has brought about all the mediocre road tests that I have read. The test cars were probably just too new.
Overall A Very Good Understated Car Let Down By Ty
Overall a very good understated car let down by typical polo faults and very expensive back tracking dealers! Keep pushing them as regards all warranty period faults and they will begrudgingly sort for free. I should imagine the cheaper car have the same problems plus more but when paying near 16k for a super mini we expect a better show pull your finger out VW or do as other manufacturers do £6995 5 years zero finance free servicing £2k for your swapper etc.

As Soon As I Test Drove The Volkswagen Polo Gt 130
As soon as I test drove the Volkswagen Polo GT 130 1.9 TDi, I knew I had to have it. The drive is spot on, and is so smooth you think the speedo is lying - so watch it past cameras. So much torque you rarely have to change gear. Pulls from 60mph to 80mph in no time, even in 6th gear. Sharp brakes, but it kids you into thinking you can corner faster than you should. Fantastic stereo, although travel announcements are annoying, and not easily turned off. The 6 CD changer is amazing. Build quality sets it well above the Corsa SRi and Citroen C2/C3's I test drove. You do have to pay a little bit more though - get an ex demo! This is a proper pocket rocket.
Agree with the reviewer. Also took his advice and got an ex demo. Superb car!
