Shrinkage
When I tried these Meindl Meran GTX Comfort Fit boots on in the shop they were really comfortable; they were so comfortable that I spent a week walking about 10 miles a day without any problems. They have a Gortex lining which kept my feet absolutely dry even when having to virtually wade across a stream and through soaking grass. So at the end of the week I was really happy with them. However, during this very wet week they had never really had the chance to fully dry out overnight before I wore them again but when I got home I cleaned them up and allowed them to dry naturally with no heat applied. When I cam to wear them again I found that the left boot had shrunk across the toe cap area and was trapping my toes. They were not usable in this state so I bought a boot stretcher which has helped but there is still some shrinkage causing a problem. I expect leather boots to stretch with use and not shrink. They were expensive and I would not buy another pair of Meindl boots.
Leaflet in box: "Waterproof new boots before you use them for first time". I didn't, and after an August 9 hrs drenching by Ullswater at its worst, right out of the box, they took 36 hrs to dry. Nubuck does soak it up, a lot, so not using Sportwax the evening of purchase was a mistake. They didn't SHRINK at all, though I can see how they might. Uncannily totally dry inside, throughout a horrible week. Most comfortable boots in life so far, adore them, and probably B, not A/B (Meindl's rating) if you do em up tight. Those uppers proved wonderfully supportive on a steep downhill, and really take half the strain off the toes.
I have a pair of the same boots and have upon reading your review, realised that I was not going crazy and my feet were still growing !!
I have the same problem as you but with both boots, especially the right boot, they have shrunk so much that after wearing them on the Yorkshire 3 peaks challenge they blistered my heel and I lost both my big toe nails.
I intend to write to Meindel and complain as they were £150.00
