Weigh Your Bolt
Have had a quad 400 for 5 years now with no problems. There are a lot of complaints about broken limbs and strings. WEIGH YOUR bolts make sure they are over 420 grains or you WILL have broken limbs and strings do not try to up the speed by using lighter bolts it equals more pressure on strings and limbs.

Allways Broken
first time I bought this bow the scope came loose and would not retighten. Brought it back to where I bought it, and they gave me a new one. Took the new one home, and after shooting it a few times it would not lock anymore. Took that one back. Took the new one home shot it five times, when one of the arms broke. Now I don't know what to do. Total junk

Powerful
Deadly accurate, powerful and true. I've never used a crossbow before, but within 5 practice shots from between 40-60 yards, one would think I was an expert. Hit my rubber practice deer in the heart every time. Now it's time to take it out into the woods and wait for the real thing.

Best Crossbow Around!
I have shot a lot of different crossbows.2 years ago I bought a Barnett Quad 400. It is fast, accurate and reliable for me. But then again I know what I am doing. My family have been bowmen for over 1000 years. My family name even means bowman. Well it has been two hunting seasons and I have yet to miss a target with it. I had a nice white tail last season, I just checked the sights and condition and am ready for this season. Sting is still great shape, arms are clean and ready, and cams work perfectly. All I can say is that if you don't know what your doing then get instructions. Don't blame the equipment if you don't have the experience to qualify your statements. I will happily pass it on to my nephews when I die.

Piece Of Junk
Bought this xbow around Labor day, string has broken twice and left limb shattered once. Have lost much time hunting and it is frustrating when you live in northern Wis. with no archery shops nearby so it has to be sent in every time. So in summary in the last 2 months it has broken 3 times and has spent more time getting fixed then me having it. The xbow cannot be trusted plus it is dangerous.

Powerful, Fun With A Kick.
This an awesome bow, I wouyld recommend it to anyone who is serious about bow hunting. I've fired over 200 bolts throught it and it's dead on 2 1/2 inch groups at 30 and 40 yards every time. I would just make sure you assemble carefully, and lube it frequently and you will enjoy crossbow hunting with it for a long time. I only use recommended bolts and I've had no freying or string issues. I have the cranking system and it has a learning curve but it works very well.

The Newer 2012 Models Are Much Improved
Amazing bow, the only thing that I found is that... well I shoot a lot o Barnett's products and this one is just to bulky for what it is. I think if you were going to purchase this model I would say Don't and buy the WildCat C5! The wild cat actually shoots at about 340fps when using the correct set up and the Quad does not push the benchmark tests at all. It shoots what the company has stated about it 345fps. For the extra bulk and money its just not worth it. Go Wildcat or jump up to one of the extreme models like the Predator CRT if you have cash burning your pocket.

Dangerous Cross Bow. Fractured Limb
I purchased my Quad 400 back on May of 2009. Right out of the box I had problems with the scope. Found out it was a loose screw on the windage side of the scope. Got it sighed in and on 23 shot the string fraid. Ordered a new one and paid $10 to Gander to have it installed. Then I could not sight it in again and found a screw on the side of the triger kept coming lose. Called and they said to send it in and not to shoot it. Got it back and they replased the lims, cable, string, fixed the screw. Tried to site it in and could not get any grouping. Put a Red Dot scope on it and got it sighted in at 20 and 30 and felt good. The sound of this cross bow is like a 22 going off. This year at hunting camp I pulled it out of the case (sat for 8 months) and it was 7 inch left on 3 shots. Started all over again on sighting. Was good at 20 and left 3 inches at 30. Hunted with it this way as I was in the woods. Last day of October I cocked it and saw the left limb was splintered and had 2 fractures. No deer. Called the company and they said to send it in and for $70 they would replace the limbs with the newer modle limbs. These limbs should have been recalled. If I would not have noticed the splinters and fractures, what would have happen if I shot it. Used a rope to decock it.

Dangerous**should Be Recalled Before Someone Gets Hurt/dies
i am so MAD, this is my second year in a row this bow ruined my hunting SEASON!!!!! and could have seriously hurt SOMEONE!!!! recall is a MUST. its october 7 2012 and i just got back from up north hunting which is a 2 hour DRIVE(TIME is money RIGHT) i got this barnett quad 400 crossbow last year and the string snapped within the first 5 test SHOTS. i immediately took it back to dunnams sporting goods store and they actually swapped it out for a new one so i WOULDN'T miss the whole SEASON. then i go up north hunting with the brand new one and the crank snaps in my FACE, so i continued to pull it back by hand until i could get back in town and get it FIXED. so a season goes by and i had it all fixed up and ready to go hunting AGAIN. i got UP-NORTH and hunted one time for a 4 hour session and put a practice arrow in to fire it so i DIDN'T dry fire the WEAPON( i take the best care of all my hunting GEAR) and the limb snapped right in my FACE. i am so mad right now considering my fiance usually sits in the blind with me and this could have killed her or ME. this crossbow is extremely dangerous and i WOULDN'T use one if they gave me it for FREE. i DON'T plan on calling barnett either i just suggest that everyone i know never buys ONE. people need to know that your playing with your life every time you pull a barnett 400 quad BACK. ******BUYER beware do not buy this CROSSBOW******
My limb bolt just snapped too. They need to recall them and put in a stronger bolt or something. I'm afraid to use it to the limb took out a quarter inch chunk of my stock .5" above where I place my finger.

Q&A
When looking at the yellow part of string where arrow goes in, one side is 3 inches and the other side is 4 inches long. This happens when cocked or uncocked, looks like the string could be pulling to one side and I cannot get arrows to shoot a pattern. Completely missed two deer so far and lost two due to bad hits. I had a horton but could not get parts for it but I never missed with the Horton. Beginning to believe something is wrong with bow. Can I remove that plastic piece holding the strings apart? What could be wrong?
I purchased my Quad 400 last fall 2014. Having read all the bad and scary reviews I was wondering if most of the problems were with older models? Has the product improved with the newer models? Do other Crossbows have similar issues?
