A Fabulous Holiday
Just come back from our one week holiday on the Mahrousa. We thoroughly enjoyed it. The boat was comfortable - there are no lifts for people with walking difficulties. The staff cannot do enough to please. We are vegetarian and were well catered for. The cabins are roomy though the beds were HARD! The trips were fabulous and Haggi our Egyptologist was excellent. We had no problem with the early morning starts as it meant we were back on board for lunch and had the rest of the day to relax. Meal times were fairly informal and we met some lovey people on our trip and everyone was friendly. The Galabeya party was great fun and everybody got into the spirit of things. Overall we had a fabulous holiday and would recommend a Nile Cruise on the Mahrousa.

A Wonderfull Holiday
Just returned from a week on the Mahorousa. We would recommend it to anyone. The staff were very helpfull, the rooms were clean and the food excellent. This holiday was very good value for money. Our Egyptologist was Nazzir and he completely made the holiday for us, with his wealth of knowledge and also his information about current affairs. This was our first trip on the nile and it was fabulous. There was a good mix of ages and types on the boat and everyone was very friendly. Negatives would be - we were on the lower deck and there was a smell of diesal sometimes but it was not overwhelming, also although there was good entertainment it ended very early and you werent encouraged to continue dancing etc past 11.30. We went with Thomas Cooke and the rep was hardly ever present and not very helpful, however this was not the boats fault and i would give this holiday 10/10

Amazing Trip
This was our first Nile cruise and would love to do it again. The boat was very clean and the bedrooms very comfortable, although the mattress was quite hard. There was shower gel and shampoo in the bathrooms, a safe and mini fridge.
The food was lovely. I am a vegetarian and there was always something for me to eat. The trips were well organised and our guide, Smile, was great. He was very knowledgable and had a great sense of humour. The early morning starts were a bit tiring but at least we avoided the heat of the day and had the afternoons to relax by the pool in the gorgeous sunshine. All the staff was wonderful and we had a really good laugh with the waiters and bar staff. All in all it was a fantastic holiday and far better than we expected.

More Than I Expected
The ship was lovely & clean & the crew brilliant, food choices werent massive but ok, always found something to eat, Not much evening entertainment, but what there was, was great especially the egyptian night you have to dress up, but get your costume from the boat boys at the Esna lock, haggle n get it cheap, the trips are amazing & all the early starts are more than worth it, our guide was fantastic, bit gutted that the Old cattaract hotel in Aswan was shut, You have to go to Abu Simbel, & the coach trip is great, even though you go at stupid o clock, do it . cant wait to go again.I walk with a stick & some of the trips were hard going, no lift onboard, but I believe some boats do.
Love, love loved it

My Husband And I Had Never Been On An Organised Pa
My husband and I had never been on an organised package holiday before and we were a bit doubtful about being in a group situation being organised. We did not need to have been concerned. What a marvelous way to escape to a country which has so many different experiences to offer. we could not fault Thomas Cook with the care that quite clearly goes into planning these holidays despite the dreadful snow in the UK.I was overwhelmed by the service we received on board the ship from the Eygptian crew. Kathy our Thomas Cook Rep' was extremely helpful, and again went the extra mile to ensure that we had a lovely holiday. Abdul, the guide, who accomanied us on all our tours was outstanding in his breath of knowledge and was like ever teacher should be in being able to engage with everyone in the group. We also had lots of laughs with him and we always felt safe in is hands.
You do need to be prepared for going to a county culturally very different from your own and we found the constant bombardment of people wanting to sellthings to you sometime rather tiresome. But you have to understand that Eygpt's largest income is from their tourist trade and the related jobs that creates. Appart from the Nile, Eygpt is just a big desert with nothing! Now I mention the desert it was well worth paying the extra fee to get up at 3 in the morning, go across the desert, see the sun rise and see the magnificent Abu Simbel.
We were really glad we went for the "all inclusive" package as this saved any problems on the boat geting bottled water and soft drinks. The weather was like a very nice hot day in the UK in summer with clear blue skies, but cold first thing in the morning. The "all inclusive package is still good value even if you are not someone who drinks alcholic drinks. We had a memorable holiday thank you.
we are booked on the MS mahrousa in september 2011 so i will see but it looks like the ship is what it says a 5 Star cruise
we are booked on to this ship in january 2012, and am glad to see s review from someone who has been there around the same time, we were a bit worried about the weather! but glad to see it was sunny

We Have Just Returned From A Weeks Trip On The Nil
We have just returned from a weeks trip on the nile.Amazing aboard the MS Mahrousa temp in august 54 and 40 in the shade.
If you are going to do this crusie you must go all inclusive as the amount of drink you will intake will cost a small fortune. All the trips where amazing ! you must make the effort and see Abu Simbel an early start but wow !!!
On board your guide will be Ambro what a gentleman and what knowledge of eygpt.Kath is the thomas cook rep and will always have time to chat and make sure your holiday is nothing short of spot on.
I can not fault this trip one bit and even though the stall owners can be a pain as long as you are with the guide you will be ok.
Every one you meet will ask for a tip even when they have done nothing ? beleive me they have more money than you think so just by saying no thank you ( most speak better english than us )will be anough.
When asked to bye something just keep moving they will pick on some one else ( and it was mostly me ).
This type of holiday is not for the beach party type you are there to understand a little more of the culture and history so even though it is all enclosive you do have an early morning start ( to keep out of the afternoon sun )3 x 6.00am 1 x 7.30am 1x3.15 am wake up calls so it would not be wise to get full of drink the night before !
The boat clean / food great / staff amazing /what more can one ask.I have read many reviews on this subject with alot of complaints like engine noise rubbish ! there wil be more from your car engine.
If you can afford it do it NOW!

We Recently Returned From Two Weeks In Egypt, The
We recently returned from two weeks in Egypt, the first of which was spent aboard the M/S Mahrousa, cruising down from Luxor to Aswan and back.
We enjoyed this trip very much. The ship is turned out in "Nubian" style decor which is very attractive and welcoming. Food, although slightly repetitive, was wholesome and plentiful, and service very good (buffet style for your meal but waiter service for the drinks, which were all inclusive).
We took in all the temples and tombs along the way - Luxor, Karnak, Edfu, Valley Of The Kings, etc. - which were very interesting and impressive. Apart from Abu Simbel, which was a coach trip of about 3 and a half hours each way, these excursions were included in the holiday cost.
Plenty of room on the upper deck for sunbathing as you bobbed along the river, and you could also watch the world go by on the banks of the Nile. Very busy boat traffic, a hive of activity! But there were no delays and everything went smoothly.
Our cabin was number 214 which was a good height above the water, so you still had views out of the cabin windows as you went along. To any prospective travellers we would say, book a cabin well above water level, even if it is at a slightly higher cost. The cabins were cleaned regularly, and our cabin boy Ahmed, made some very impressive and humorous "towel creations" using our glasses, hats, etc.!
This was our first cruise of any description and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Atmosphere was relaxed and friendly, no snobbery or stiff and starchy people, just ordinary average holidaymakers enjoying themselves.
There was some evening entertainment but plenty of room if you just wanted to sit quietly, play cards, etc.
Our second week in resort wasn't quite as enjoyable (see separate review) and we would have been happy to have ended the holiday "on a high" when we came off the Mahrousa. Highly recommended.
I found this review very helpful because...we have never been on a cruise and we dont know what to expect we are not sure of the the dress code so that would be nice if we could find out also weatheror not we could change money on board
I found this review very helpful because...we are going on board this cruise ship in june and we were a bit panicky of how we would approach the other guests and we were a bit concerned about the order of the day routine.this review has helped put us at ease .thanks
