Omega Rental Cars Queenstown

Awful experience. The car we hired was not at all road worthy for the Alpine roads that we used and so the rotars burned out first day causing us to have a traumatic experience with no brakes travelling down the remarkables. And to make matters worse when we arrived to omega to swap cars they were extremely rude and unprofessional. The manager herself told me that this happened regularly and because we were to drive the car in a lower gear... this information would have been handy when we first hired the car and so apparently according to her this was 99% our fault and that we didn't know how to drive, and that when we hire a car they assume that we know how to drive and that they don't give out driving lessons. Sorry but we didn't ask for driving lessons just a hot tip of driving in a low gear when travelling down the mountain because not everyone is used to driving down steep alpine mountains in cars that really aren't made for that journey. So we paid an extra 300 for a 4wd and luckily had no issues after that. It's really disappointing all they needed was a little more sympathy and a little less attitude and it wouldn't have been so horrible.

The customer service of this omega rentals is absolutely terrible. An oversight by the staff there meant I was not sent necessary contracts in time after NUMEROUS requests, and was made to pay $2000 in bond and charged an international transaction fee. The staff member who served me was disgraceful, saying it was not their problem, and could apparently guarantee that no requests were made even though I was sitting with my travel agent when they were. It then took them FOUR MORE DAYS to send the email through. Car was dirty, smelt and battery was almost flat so we struggled to start it on most days. After an anxious flight to Queenstown this was the worst welcome we could have received. I do not recommend this company when travelling to Queenstown.

I wouldn’t recommend this company. Staff were helpful on the phone but when I booked, I stated twice that I wanted a demonstration of putting on snow chains because each car is different + each chain is different. I have watched the snow chains video before arriving at the car rental company. When I requested help with the snow chains, they just showed me a video…Where’s the help in that? It was just 2 women serving us and they didn’t have a clue how to work it. They also had very limited knowledge about the car features. I asked and requested if they had an AUX system for our car, and they said no guarantees (ok fair enough) but not knowing what radio stations and if there are any inputs for the sound system is just terrible.

Pickup was great, you just call a toll free number and they come pick you up! Less than 5 min from the small Queenstown airport.

Good I knew about car mechanics, so I checked all engine oil + tyres + chains were all functioning before they handed me the car. Car ran well, ended up doing 1800km during the 12 days we used it for the snow and exploring Milford + Glaciers.

Quick and easy handover of car. The Toyota RAV4 given was a bit old, probably 8 years. Mileage clocked is approximately 119K km. Exterior paint was worn and needs a shine. Some paint chip off at some areas giving you an impression that car was not well maintained. So the car was not really value for money. Assurance on safely on driving in New Zealand was good.

Would have recommend to a friend if we were given a newer car to drive.

During a recent trip to Queenstown I rented a small 4 wheel drive SUV from Omega, as always the team were efficient and friendly, overall the car was really good, drove well and was in good condition.

Would definitely recommend them.

Our little Mazda was far from new but in very good order and suited us very well for running around Queenstown. service from Omega was very good.

Omega provided the vehicle we had discussed by email. It was in excellent condition and served us well during our week in the area. Staff catered to our special needs in a friendly, helpful and responsive manner. I will definitely continue to rent from Omega during future visits to NZ. I have been a satisfied customer for more than ten years.
