We Have Recently Returned From Aspro Spiti Apartme
We have recently returned from Aspro Spiti Apartments, after a two week stay there. What a WONDERFUL place! It is run exclusively by family members, which includes Grandparents, Cousins, Aunts and Uncles etc, even the children of the family helped out on occasion, with serving food or leading the dancing on their Greek Night (which was great by the way). The apartments are currently only open for three months of the year, from July to September, and can booked as a complete package holiday including flights and transfers from http://www.cosmos-holidays.co.uk/holidays for around £450.00 for 7 nights up to only £580.00 for 21 nights! The cooking facilities provided in the apartments are quite limited compared to English standards, just a small double hotplate and microwave oven, making cooking very difficult, but there is cooked food available on site, a well stocked supermarket right next door, and simply LOADS of good restaurants within a few minutes' walk, so you won't starve! If you book through Cosmos, you will get a visit from a holiday tour rep during your stay, and they will offer you several excursions at reasonable prices. I can thoroughly recommend both the three Island tour and the Greek Night at Zia, both were very enjoyable! Tigaki itself is good for families, and caters well for holiday makers generally. The beach is quite nice, although there was a bit of rubbish unfortunately, and be prepared to pay for the sun loungers on the beach too, at a cost of around '3.50 each per day! The sunsets however are STUNNING! There is a bus stop just outside the supermarket next door, where you can catch a bus into Kos town fairly cheaply, but be warned that the buses are ALWAYS jam packed with people, and sometimes they are so full that they simply drive past and you have to wait for the next one, so allow time for this probability! If you would prefer a taxi to take you somewhere, simply ask at the Aspro Spiti bar, and a family member will ring one for you. There is a lovely open air swimming pool with sun loungers, which is available between 9am and 6pm every day free of charge; our son literally LIVED in it from the time we arrived until the day we left! The apartments are provided with clean linen throughout the week, and the beds etc are made regularly for you, also by another family member! One thing you really do need to budget for however is the air conditioning, at a cost of '5.00 per day; it is an absolute must, as the heat can become quite overwhelming at times, and it is not included in the original cost of your holiday. You don't need to order it in advance, simple ask when you arrive at the Aspro Spiti Apartments, and they will give you a key to activate the air conditioning unit in your apartment. Aspro Spiti only accepts cash though, no cards. Another tip is to make sure you buy some electric plug-in mosquito repellent units from the supermarket next door as soon as you arrive and plug them in straight away; they are very cheap at only '3.00 to '5.00 depending upon which one you choose. I got bitten very badly in the first couple of days by mosquitoes, and got dreadfully sore and swollen ankles as a result, so I would say that mosquito repellents are a must also. English and German are spoken locally by just about everyone, or that's how it seemed, so being understood as you make your way around is no problem. We were made to feel like part of the Diakanastasis extended family, and there were tears all round, from both us and them when we had to leave! We would definitely recommend the Aspro Spiti Apartments to anyone, but especially families with younger children, as they are small and personal and take the trouble to get to know you and your family so you always feel as though your children are in safe hands there. We missed them as soon as we left, and want to return again as soon as we can. Do go, you will NOT be disappointed!
