Limenaria, Zako Apartments

Recently came back from staying at Zako apts near Limenaria - Aug 10. First of all the good points:

* near to Tripiti beach

* had the pool to ourselves most of the time (could be deemed as a bad point too as bit boring)

* free safety deposit box & air con included in price

* very peaceful location

Now the bad points: Very isolated location meaning you need a car to get into Limenaria or you have a long walk - essential to have a car if you have kids

* nowhere to buy water, bread, any supplies locally - no supermarket in locality

* bar does not open until 4.30pm at the earliest - until then you fend for yourselves

* apt very basic & not cleaned properly - went 5 days without towels or sheets changed & was constantly cleaning the floor as it was filthy

* electric works on a key which is welded to keyring - therefore unable to leave air con on whilst out which meant you come back to an oven. Also 2 bed apt is actually a 1 bed with 2 further beds in kitchen area & no air con in bedroom meaning was like a sweat box

* no food or snacks available except toasties, omelette or Greek salad when bar open - no ice creams in ice cream freezer by bar

* no English guests there at all - very lonely for our daughter as no kids to make friends with. All Eastern European or Greek.

* no weekly barbeque offered, despite being advertised on website, as we were the only English there & was told no-one else would come

In summary - in it's heydey I would imagine this was a thriving holiday destination, but now it is like a ghost town. It seems like the owners can no longer be bothered or have any interest. If you are happy to just rent an apartment with a pool & then get on with your holiday by yourselves then it's fine - but if are like us & expect a bit of music & some snacks & drinks round the pool in the day. And a basic mini market on site to get your essential groceries - then I'm afraid avoid it. Such a waste.With a bit of effort from the owners it could be fab.

zako villa is an absolutely perfect place for a quiet holiday but fun. clean rooms, beach just a few steps, garden and pool relaxing, very welcoming hosts. Thank to Themis and his family for a wonderful holiday!

Go try Zako Apartments at Limenaria for yourself . Many people who go just keep going. mum dad and the two boys have become my second family . the food all over the island is great but leave the choice to them. oh hope to see you there in june good luck. spent 9 wonderful years at zako . amazing family amazing place.

The apartments were quite adequate for our requirements, very comfortable and had a separate kitchen and bathroom. The beach was only a five minute walk away with a beach bar and sunbeds and umbrellas. The village of Limenaria was a 3k walk, and taxis were available in either direction. The staff at the Zako studios were extremely friendly and were run by a greek family and were always helpful. We enjoyed our stay in August and spent many hours by the pool.

The whole experience was brilliant. Zako Apartments is located 2 minutes from Tripyti beach which is beautiful and not over crowded. There is one small beach bar serving cold Mythos and a selection of food - what more could one ask for?! A 30 minute walk along the beach takes you to Limenaria where there is a good selection of eating places and small shops. A taxi home costs 5 euros. There are only 3 taxis on Thassos but they will book one for you and they are very reliable.

Zako apartments are very clean and well equipped - air conditioning is very effective and cheap. Bedding and towels are changed every few days.

The bar is such a good place to hang out. We stayed at Zako with a fabulous group of people and partied in the bar every night. The BBQ must not be missed the food is brilliant and the night was hilarious.

The staff will do anything and everything to ensure you have a good holiday. You will feel as though you have stayed with friends by the end of your holiday. We will be going back next year!

Nothing was too much trouble at the Zako Apartments and the owners were the perfect hosts.

Our apartment was clean and quiet. The pool was a good size and never busy. The local beach (Tripyti) was a 2 minute walk and really lovely. Close by were great taverna's with an excellent selection of local food on offer.

Limenaria is a 30 minute walk along the beach and is a nice lively place to spend an evening. A taxi home costs 5 euros.

BBQ on Monday nights at Zako's must not be missed - one of the funniest nights i have ever had!

We will definitely re visits and we never do that!!!

The whole family at the Zako Apartments in Thassos are friendly, and they will always go out of their way to help you enjoy your stay on this beautiful island.

No trouble getting taxi's back after eating out in Town for an opportunity to meet up with fellow guests at Themis's bar. Alright mate.

Car hire for a few days to explore the island is well worthwhile, although we invariably find ourselves back on Trypiti beach mid to late afternoon.

We will be back in 2007 - ninth time on Thassos - seventh time at Zako.

Bar snacks are available during the day at the apartments, and if you are a little fed up of eating too much in town, the snacks are a good alternative for a light meal. As for the Monday night BBQ - it's all been said - but whatever you do, do not miss it.

We have just come back from a two weeks stay at the Zako Apartments in Limenaria, and we have had a wonderful time! Firstly, I have to say that the apartments were basic in furnishings, but that did not matter one bit! They are run by a lovely family, and they could not do enough for us to make our stay there comfortable, relaxing and memorable. Although the rooms were basic, they were spotlessly clean, and towels and sheets were changed every 2 to 3 days (sheets were ironed), and the rooms were cleaned every day. There was a fantastic pool and children's pool, which again was spotlessly clean.

Monday night was BBQ night, and it is not too be missed! It is only a small apartment block (8 rooms) and we were all at the BBQ. We had lots of wonderful food, and Mama baked cakes and prepared salad, and the best Cheeps in Thassos (home made not oven stuff).

Limenaria was a good village, although nearly a town. We never had a bad meal while we were there. The beach by the village is very clean, but we also used Trypiti beach, which was a 5 minute walk from Zako. This was also clean with nice sunbeds and a small beach bar.

You may find you need to hire a car or scooter whilst you are there, as it is a bit far out if you want to explore (although bus stops outside).

We went on holiday as a group of 11 people. Ages from 3 to 63!! We all had a fantastic time at the Zako Apartments in Limenaria, Thassos. We have travelled to various locations in previous years, but none have come close to this holiday!! We made friends with the people who run the apartments, and nothing was too much trouble for them. BBQ night on Mondays is amazing - food - dancing & papa may play the Bazooki! (don't eat for the day before!!) One of the staff played in the pool with the kids and another gave expert swimming classes!!

One evening a storm was forecast. We walked into town for tea, but we struggled to get taxis for all of us back. One of the staff came out looking for us in his car, as he was anxious that we wouldn't make it back before the storm began. No one wanted to come back home. We will definitely be revisiting!!

Zako Apartments are clean & well Kept. They are situated close to beach and just outside town with plenty of good restuarants. Small bar on site where you can obtain a small selection of bar snacks which are prepared by Mama, Fantastic swimming pool & seperate pool for children. Barbeque on Monday night cooked by Papa, followed by party games then later Papa will play the bazouki.
