Dirty , Badly Managed And Not Worth The Journey.!!

Dirty , badly managed and not worth the journey.!!The food was very poor standard and restaurant staff looked dirty and unkempt, with unironed uniforms. Restaurant manager caused a very ugly scene to erupt between himself and a guest during dinner on our last night there. His customer service skills were a joke. This has been a fabulous hotel at one time but shame on you Shearings for allowing it to get in this state. Big changes needed, starting with new management who actually care.

i also wentto this hotel with shearings my room was disgusting mould on widow frames and in the shower ithe curtains andcarpet was threadbare onthe bed was what i would call old army blankets this was 3 years ago so it seems that nothing has changed shearings should be ashamed sending people to this hotel

I totally agree regarding your comments on valley of the rocks hotel. My friends and I have returned from a terrible weekend break and experienced everything you have written about it. In fact one of us spent the whole weekend without hot water and had to use the kettle in the room. I am still waiting for a reply to our complaint from shearings. The hotel should not be used in its present state. Not only did the hotel prove to be dirty and the food dreadful we also got left behind at the gateway terminal by a shearing coach and this added to even more stress. Wish we had never gone!!!

A Dirty Disgusting And Damp Room - Peeling Wallpap

A dirty disgusting and damp room - peeling wallpaper, rotting curtain linings and window frames, damp bedcovers, pillows stank of old swat, fungus climbing up walls, no central heating control (broken),bedside lamp not working, smelly and greasy inside shower cubicle.

Complaint to hotel produced answer - "well, you booked a standard room"

No refund or cancellation possible so we had to stick it out. Since return, emails and letter have only produced a bland reply stating that some refurbishment is going on in some hotels !

We will never, ever go on a Shearings holiday either in UK or abroad.

5 Days Fully Inclusive Holiday 26th October

5 days fully inclusive holiday 26th october 2009

What a privilege to stay in what was a very grand Edwardian hotel. Yes its granduer has faded a little but it is still an unforgettable experience !

The food choice and quality was very good, served by very polite and helpfull staff. In fact all the staff were very polite and helpfull. We booked a seaview and it was wonderfull to see the changing light on the cliffs nearby. The gardens are lovely with the finest example of a monkey puzzle tree I have ever seen. Overall it is fantastic value for money.

Valley Of Rocks Is A Lovely Hotel Rooms Could

Valley of Rocks is a lovely hotel

Rooms could do with some updating but overall a nice hotel

Very clean

Must have been fantastic when first built

Food was superb with lots of choices

Entertainment was good

I think this hotel would be unsuitable for young couples as most of the people were middle aged or over

only drawback for me was the steep banks to the shops

lovely location if you like to walk

Great excursions available

overall value for money

Stayed At The Valley Of Rocks Hotel For 1 Week.jus

Stayed at the Valley of Rocks Hotel for 1 week.Just returned.I required a gluten-wheat free diet.Excellent menu ,at least 5 choices of main courses for evening meal, with at least 2 the chef had told the waiter would be suitable for me. In fact each eve I was able to have something for all 3 courses. There was always ice cream as an option for pudding as well, and cheese with grapes.I took my own rice cakes, oat biscuits, and ryevita,Excellent choice for breakfast including kippers.I could choose exactly what I wanted,so I did not order sausages which contain wheat rusk,or bread, but had bacon, eggs, baked beans, tomatoes etc.

My Partner And I Are Soon Off For Our 4th Stay At

My partner and I are soon off for our 4th stay at the Valley of Rocks Hotel, Lynton. For the money it offers fantastic value. All I can say about the bad reviews is that if you want 5 star value then try paying 5 star prices!! It is in a great position especially if you like walking, which we do. We park the car and don't use it again until we go home. Try walking down into Lynmouth, some people must be too lazy to bother, but it is worth the effort, also into the Valley of Rocks and along by the river to Watersmeet. The pub in Lynton is a great village pub with excellent beer but it appears most people want everything on tap and aren't prepared to be adventurous - they could learn a thing or two from us pensioners!! Also the entertainment at the hotel is very good if you are ready to join in and just have some fun. We have travelled extensively both to Europe and further so we are no inexperienced tourists but we know a good thing when we find it.

This Is Obviously A Well Run Hotel And Some Of The

This is obviously a well run hotel and some of the comments appearing on this page were completely unfounded by us. Still, one can only assume that people who may be referred to as professional complainers only enter their comments on such a webiste.Lynton is clearly a quiet village and not the centre of the metropolis, you therefore have to accept it as such. Some people obviously expect four star service and surroundings whilst expecting to pay two star prices. We thoroughly enjoyed it and will return.

Have Just Had A Lovely Stay At The Valley Of Rocks

Have just had a lovely stay at the valley of rocks hotel. We had a very comfortable huge bedroom. Staff all very friendly, entertainment not bad. A shame about the grounds they could be stunning with a lot of care and attention, at present rather overgrown. The hotel is in a beautiful location with fantastic views of the sea from the back.

We Wanted A Weekend Away, And It Was The First Tim

We wanted a weekend away, and it was the first time on our own for many years. We were so looking forward to going to the Valley of Rocks Hotel in Devon, but we were sadly disappointed, as we found out that the Valley Of Rocks Hotel almost exclusively caters for the OAP market. We entered the hotel through the back entrance and immediately noticed the old musty smell of the place. Before we decided whether we would stay, we took a look at the room and thought that as a base it would be OK. The evening entertainment was bingo, TV theme quiz, that sort of thing. The food was basic, with a very limited choice.

The only thing to recommend this hotel is the view, if you get a room with a sea view. On reflection, there looked to be some nice little B&B's in the town, so we wished we had not decided to stay in this hotel. Definitely not worth the money.
