Bed Bugs

The worst hotel I have had the misfortune of stopping in.

The room was very dated with dirty cups and marked bed sheets. After 2 nights in this hell hole my husband and I had been bitten in excess of 150 times.

You had to look through the pile of plates to find a reasonably clean one in the canteen style restaurant.

Please think twice before booking.

Lounge And Dining Areas Cold

Being a dog owner myself we strongly disagree with dogs being allowed in the hotel totally UN hygienic.Lounge and dining areas cold although this did not prevent us from having a good time.

Awful

We stayed at this hotel for my birthday was really excited to be there, well all I can say is what a total disappointment when we got there, the room was disgusting cobwebs everywhere the mattress did not fit the bed there was a hole in the valance which had seen better days the window had not been cleaned in what looked like years! Then to top that all off the room was freezing we were told the heating came on at 8 o'clock at night so when trying to get showered to go out it was so cold!! Would never go back shocking is all I have to say

Minus One Star.

All revues are of a standard that have been ignored.

I would be suprised if the ' Hotel ' isn't closed on health & safety grounds very shortly, it does nothing for the reputation of Scarborough at home or abroad.

With jobs so pleantiful, and no improvement, time is running out, its a shame no one is listening.

Why Are So Many Things Wrong With This Place

the grand hotel in scarborough is one of the most spectacular buildings both inside and out unfortunatly some things leave a bit to be desired we stayed premier room and dinning great room with sea view and little balcony to sit out on, the dinning had quite a number of choises but was never hot infact most were nowhere near hot enough, more care could have made meals far more enjoyable bacon at breakfast was steamed in stucktogether lumps and not very appetising fried eggs mostly cold evening entertainment was good and thank goodness for a great weeks weather

bathroom ok except seeing as clientell are mostly middle aged upwards many people we spoke to were too frightened to get in the bath even for a shower because there are no grab rails this is a serious omishion and could be rectified at very little cost, the premier dinning room seemed short staffed only one person trying to cope with everyone but they all did their best most of the staff were very obliging the maintenance guy rigged us a great extention lead up for my wifes ventilator machine so many thanks to him I love the grand but the cold food was a big downer but need not have been with a bit more care. ah well at least the price was right .

This Is Value

I have stayed in the Grand in Scarborough twice, it is excellent value for money. My only criticisms are there is no Wi Fi connection in the rooms...even my Vodafone dongle wouldnt work in the room, Wi Fi is available in the main reception area but I had a problem finding a seat. This was a BIG no no for me as the purpose of my visit was business and needed access to the internet all evening and I didnt really want to sit in the reception area all evening. When I asked the reception if I could plug in my laptop somewhere to charge it the girl replied that there was no need to plug in as it was a Wi Fi connection..Lord help me I thought ! My room was very ok, a bit dated but ok, tea and coffee in the room which was nice, T V worked fine, cleanliness was good, the room was very cold though, reception staff I found to be a little abrupt but the staff in the bar were great, I spent a pleasant afernoon in the bar with its beautiful sea views and good coffee and cake at an excellent price. The buffet breakfast is very ok, eat as much as you like, very good I thought.

All in all this is a good value place to stay right in the centre of Scarborough, for those people here complaining bitterly about everything the Grand has to offer then I suggest to them to go and pay top dollar for another hotel, you get what you pay for, in my book the Grand is grand....but please please to those in management there...get internet access in the rooms, this is 2011 now.....bring the Grand into the the 21st century....also, turn up the heating, its cold in those rooms.

I Will Never Go Here Again

After spending over 3 hours driving to Scarborough, we thought we would stop at the Grand hotel and treat ourselves to a wonderful lunch of fish and chips, overlooking Scarborough Bay. It was the middle of the afternoon on a very hot day so we ordered drinks and food soon as we arrived. The service at the bar was very amature, as if the people hadn't worked there before or had any training on bar work. The person that served us couldn't find a clean glass and the bar area was clutted with dirty glasses and the tables and bar was sticky.

We sat for nearly 3 quarters of an hour for the food so I decided to get a second drink, only to be ignored by a member of the bar staff. I even tried to walk from one side of the bar to the other to try and get the member of staff's attention. My father then complained about the wait for food but when it came it was dreadful. I found the cutlery and one salt on a side table but the vinigar bottles were all empty. The fish was preformed and tasted disgusting. It was served with frozen chips and salad which had shriveled and dried. My mother's cheese and ham toastie was made from the thinnest bread I have ever seen and was made with only tinned ham, which was inedible. There was no possiblilty we could eat our meal. We all felt sick about the whole situation, along side with the terrible meal and service.

I would never in a million years, expect a quality of service be so low in such a beautiful old hotel. It is such a shame that the people who work there pull it down so much. I will never reccommend this place to anyone.

After A 5 And A Half Hour Drive, A Colleague And M

After a 5 and a half hour drive, a colleague and myself arrived, checked in, and went to our rooms, only to discover that we'd been put in tiny single rooms, instead of the double rooms that had been booked. Double checking the booking form twice, I decided to go down to reception and ask them to rectify the mistake. I'd paid for doubles, so wanted to stay in a double. The receptionist told us that there were no doubles, and we could either put up with the singles, or leave the hotel. At 9:30/ 10:00 in the evening, leaving was not really an option. Although pretty astounded at her attitude, I asked her to refund the difference between a single and a double, to which she refused. So I've booked a week in advance, had my room double booked, she won't refund me the difference, and keeps saying that we can deal with it or leave! In the morning I spoke to the general manager, who refunded me £20, although I still think I was short changed.

I had no sea view (in fact, I had no windows), a tiny, inflexible bed, and the pleasure of hearing every TV, running tap and toilet flush around me.

I will never stay at the hotel again, and will do everything I can to discourage others to stay there. Given that I travel a lot, all I want is a decent room, a comfortable bed, and friendly staff, and I got none of that. Shocking service and shocking accomodation.

20 June 2010 Just Returned From A Stay In The

20 June 2010

Just returned from a stay in the grand very disapointed with experience.

Was given a basement room with no window, spa bath did not work. The room was on the same floor as the kitchens and most days there was an awful smell coming from somewhere that was like blocked drains, when I asked to be moved to another room offering to pay extra was told no other rooms available, then overheard member of staff telling another guest that there was a room free!! Food was of poor standard and as we were the last sitting both at breakfast and dinner found that there was not always the same things available as earlier guests had been given or they had run out. Hotel very shabby, staff not that helpful and dining room down large flight of stairs and as vast number of guests were quite elderly it was very difficult to cope with the stairs even though there was one very small lift which would not have coped with all guests at each sittinhg. The hotel had a lovely terrace overlooking the sea, unfortunately spoilt by the fact there were so many seagulls you found it hard to find a seat that did not have their mess all over them, also the steps leading to the terrace I found rather dangerous and I am not elderly. While on the subject of riak assessment there were no grab rails in the bathroom and as the baths are very deep and large this I found to be dangerous as nothing to hold when in shower or getting in and out of bath. Certainly will not be staying at this hotel again and all the people on our coach were of the same opinion and many of the guests we spoke to during the week were of the same opinion. Grand Hotel lovely setting but well past it's sell by date.

Our 2 Night Stay At The Grand Hotel, Scarborough,

Our 2 night stay at The Grand Hotel, Scarborough, on 3rd and 4th June, was our first and last visit. Apart from the wonderful building and the initial welcome from reception staff The Grand Hotel is one of the worst hotels that my wife and I have ever stayed in. There was absolutely no management or supervision in the hotel and whilst the staff were generally friendly most had not been trained and, with few exceptions, were totally demotivated.

A member of the bar staff didn't know what house wine was available. Another said it wasn't his job to remove old notices when special offer drink hours changed on our second day. We couldn't open a tab to which to charge drinks for later payment. At meals in the Harbour Lights restaurant the most experienced members of staff (apparently) spent their time checking guests' room cards rather than supervising staff. The result was chaos.

The food in the hot and stuffy restaurant was appalling, the breakfasts being probably the worst I have ever experienced. The self-servery table was not replenished regularly enough with food or crockery. Breaded fried fish was available on our first night but there were no chips to go with it when we were in the restaurant at 7.00pm. Dry boiled and croquette potatoes were not appropriate substitutes. On our second morning we aborted a very long queue for breakfast in the Harbour Lights restaurant at 8.50 am and successfully tried again at 9.35am.

There was no "service" in the Harbour Lights restaurant. Staff were running around clearing tables and texting on their mobile phones. Coffee after "dinner" was not available in the restaurant but was available in the Empress Bar. However no seats were available in the bar or lounge areas and, instead, my wife and I went for a drink around the corner to The Royal Hotel which is now on the shortlist for our next visit to Scarborough. Much better! The Travelodge opposite The Grand is another alternative which would be better.

Before sampling the food at The Grand we had originally decided to eat at the hotel on the lunchtime of 4th June. Not surprisingly we chose to go to The Lord Rosebury, a Wetherspoons pub in the town with a good range of real ales (there were none at The Grand) and we had a better meal than we had at The Grand Hotel.

Our room was small and rather shabby. It didn't have a sea view but we had expected a double bed room rather than a bed room. A working extractor fan was needed in our shower room but the shower itself was good. In the morning the cleaners folded up the damp towels and shower mat that we had left hanging up (we had not needed them to be changed) resulting in damp towels when we returned later that day.

Without doubt The Grand Hotel is one of the worst hotels we have stayed in, and served the worst food. We shall not stay there again and we do not recommend the hotel to anyone.
