The Very Worst Hotel I Have Stayed At
The room was tired, dirty. our room had a cracked bath, the shower dripped constantly, mildew around the bath taps, tiles on the floor cracked and moved the toilet made a noise like a ships horn. We requested our room to be cleaned 3 times before anything was done, the furniture in the room was scratched, chipped, handles missing on furniture doors, TV did not work. carpet outside your door was loose and gathered and someone could trip on it. Bedroom Window filthy covered in Birds poo. Headboard rattled, We just wanted to leave, and a refund, instead we were told to sit in the lounge until the room was cleaned and offered a wine as compensation, or a free tea or coffee.

Bed Bugs !!!
What a shame ive stayed here loads of times but the bed was crawling with bed bugs it was horrendous and im still having nightmares now weeks later. The swimming pool was freezing and not very clean. The highchairs where filthy and had to ask it to be cleaned which came back still dirty. Dogs in hotel and random people using the pool. Would never want anyone to experience bed bugs please do not go anywhere near.

Worst Nights Sleep Ever!
The missus and I stayed at the Royal Hotel in Scarborough last year.
On arrival we were told that the suite we had booked wasn't available and were apparently upgraded.
The alternative was a good size and had a good view but did not have a jacuzzi bath which is what we had booked.
The place looked dated and tired, well in need of a refurb.
Problems started in the night. We got to sleep OK but were woken by noises, squeaky floorboards from above (we wondered if it was some sort of service area as the noise was almost constant) and a distant banging which I assume was a door somewhere.
We stayed for two nights with the second being no better than the first, I was so tired by this time that it was almost becoming surreal.
On checkout I was asked if I enjoyed my stay. I explained the situation but the person I was telling was plainly uninterested and it was like one zombie talking to another.
We had stayed in this hotel as a treat, we usually go camping. The only time I have slept as badly as this was when our tent blew down.

On First Entering The Hotel I Struggled With My Lu
On first entering the hotel I Struggled with my luggage and 2 children in tow. A member of staff in front of the two doors just watched and did not help as I struggled through the two sets of glass doors.
I then found out parking was a distance away and had to pay £6.50 per night
I finally got to my room after first booking in , which they gave me a double room instead of a family room . which they rectified, no apologies from the staff.(staff should go on greet and meet course they are so rude)(not the younger staff they were ok )
I got to my room which was not big enough for a family (my bedroom at home is bigger) did not even have a cot for my one year old until I rang reception.
don't know were they thought he'd sleep.
We booked for the christmas festivities so we could have a family christmas away. (wished i'd stayed at home)
Before we booked I rang the hotel to ask if there were other families with children.
I was told oh yes there are lots of families and plenty for the children to do, you will enjoy the Royal (What a joke)
We and only one other family was there and there was absolutely nothing for children or young adults to do.
In fact I would say 95% of guest were between 60 and 90 years of age.
The bar prices were out of this world, I thought I was in a London nightclub with 2 drinks nealy costing ten pounds.
The meals we had were just about ok but well below what we expected for what we had paid,
kind of what you would pay £3.95 in a cheap pub, although I will say the breakfast was good
There was a major smell of sewage in the entrance area which is off putting to say the least
Swimming pool area needs condemming looks like a dungeon area.
The whole hotel is in a shabby state and needs a complete overhaul.
My family christmas has been ruined thank to this hotel (nealy a thousand pounds lighter) It promised families galore with lots for kids to do WHAT A JOKE .
We left the hotel a day early, the receptionist asked why we were leaving I told her ther was nothing for us or the kids to do.
To which she replied (Oh ok then)
This just sumes up our christmas away at the Royal Scarborough
I SHALL NOT BE RETURNING

I would appreciate a response from the hotel manager

Positives The Younger Staff Where Full Of Cha
Positives
The younger staff where full of charm and positivity the older ones [however] seemed quite care-less and flippant (I was later to find that this was the mindset of the whole of Scarborough; with the elders). There was plenty of breakfast food and nicely prepared. Our room [502, the Gordon Suite] had a lovely view and we could go out on the veranda for a lovely view and a breath of fresh air. Our personal dining room and living quarters was very adequate and relaxing. My same sex partner didn't understand what the bags were for on the cistern All in all we had a lovely time.
Negatives
The hotel needed some TLC with its' dirty nets in the corridors. And the room we were staying in needed some repairs doing to the damp damaged wallpaper over the radiator, bath and trouser press. The swimming pool was being repaired which was acceptable as it was ready the next day. But the changing room lockers were rusty and had no keys. And the steam rooms had created a lot of damage to the building; quite frankly I think they should get rid of them, unless they can keep up with the damage that they cause. We did expect complimentary toothpaste and shaving gel which wasn't supplied. The bars expectations [dress and behaviour code] were too grand for the place and left it empty an unpopular. There was a wardrobe knob missing.

Stayed At The Royal Hotel Some Six Years Ago And H
stayed at the royal hotel some six years ago and had enjoyed the stay, returned in 2010 expecting another nice holiday only to be badly disappointed. the staff seem disinterested the hotel is now very shabby, and the food i can only describe as very average and overpriced, our room was of a poor standard, no hot water from either the sink or shower, the tv was old and only had six channels available, not even a news channel, and when i complained was told to put it in writing, I SHALL NOT BE STAYING AGAIN.
My Friend And I Booked 2 Rooms At The Royal Hotel
My friend and I booked 2 rooms at the Royal Hotel in Scarborough. I was given a room with a dirty bed and a uncleaned room. The whole hotel was grimy. The smell in the swimming pool area was revolting. There was no way that I could spend a night there, so the duty manager promised me a refund, subject to a £25 cancellation charge, each. This was on June 17th, 2008. This meant that I was due a refund of £113.60 pence. This hadn't been actioned when I received my credit card bill. so I called and left a message for him to call me as I was told he was the only one who could handle it. One week later, still no call from him. I called again today July 25th, to be told to leave him a message to call me back... I asked for the complaint telephone number instead. I ran this number twice for 5 mins and no-one answered. I finally looked up HQ on the net, called Sales & Marketing and sent them this review. I got a call on my ansaphone immediately and a cheque. However, I still feel that I should not have had £25 deducted each from the refund, because the place was so grimy, and if that's the best hotel Scarborough has to offer.....
We Stayed At The Royal Hotel In Scarborough Last W
We stayed at the Royal Hotel in Scarborough last weekend for 2 night's in a sea view room. It was more like a side view room, and the rooms were cold and shabby. We paid £890 for 2 nights for 2 adults and 2 children. Everything was extra, including the internet, so we had another £160 to pay on departure. Which, if it's is good quality, no body minds paying, but the hotel was shabby and cold, and the staff were not very helpful at all. They were more bothered about where the tips were, and they even discussed how much they got in front of guests.
On arrival they had a trainee receptionist (bless her), and I only presume it was a manager there to help her, and he basically ignored her so we were directed to the wrong rooms and not told about car parking, breakfast, or anything really. The porter was only interested in helping us when we were leaving, which said it all really.
It is a family tradition to have the weekend in The Royal once a year, but we will definitely not book again.
I want to email this complaint to the hotel, but I am not sure where it should go. If anyone can help me, please could you leave a comment?
Dear Reviewer,
I would like to talk to you about your experience at the Scarborough, Royal Hotel.
To explain: I am studying for a Master of Science in Marketing degree at Manchester Business School (UK) and currently working on my dissertation, which is about online reviews that have been written as a result of particularly bad service (not product!) experiences, e.g. during airline travel, hotel stays, car repair, etc.
I am looking for individuals who are willing to talk to me about these experiences and their reviews via Internet chat. The choice of the chat medium is up to you (AIM, Yahoo Messenger, Skype etc.). The interviews will take no more than one hour, and very likely less than that. We could arrange and/or split sessions at your convenience. Based on the analysis of the interviews, advice will be given to companies on how to improve customer service. Therefore, by contributing to my research YOU can help make the world a little bit better for service customers everywhere! As an added incentive for you to participate, I will do a raffle among the respondents. You will have the chance to win a $50 Amazon gift certificate!
Needless to say, all information provided by you would be treated confidentially and you anonymity will be guaranteed. To prove these claims I will gladly provide you with the contact details of my academic supervisor as well as a reference letter from my school.
Please contact me at your earliest convenience at [email protected] for further details and please include a link to your review in your response. Many thanks in advance!
Kind regards,
Marc Morian

I am sorry that on this occasion we did not deliver to your expectations whilst staying at The Royal Hotel. We do value your and all our guests’ constructive comments and observations.
With regard to your concerns about the cost of your stay, the reservation was actually made for 4 adults on a Dinner, Bed & Breakfast basis and did not specify that the booking was for two adults and two children. In the future you may find that a family room would be a more cost effective option for you.
Regarding your extra payment on departure, this relates to the a la carte supplements and beverages consumed by you during your stay, room service charge and the use of our optional Internet and email access facilities. All supplements are made clear and can be ordered by guests as they wish as an upgrade to the options booked.
We receive many positive comments about our friendly and efficient staff, our quality contemporary style rooms and the excellent cuisine we deliver, and which you have received on previous stays at our hotel.
We are sorry that on this occasion you did not enjoy your stay at The Royal Hotel, as the satisfaction of our guests is our number one priority and hope that in the future you will choose to stay with us again.
