User Reviews
We Were Lucky
Judging by the reviews of the other trips, we were lucky.
Everything was well organised, the coach was sooo comfortable, our drivers/guides, were great.
The trips around Switzerland were brilliant. The scenery was fantastic.
Our main hotel was clean & comfortable, the food was good (could've been better if Leger paid the hotel more).
The only thing that marred the whole trip was the hotel in France on our return trip. Over priced, poor service & rude staff.
We would've considered another Leger tour had it not been for other Leger customers horror stories and the reviews on social media.
The long days of travelling were made pleasant by the comfortable Luxuria coach & the efforts.
We were lucky!

Poor Experienced Not As Expected
Monets Garden Versailles Cheese and Calvados 13th may to 17th May 2024. We were initially surprise the that the feeder bus from our Sandbach pick-up was not a Executive Coach, but the drivers were great. The Hub24 was very crowded with nowhere to sit and because of the building work the toilets weren't where they should have been.
The ferry crossing was ok and we had a lovely meal on board. The journey to Rouen was over three hours with no comfort stop, made worse by the fact that the coach dropped us off 200 metres from the Hotel so we had to run to the toilets in the Hotel. There were quite a few elderly people and because there was no porterage they had to carry their bags etc across a busy road and and crazy cycle path where scooters hurtled passed at great speed. Added to that the lift was broken !!
The Hotel was clean and comfy and the staff were friendly and helpful, there were pizzas for and evening meal but these soon ran out. The continental breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice and include bacon and scrambled eggs. On the second evening we found multiple restaurants 10 minutes way on the Seine Promenade.
Unfortunately we didn't go to Versailles because we were unable to get the tickets to the Palace. It would have been helpful had we been told whilst still in the Uk when the drivers knew their schedule. However as the weather was terrible and the gardens flooded we were happy to spend the day exploring Rouen.
The other trips the Monets garden, and Lisieux were fabulous but we would have liked a little longer for for Lunch
During the return journey to the Calais the toilet stopped working because it ran out of water and flooded so nobody could us it. Once again there was no comfort stop, and we all just made it to the portaloos at passport control. The ferry crossing was great and it prepared us for the rest of the journey home.
We arrived at the crowded Hub 24 and again no seats available. The lady on the helpdesk was not very helpful and was extremely rude to the elderly gentleman Infront of us and very passive aggressive to us. We suggest that she would benefit from some customer care training.
Now the feeder bus home OMG !! after travelling for over three we had to ask for a comfort stop and we were told another half an hour. I tried the toilets which were disgusting and you could see the hear the contents sloshing around in the tank and the smell was horrific. Eventually we did arrive at a comfort stop and after the driver asked my wife if she "felt better now" in a loud voice Infront of all the coach. she replied 3 1/2 hours is too long and he replied " If I had my way it would have been longer "
We had another stop at Coventry for a driver change over. After a little wait the new driver arrived and was obviously angry as he threw the clipboard from the outside of the coach to his seat. There followed a heated exchange between the three drivers outside of the coach that lasted for about ten minutes while the passengers listened on in horror. Apparently the drivers hadn't left enough fuel on the coach for the new driver to get to Carlisle. Thankfully the rest of the journey to Sandbach was uneventful.
We would like to say that the Calf rests are unusable and the onboard TV choice was very limited. On the feeder coach home there was a handwritten notice at the front of the coach saying that " ANY food cannot be consumed " Is this a Leger rule ? I would also like to say that my wife was extremely embarrassed by the thoughtlessness of the driver who should again benefit from some customer care training.
Finally our drivers in France were great and its for them that we have given the third star rating
Good But Not Well Organised
You can’t predict the weather and that’s ok , our trip to Paris we hoped to go to the palace of Versailles , Paris by night , a nice included meal in a lovely restaurant. These were impacted by bad organisation by the company . We had a day out with a tour guide who was more interested in little children and dogs than the sights , and we were quite glad when it ended to be honest as was everyone else . Then after free time in Paris we were collected at 4 to go back to hotel for people to change before going out for our meal, I don’t feel this was necessary . Were were given an hour to change and back on bus to travel back into Paris where we got stuck in traffic as was a busy time of day , we were an hour late for our meal , the couch couldn't get near the restaurant so we had to walk up several streets with hills in the pouring rain (and my mother is disabled so struggled with this ) finally arriving for our meal which was cold but the wine softened the blow .we were meant to have Paris by night but due to the drivers taco meter it meant we had to go straight back to the hotel . The drivers where absolutely amazing and if it wasn’t for them I’d be writing a far worse review , they must have been so stressed out , some passengers were not at all happy and took it out on them when it wasn’t at all their faults . This trip and its itinerary and timings need to be reviewed . The following day was a trip to Versailles where we tried to book tickets online for the palace and couldn’t , queued while there to be told no tickets available , the only reason we went is because my 78 year old mother wanted to do this so we spent €35 to see the gardens which we had to hire a buggy at €42 due to her mobility .
Overall we had a relatively good time but only because of the drivers, they saved shearing this wknd . But it’s not fair on them to have to take the barrage of abuse because of bad planning .
Not As Good As Use To Be
The battlefield tours are very good and so are the excellent guides. But that’s where it ends unfortunately. Very expensive for a single person, can only just about afford to do one tour a year! No loyalty rewards for those that have travelled a lot with leger.
Also another annoying thing is when you go and try to ask a question to the battlefield guide you have to fight your way past the “battlefield guide groupies” who attach themselves to the guides like limpets for the duration of the tour!! It gets to the point where you just give up because you are too exhausted after trying to force bob and mary etc out the way! And sometimes the guides ignore you!
You also get the know-it-alls on some of these tours. They are the ones that think they know more than the guides but they don’t!.
Leger aren’t as good as they use to be. The level or service and standards have dropped but the prices have shot up!
For a 5 day battlefield tour it can cost up to £1,000 for a single person!! When I first started going with them over 10 years ago it was about £400. Shoes how much it has gone up. Stop 24 where the change over happens is like a geriatric cattle market sometimes. Quite hilarious watching the oldies panic and rush to get on their coach cause they think it will leave without them!!
The enjoyment of a Leger holiday has sadly disappeared unfortunately.
It’s about money now.
Lamentably Not Luxuria
Luitpold am see Hotel Germany 5-10th February 2024, very poor food in evenings, salty soup, indescribable third-rate chicken. Abrupt rude staff, Leger should review hotels unannounced, as they would certainly not serve this terrible food to reviewing staff.
Dining arrangements were chaotic, with nothing being done by Leger drivers.
This was not Luxury, and food-wise did not approach acceptable.
Luxuria coach was part full of clinically obese and part morbidly obese with over half coughing and bringing up what was seemingly the contents of their throats every few minutes. This was a most unedifying experience and given the ages and conditions of these travellers-face masks SHOULD have been OBLIGATORY.
We were subjected-for SIX DAYS-to the continuous -probably every two minutes-explosions from the throat, from a very large lady from Derbyshire-no tissues or handkerchief ever used.
A very large brother and sister couple, sat at the front of the coach and this-seemingly-tribute act to Jabba the Hutt, drew the attention of all by the brother bringing up the contents of his throat EVERY 5 minutes, and wiping on his arm, for SIX days, no tissues or handkerchiefs used. This was a hygiene disaster, and Leger should INSIST on masks because of the enclosed conditions and make-up/age/ mobility of passengers. If you are remotely affected by respiratory problems, do NOT travel by coach. This trip sounded and felt like a one-way trip to DIGNITAS.
Both Belgian airport hotels good, excellent food, drivers good, but should have taken control and sorted out Luitpold am see Hotel problems more effectively
How To Ruin Christmas In Tuscany
Every bit of this third-rate ‘holiday’ conveyed corner cutting and penny pinching. Not to mention the most surly, rude and unhelpful crew it has ever been my misfortune to encounter.
Even if there was room to list every miserable part of this ghastly experience, I really don't want to relive it. So here’s just a taster:
• A coach driver who bullied, swore and shouted abuse at a single female passenger, threatening to throw her off the coach at night in the dark in a strange country!
• A passenger (who paid extra for a front seat) had to stand her ground when she found that it had been given to the driver's mother!
• The driver announcing (not apologising) that our coach was on its last journey as it was no longer fit for service - this did not come as a surprise to any of us, given that most of the promised Silver Service features weren't working.
• The front door of the coach randomly opening whilst speeding along the motorway until the driver decided that the only way to stop it happening was to keep it locked. Apart from the obvious safety aspect, the strictly imposed 15 minute allowance for comfort breaks on a coach with only one working door and a large percentage of passengers with mobility issues was clearly unfeasible.
• A crew that were either woefully ill-informed about any of our destinations or just couldn't be bothered to share the information with us, but who nonetheless deemed it necessary to humiliate any passengers who had got lost or were late returning to the coach.
• A driver so arrogant and narcissistic that having heard that passengers had complained about the deplorable treatment of the young woman the day before, took to the microphone to ‘reprimand’ us all and assure us that complaining would have no effect as Leger wouldn’t take any action against “……their top drivers.” The contempt for passengers displayed by this crew was staggering.
As for the very basic hotel: grubby, shabby, inadequate, understaffed, cold, depressing - take your pick.
• I asked if the safe in my room could be reset and was told that none of the safes anywhere in the hotel, worked. This was untrue, as I later discovered that several people had a working safe.
• I had to sleep on a folded blanket because the springs in the cheap, elderly mattress were digging into me.
• The balcony door wouldn't close properly so my room was very cold – not to mention insecure.
• The few staff that were there did their best with limited resources, but the food lacked imagination - soup (made from last night's leftovers), unidentified meat, etc., I had to leave much of what was on offer because I can’t eat red meat, couldn’t get any reliable information about ingredients in the pasta or main course, and there were no alternative choices. One night my 'dinner' actually consisted of a lukewarm plain omelette, which was far from freshly cooked, followed by a satsuma! It would be funny if it wasn't so awful.
• There was no entertainment. No drinks were available outside of meal times (we had to go across the road to the local café to get a cup of tea or coffee).
I could go on but I'm boring myself now. Best advice is: give Leger a miss as in my experience, they couldn't run a bath.
Where Do I Begin! Solo Christmas In Tuscany 2023
Drivers were great drivers but useless as couriers / source of info. Actually, great at info - LACK OFF! So many times, situations happened with no explanation or logic.
Male driver needs reprogramming in handling difficult situations. Not to shout at customers or his co-driver who was his wife telling them to shut up when handling a difficult traveller situation! Unbelievable.
Coach (it's last venture outside of UK so we were told!) was tired and outdated. Appalling seats with no comfort at all. Squabs were lacking in padding! Clock that didn't work but fine if you added 15 minutes and subtracted 2 hours! Intermittently working 'sound system' which was distorted as not properly adjusted / balanced. Only 1 video shown during the whole holiday.
Hotel adequate but very tired and outdated, they did their best!
Food was nothing to write home about, but sufficient.
I could go on, but there's more to life!
Leger will definitely not be my first choice in the future. Very disappointed.
It was the customers / travellers that made it. We all made the best of a most joke-able situation.
I will be posting negative reviews on social media and other platforms in due course,
Not a 'happy bunny'.
Do Not Use
DO NOT BOOK
DO NOT BOOK. Formal complaint has been made. Waiting for response. Hotel was totally unacceptable. Situated on a dangerous, extremely noisy, fast road. Hotel was well below standard. No AC or fans. Coach was ok and drivers great but company just not professional.
Leger failed to book the correct amount of tickets for tours leaving people having paid and unable to go. Then expected to just wander around aimlessly. Cancelled multiple trips and tours last minute. Charged €60 pp for another tour which was only €16 on the ticket.
Totally unsuitable for older or immobile customers. The list is too long. Just do not use this company and book elsewhere.
Ignorant & Unhelpful Staff
Dredful driver/ tour manager. Rude from second we boarded coach. 2 ( large) male staff on coach, leaned over me at dinner while other members of trip where at same table insisting I "owed them money" even b4 trip went ahead.
My purse was taken NOT ONCE was I asked if I was ok or did I need assistance but all that was said was "you are last person I expecred to be tricked". Then I was told I owed £1.40 for alcohol that was been sold on coach
My reply was I have no cash....his reply "I have a card reader" durrrr Ive been deceived.
Tours that we paid for were DREDFUL. In Dublin O'Connell was bearly mentioned,Parnell was a sad man who had an affair, the GPO on O'Conell st was where "3 missguided men locked themselves in " WHAT THE HECK Im not Irish but I find this HIGHLY INSULTING
Dreadful staff a DISCRACE Awful staff, insulting information......constantly on the make.
We missed out Howth on the trip because he told everyone " there is nothing there but a rubbish Starbucks"......NOT TRUE. AND SO IT WENT ON......
AGAIN RUDE & UNHELPFUL to mountains of Mourne & back 22 Oct 2023.
I could add more . If more information needed please contact me.

Q&A
Can anyone please tell me where seats 11 and 12 are on the luxuria coach
Booked with Leger for picture book Italy needless to say I am very worried by the reviews I am reading, does anyone have anything good to say about this company?
Has anyone been on the "Ireland spectacular south west" with Ledger, flying to Cork. what was it like. We are thinking of going and would like to see some reviews...
We are thinking of booking the Austrian Lakes, Salzburg and Vienna tour for 2017. Has anyone experienced this tour? Is the Luxuria option worth the extra cost?
Hi
As an ex driver for Leger Holidays my wife and I as driver's did quite a few of these tours.
I can highly recommend this tour, the scenery etc is superb and won't be forgotten for years to come.
I can't comment on the new coaches as I have not seen one however as we used to drive the Silver Service vehicles I can tell you that to upgrade really has to be a personal thing.
Yes you get slightly more leg room, you get cheap headphones to listen to various cd's or dvd's, you get the lounge at the rear where you can go and sit for a drink and a chat but it is uncomfortable after a while.
One upside is you have less people compared to a standard vehicle.
After many years of working with Leger and talking to passengers many feel that the extra they paid was not really worth it.
But like I said it is a personal thing.
I am in Australia, coming to the UK in July/August this year for a visit. Part of the visit would be a tour to the WW1 battle fields and a stop at TYNE COT to pay our respects to the our relatives named on the memorial.
We looked at at Leger tours reviews, not too impressed, any recommendations?
You are right to avoid Leger Holidays. Useless company. All they care about is taking your money. Try Battlefieldtours.com or Newmarket Holidays. I wouldn't recommend Shearings either.
Good luck there are good companies out there. Just be wary.
