Just Don’t Bother
Paid £198 for the lucky dip flight, which wasn’t a lucky dip as you can effectively pick and choose where you wish to go, as long as it’s a cheap flight somewhere. Do people actually win those fancy holidays the adverts brag about?
We were given unfavourable flights to Milan which would mean we arrived late on day 1 and left early on day 3, so paid extra so we could make the most of the 2 nights there. We paid £278 in total.
The hotel (Eco hotel in Milan) was awful. No aircon, 101 Dalmatian bed sheets, funky smell in the room, to name just a few issues.
We have worked out what it would have cost if we booked everything individually, and we paid around £100 extra. The cheek of the company when they advised us a few weeks before the holiday that the flights had been cancelled. They provided us with a few alternative options, most of which meant we would be worse off with time in Milan and would have to pay them even more. There was no compensation offered to us despite having to change our flight and fly from a different airport which then incurred additional costs with parking the car for 2 nights.
Overall, if you want a holiday, book it yourself. You will save a lot of money and a lot of hassle.
Worst Company And Customer Service Ever
Tried to charge me the full price of a holiday eve though it was being cancelled within the 84 days in their T&Cs. Agents were rude and unhelpful and did not understand the law.
Would Not Recommended This Company, Unorganised, Shambles!
I would not recommend this company to anyone, we had so many issues from the start of this trip which caused a lot of stress and inconvenience, including additional fees we had to pay.
Firstly, when our confirmation was sent, the dates were incorrect, not sure why that detail had not been checked prior to it being sent to us, I spent a lot of time on the phone on numerous occasions trying to have this corrected. We were also supposed to receive all the documentation but this was never sent to us, instead we had to contact them to have this Information sent a day before, which left us little time to plan and prepare.
Additionally, the details provided at that time were incorrect and we had to contact them again several times to make sure we had the correct details. This had caused a lot of stress, and a lot of time spent trying to resolve the many issues faced.
Secondly, the transfers from Rotterdam to Amsterdam were not clear, as transfers are normally to the hotel but this was not explained to us clearly, due to this we had to purchase a hotel closer as it would have made it almost impossible to make it on time to attend the activities that we had booked. We had also asked if we could get a different hotel but we were told not, so we had to pay this from our own money. Further to this, you had stated that the hotel would be upgraded to a 4* hotel but the hotel that was booked for us was 3*, so we were given misleading information.
The stress that was caused almost led us to almost cancelling the whole trip and we did not know which other issues we might face.
Do Not Use Weekender Breaks!
First they tried to shun me by changing the 4 star hotel I paid for to a room in a HOSTEL with a shared bathroom, then were evasive when I challenged them. Now my flights have been cancelled one month before departure and they didn’t even tell me!! I contacted them and asked for a refund as I can no longer go on the holiday I paid for & they refused and said I can have a voucher! I’ve tried calling them and they always say the only person who can deal with my issue is busy!
Do not waste your money, this company is awful!!
More Expensive Than Booking Yourself
Sadly this holiday would have been cheaper if I'd booked it myself through the same airline and hotel. It cost me £388 altogether via Wowcher from Manchester to Prague. The exact same holiday would have cost me £360 if I'd booked it myself for the same dates.
Mystery
To be honest if I could give minus 1 star I would!!
Booked this break as a xmas present for my friend. We were away when someone telephoned to say we were going to Berlin. However, the dates she gave did not correspond with the dates I gave as available. She then gave me Milan. Thought perfect 4i hours somewhere we haven't been. She then asked me for £98 for transfers which I paid.
Upon receiving the travel documents there was no transfer voucher. After numerous emails asking for this I was told " the pay mentioned was for traveling to a regional airport". Asked for the call to be listened to. Was told they don't record all calls. Though it is what it is just go and enjoy the break. 12 days prior to departure I have still koto received the flight details to log in and sort seats etc. After a few emails to to person I'd dealt with before I telephoned to be told she is on holiday.
MY ADVICE IS DO NOT BOOK ONE OF THESE. WHAT A TOTAL SHAMBLES OF A COMPANY. TO DATE NO APOLOGY.
Mystery Holiday To Venice
Everything was going great, I was going to Venice and then the floods happened! The City is flooded, everything is reportedly closed but Weekender Breaks will not refund my trip and expect me to continue with the holiday or loose all my money. If I wanted a holiday to Atlantis I would have booked one but walking round a very wet city where the primary attractions are all closed because of the extreme high tides is pointless. I am disgusted that their lack of customer welfare expecting people to travel to a place which is still on a State emergency!
Avoid This Company, Especially Wowcher/groupon ’deals’
Just like most of you I got trapped by a Wowcher deal - I can’t believe this thing is still legal. What in earth are regulators doing! I went through about 20 reviews on here an they are all more or less identical. What are potential breaches:
1. Misleading advertising carried out by Groupon and Wowcher stating that it’s a ‘deal’ and we are making a ‘saving’ where in reality they just pick the cheapest hotels and flights plus add a 50%-100% profit margin and on you go to your bargain holiday
2. There’s definitely a Misrepresentation, defined as ‘The Misrepresentation Act exists to protect consumers from false or fraudulent claims that induce you into buying something or entering into a contract. It also allows you to claim damages.’ in consumer law
3. High pressure selling, which is also now illegal. Remember when those weekender breaks agents pushed you into getting that ‘other flight’ or ‘other destination’ for supplementary charge? Also trying to call at most inconvenient times, like during the office hours, to make sure we don’t think it through. Another one is saying that if I don’t agree now, I might not get such a good deal, which leaves me no time to check what is it I’m actually getting!
I never heared of the travel agents that tells you to Agree to their ‘deal’ before they disclose how awful that Super expensive hotel is going to be.
Anyway, I don’t believe I’ll get my money back, which is upsetting that in the modern day this is still happening but am going to take it to all institutions that I know deal with these kind of claims/complaints.
I’ve had this same exact experience you described, 6 years later after your review. I wonder why they are still getting way with this such act.
I was due to go to Venice this week and even though the place is still under state emergency Weekend breaks don't accept any reason for me cancelling. Modern day Pirates!
i have had the same experience, Booked a hotel next to the Vatican to discover its 2 miles away and I'm travelling with my disabled daughter. They didn't give a dam. I also had to confirm booking before discovering where hotel was
Avoid Groupon Deal!
Whilst I knew that buying a groupon was a risk I did not expect the break to cost me so much more than if I'd booked it myself. Ive just checked prices online and I could have booked the exact flight and hotel for £102 cheaper for the two of us. The groupon deal is clearly a scheme to fill low cost unwanted places, so then offering alternatives at more than the online price. I find it hard to comprehend that my groupon deal included flight and hotel, my upgrade flight cost £58 return; yet direct with Ryanair the flight is £49.99! What has happened to the flight within the groupon deal? Still a lesson learned, next time book it myself, that way I have freedom to choose exactly what suits my needs best.
Avoid Avoid Avoid
Found out within 24 hours that I wouldn't be able to fly at the time of the holiday and emailed them straight away, had a massive back and forth with them trying to get my money back and they were only offering £50 back from a £300+ spend. DO NOT use this company if you're booking ANYTHING as they charge extra for transfers and try to book you on excursions but charge you twice as much than if you booked it on your own. Absolutely livid at their customer service. Cannot stress how much I regret booking through them!
Q&A
I've just booked a holiday to the Christmas markets in Berlin and I am now only reading the reviews. What should I do ?
Has anyone successfully received a refund? I've had to pay a additional £170 on top of the groupon voucher for a trip to Italy - I'm currently trying to get a refund through my credit card under section 75 of the consumer credit act.
No I didn't. The credit card company refused my claim as the holiday voucher was booked and paid for through Groupon but my complaint was about the travel company. They believed that the holiday was accurately described by Groupon. I tried all ways to obtain a refund even complaining to ABTA but no luck. My trip to Rome was spoilt by this experience and the taxi from the airport that I paid extra for took hours to arrive, the hotel was miles away from the centre of Rome causing even more expense and the room was extremely noisy. I will never use Groupon or book this type of 'cheap' break again. I felt totally tricked.
I have just purchased through Groupon a trip for two to Venice for a Christmas present. I wish I had seen this site beforehand. I have already had to pay an extra £50 on top of the Groupon price. This made me wonder what the company I had booked with were like, so I checked out this site, I am now concerned that the break will not be what I had hoped for. I have seen that the recent reviews are all bad, has anyone used this company recently and has a positive review? Am I right to be worried about this trip instead of excited?
Same problem unfortunately. Still trying to solve it.I will make as many bad reviews of this company as much as I can.
