Reliable Free Trial But, After, Consistently Un-reliable.

It's easy to get sucked in and then feel mislead. I wasn't mislead on their not working Saturdays like most DVD rental stores do, I just hadn't researched that and so wasn't able to anticipate delays in turnaround from that! No, where I feel completely mislead is that the free trial period was 100% reliable, punctual and predictable enough to make plans around, whereas after that period the reverse was almost always the case.

I work late afternoons to late night and, during the free trial, I would watch my allocated '2 DVDs at a time' as soon as they arrived, then post for the late afternoon postbox collection, on my way to work. If I posted Monday I would always have new DVDs on Wednesday, and so on. Totally reliable. l planned around it a bit. When the trial ended, the service became stressfully unpredictable. Where during the trial I would consistently get up to 4 DVDs a week, after the trial I would rarely get more than 2 DVDs a week and was told by their email support that their packages usually take a few days to arrive. As I pointed out to them, the postage is First Class and it was always next day during the free trial, which in my case was longer than the 30 days one. Anyone else who sends me post first class, it almost always gets to me next day, or a day later at the very latest. Our postal service is almost always predictable.

Also, be aware that a lot of big box office hits are not available - though they are listed on Tesco's rental site. I'm not sure you have any way of knowing that is the case until you join and see there is no rent button to click on next to the movie. Roughly a fifth of the big box office comedies that I wanted to rent weren't available. This is a problem with I Love Film who supply the movies, though, rather than a problem with Tesco themselves.

In conclusion, if you go for the two movies at a time deal and you don't mind only getting just two DVDs a week at unpredictable times, you might be fine with this. I was very disappointed by the extreme inconsistency after a seductively reliable trial period, but I am sticking with Tesco, meantime, because occasionally I like to rent foreign movies and they have a great selection. I have had the occasional problem with a faulty DVD but, in those instances at least, Tesco's email fault service was fairly decent.

I want to update my review a little. It helps to have 20 or more titles in your queue, I found, though not by much. The after-trial service turnaround is still infuriatingly slow but that briefly changed over Christmas period when it went back to the speed of the trial period, i.e send the discs back on a monday, they get them Tuesday and send them out the same day and you get them Wednesday. I was astonished, in that you would expect Christmas holidays to be a busy time for them with legitimate delay excuses, but I suppose they don't want people cancelling their subscription over the Christmas period but instead want to encourage new family members. After that, I'm back to normal! in this case querying why their system hasn't acknowledged receipt of the DVDs that I sent back on Monday (today is Thursday). It will be interesting to see if they register one DVD as lost and the other received, as both were returned in the same envelope. Ugh, I find this stressful where it was supposed to be for pleasure.

Turnaround Of Dvds

I agree with the other contributors about the turnaround service of Tesco Rental. It's very poor, and as already said they tell you the disc is on the way but it isn't and then they blame the Royal Mail. Maybe I'll change to Blockbusters.

Doesn't Work As Discs Take Far Too Long To Arrive

When I first started the Tesco DVD rental service, the disc turnaround was brilliant. I would send the disca back and in two or three days get the next ones.

Things started to go wrong towards the end of last year (2010). I would get an email saying the discs were on their way and it would then take up to two weeks for them to arrive (even longer sometimes).

So many times I reported the discs lost, but they would eventually turn up.

I received an email saying the latest discs were on their way on Monday 22nd August for example. Still have not received them today (1st September)!!!

When you complain, Tesco always blame the postal service. However, last Wednesday (24th August), I ordered 4 things from ebay. They were all sent separately by 2nd class post and I got them all either Friday 26th or Saturday 27th.

I started to suspect that whilst Tesco's email says it has dispathed the discs to you, they haven't really.

Either way, I cancelled the service as it was a total waste of money. Cheaper to buy the discs really as I was getting to watch so few of them.

Beware though! I paid my last payment on the 25th August so still should get a month's viewing of 4 discs. The only way I can get more discs sent to me in this period is to re-activate the account!! So basically, they are getting a month's subscription and I'm getting nothing in return!! Not good!!

I've Been Using Tesco Dvd Rental For About 4 Years

I've been using Tesco DVD Rental for about 4 years, most of the time on the 2 disc unlimited plan. Turnaround is generally excellent - if I post a disc back on Monday, I'll have a new one on Wednesday. However, posting on Friday will mean a wait until Tuesday. Most discs are just about OK - I've had about 3 which were just unplayable and a couple of dozen which needed cleaning before they worked. I'd prefer it if you could prefer bluray and only have DVDs if there wasn't a bluray in their catalog, but it's not a massive problem.

I'd love to see them getting the other services which LoveFilm is now providing (online streaming) but unless I can easily export my queue, it seems like a lot of effort to change.

Really Poor Turn Around Of Dvds. Atm It's Taking 2

Really poor turn around of DVDs. ATM it's taking 2 weeks from me returning a disc to them despatching the next one - not including the time it takes to receive it. They blamer Royal Mail but I don't. Didn't have so many probs until I changed my subscription. 2 weeks into the month and have yet to receive even 1 of the 3 discs I've paid for. Not going to renew.

Too Many Faulty Dvds; Some Wouldn't Play At All Be

Too many faulty DVDs; some wouldn't play at all because of the scuffs and scratches on them.

DVDs often slow in arriving. Received very few that I really wanted. Some had been on my list for absolutely ages and I wondered if they actually had them in stock.

I Used To Be Quite Happy With My Service But Over

I used to be quite happy with my service but over the last year I find myself using my virgin media movies on demand as the movies on my want list just havent been released. This means I am paying twice. I find myself with about 1 in my rental queue and over 20 in my waiting list. I have had Public Enemies and Inglourious Basterds stuck on unavailable for longer than I can remember. I am starting to think that Love Film customers get dvds first and Tescos customers can wait. Time to move on!

Speedy Turnaround Of Discs, However Almost Every D

Speedy turnaround of discs, however almost every disc they sent was damaged and would not play properly. Some discs worse than others but most liberally finger-printed!

I Chose The Unlimited 3 Disc Option. Their Faq's S

I chose the unlimited 3 disc option. Their FAQ's say that with this option discs will be sent 1st class. Whilst this was the case at the start, they switched to 2nd class and the return envelope they sent me was also 2nd class meaning it took longer than a week to turn a disc around.

I questioned this, asking if they had changed their policy and just received a standard response saying:

"replacement titles are being dispatched within one working day of receiving your returns. It could be that there are delays in the time it takes discs to travel between us. Unfortunately we cannot control Royal Mail delivery time.

I asked the question again, and got no response at all. When companies don't answer a simple question, you know to keep well clear.
