Flooded Car

Initially my experience with Howe's Motors was seemingly pleasant, as a single woman buying a car is not easy and the process seemed simple (home delivery). After the wet weather came in realised I'd been sold a sieve. No bonding on the front and back windscreen, completely flooded the car which now has resulted in £7000 down the drain. I contacted them twice about this matter and funnily enough got ignored. Not a customer service I would personally recommend.

Poor Customer Service

Purchased my Defender in January and in less than a week noticed that a large number of the door and rear cross member bolts were starting to rust. When I raised this with the sales rep sending photos, I initially received no response and on following up several times, I eventually gave up. I purchased and replaced the bolts with stainless steel ones. Total cost of full set was approx £100 and I probably used less than half. I noticed that the original bolts had been ‘worked on’ by what appears to be steel brushing presumably to remove rust. I emailed Howes again to tell them that they would have been better off replacing the bolts instead of tarting up the original rusty ones - much cheaper and would have a happy customer too. I was asked to send them the invoice for the replacement bolts so they could refund me. I did that the same day. That was over a month ago and I’ve heard nothing since! Great service Howe Motors! It never ceases to amaze me how a company can get the easy things so badly wrong in their customer service leaving a bitter taste. What a shame, as I certainly couldn’t recommend them after that.

Good Honest Motor Dealers

I bought a nearly new Nissan Juke from Howe Motors. I had read the reviews on here and it seemed like Marmite some very bad, some very good. Overall my experience was a good one, the vehicle was priced well and the salesman, had arranged a small job under warranty with the main dealer before I collected the car. I was also given a decent price for my part ex car. Would certainly use this small independent garage again.

Used Twice And Will Use Them Again! 10/10

I’ve bought two cars from Howe Motors in Barry and will not hesitate in buying more from them. You are never pressured, always able to browse without being hassled by commission hungry salesman. If you ask about a vehicle you get the full history, vehicle specifics and plenty of time to test drive and inspect the vehicle properly. All the cars are presented to the highest standard and usually come with full dealer service history. Both of the vehicles I’ve bought from them have been flawless, and when one had a minor issue they bent over backwards to get it sorted for me the same day. Very highly recommended and professional motor dealers. 10 out of 10.

Car Lasted 10 Days

I was looking for a new car and the glossy website and pictures at Howe Motors impressed. I saw a car I really liked, took the drive over and viewed the car. I was initially impressed with the sales talk and banter with the salesman. I took the car for a limited test drive, I was happy. I paid the deposit and collected a week later once all the paper work was sorted.

10 days later on my way to a meeting with work, using my recently purchased vehicle and bang! The engine had blown, stranded at the side over the road I called the AA and had the vehicle towed straight back to Howe motors, they weren't the slightest bit interested and were more embarrassed that a vehicle was on the back of a low loader outside their garage. I was fobbed off, we'll have it fixed in a week, they assumed I knew nothing about cars. Well I do, I knew that the chain had slipped as the bloke from the AA put his code reader on the car "timing chain advance", if you don't know anything about cars basically that means the engine is now scrap. By now you are probably thinking this is some cheap run about, no no this was a top spec Audi bought from Howe Motors for £15k.

2 months of silence whilst I used their runabout diesel Avensis, which was a death trap I had enough and demanded my money back. Oh then they got in touch with me, "oh we can get you any car you want..." No thanks.

I don't blame Howe for the car blowing up a week or so later, this stuff happens but their after care was as you can gather.....crap.

What annoyed me the most is that the salesman, when I returned totally blanked me as if I didn't exist.

Overall; Sales yes, aftercare not at all

Restored Some Of My Faith In Car Dealership

My experience with Howe Motors was good.

The member of staff that dealt with my purchase was polite, fair, respectful, professional and had a good sense of humour. He made me feel relaxed & at ease, with plenty of re-assurances.He is a credit to Howe Motors.

I did do alot of research/checks about the company & of course the car that I was interested in.It gave me some confidence. Prior to my visit I set up the deal by phone before and stated that if everything went according to plan I would complete the transaction there & drive back with the new car.Howe Motors had the car MOT'd ,checked over and cleaned together with all the paper work provisionally set up.They were organised.

No pressure was put on me & the transaction was not rushed.I was offered a fair price for my car after a little friendly haggleing & my purchase price was reasonable although there was no movement on the asking price. The car ticked most if not all of my boxes which I had been monitoring for several months online. And for peace of mind I also purchased a year's RAC Platinum Warranty at a bargain cost price. The hour & a half trip eash way was worth it.

I would have no doubt in recommending Howe Motors following this experience. And like the dealership states -

"NICE PEOPLE TO DO BUSINESS WITH"

Friendly Service

We found the Nissan Micra convertible in auto trader so decided to take a trip to Barry to have a look, from the first minute we saw the car the service we received from one of the sales guys was fantastic. He sorted out cheap finance and the car was ready to be picked up after just a few days, the car has surpassed our expectations and the wife is now enjoying open air motoring. Thanks Howe motors we would certainly have no problem recommending you to anyone.

Truthful, Reliable And Fair

I drove over 150 miles from Kent to Cardiff to visit Howe motors to see a car that I had seen advertised.

I spoke with the sales team on numerous occasions asking loads of questions about the car before deciding to get up at 5.30am for the long drive to Wales. I couldn't help but think that this could be a long and wasted journey.

However, they were true to their word, all the MOT's, mileage, service history and condition of the car was spot on.

They were very helpful and friendly and I left thinking It was me who had got the best deal.

I would recommend them to anyone.

Yes, Dealers From Hell!

I saw the description of Dealers from Hell! on another review site & couldn't but agree! I've had varying experiences in over 40 years of driving, but never as bad as with Howe. I've been told that faults have not existed, faults have been ignored, resolved when they haven't, or just partially resolved. I had to chase, chase, chase, by telephone & email. They had the car on 3 occasions for a total of over 20 days, I totally lost confidence in the car & them & with faults still outstanding, consequently p/ex'd the car elsewhere. I only wish I'd read reviews beforehand!

Unfortunately I have to repeat the points already made as you have ignored or glossed over them, but I would suggest re-reading.

I told your salesman, at the time the deal was made, that the 2 part-ex vehicles had been remapped and we discussed at length the improvement in power and fuel consumption. I categorically told him that I would be remapping (thereby modifying) the E Class.

You say the problems were with the ECU due to remapping, but there was nothing wrong with the ECU and you’re just attempting to use that as an excuse.

The substantial problems were electrical, mechanical & bodywork - the fact is that you sold me a troublesome duff car and were given plenty of opportunity to provide 'fair & responsive customer service' – but failed to do so when you had the car for over 20 days!!

Yes, you have a reputation, & the dealer I went to, was professional enough not to directly comment.

Frankly, my experience with you was a nightmare, and I can not envisage any circumstance for further dealings.

HoweMotors

We were completely unaware you had had the car in question Re-Mapped. How you draw to the conclusion we did, is questionable. If you look at many reviews over the internet, and ask anyone driving a car which bares our logo, I'm sure you will understand that we are a widely respected dealership, who pride themselves with our after sale ethics. I'm sorry your ordeal didn't go how you planned, but rest assure that any warranty in the land would be void if you have purposely modified the car from factory specification, and as a result neither us nor the manufacture could be considered responsible for the failure of the part you chose to modify. We have been in business for 20 years, and still use the same trading name, and located on the same premises. We are not a "Fly by night" dealership, and as many other reviews state, we have excellent customer service. From time to time used cars can go wrong, its "nature of the beast" but we take many preventative measures as not to let this happen. By modifying your vehicle, these measures are simply taken out of our control, and put into yours. It maybe your view, but we also have the right to defend in what we pride ourselves with. To anyone reading this, please understand that, like any warranty, we are unable to warrant cars that have been modified from factory spec after purchase. Brissul, we would love the opportunity to prove our fair and responsive customer service to you if you ever need to change cars again, and after learning of our warranty policy regarding modifying a car within our warranty period, hopefully we would not have this situation again. Wish you all the best for the future, and again sorry you feel this purchase has left you with a sour taste. Hopefully this reply has answered some questions you may of had unanswered.

It is my view, Howe Motors, that you knew immediately who the author is!! I wonder why you responded only after almost 7 months!

The Mercedes garage was incorrect – the ECU had not failed. One of the promises you subsequently failed to keep was to arrange for an auto electrician to resolve the problems with the car and you lent me a car whilst purportedly arranging that. I became impatient after waiting another 2 weeks for that and for you to research a p/ex for the vehicle, deciding I wished no further involvement with you and went elsewhere.

You were aware the car had been re-mapped from the outset and tried/are trying to use that as an excuse. The problems were considerable – not only electrical but also mechanical & body work.

I quote from my March review - ‘I've been told that faults have not existed, faults have been ignored, resolved when they haven't, or just partially resolved. I had to chase, chase, chase, by telephone & email’.

My review was factual and correct concerning the description of Dealers from Hell!

HoweMotors

After careful research, we are now able to determine who the author of this review is. I would like to clarify that you had problems with your ECU after you had it modified and "re Mapped" it. Had you not modified the car, the problems you encountered would not of happened. I'm sorry your experience has left you with such negative views on us, however moving forward, do not modify your car from factory specifications if 1. You want to uphold your warranty 2. If you want your car to be as reliable as the manufacture intended. I would Like to point out that unfortunately, the customer who bought your part exchange also experienced an ECU Failure, due to the fact that yet again, you had modified it. The Mercedes Garage, where we paid to have your car diagnosed, before learning of your modification, said "they have never seen that ECU fail before". Had it not been modified, that car would still be serving you well today. We have been in business, on the same premises for over 20 years, with literally 1000's of happy customers, who feel the same about us as many of the positive reviews on here.
