Beware The Fees!
There is a cancellation fee charged by Collingwood, the intermediary which will be charged if you cancel the policy. You have to cancel the policy if and when the student passes. I called and it was not made clear that the policy couldn't just lapse. So in effect, when you pass they change you £40 for the privilege, and if this in in the last few months of the policy, they also keep 100% of the premium. When asked for a breakdown of how the £40 they are charging is made up to cover the costs, the advisor refused to provide one. They state everything is clear - just look around for reviews, which, by their number clearly show this is not true.
Large Undisclosed Fee For Passing And No Refund I.
Large undisclosed fee for passing and no refund I. Last few mo the of the plan.
Look For Fairer Learner Ins
I would look for fairer learner insurance!!! Took out learner insurance for my son. He passed 9.5 months into the insurance which then became void as he was no longer a learner as he successfully passed his driving test. Cause for celebration.. But not only did Collingwood keep the remaining months premiums!!! Bearing in mind you have no choice but to cancel the insurance (one of their advisors told me it was illegal to keep it in place) they then charge you £40 cancellation fee for doing so!!!! As if these young drivers don't have enough to pay out on car insurance once passed... and customer service is shocking!

Rip Off Cancellation Fees
Please be aware this company has some very poor practices, their customer services is awful and if you cancel the policy once you've passed your test they pay the absolute minimum is refund and reduce the refund amount by slapping on a fixed cancellation fee regardless of how long there is left on the policy (mine was 18 days left before they cancelled the policy because my son had passed his test). Also, they're not registered wit the UK's FCA they are register with the Financial Service Commission in Gibraltar (good luck with pursuing a complaint with them!).

Don't Fall For It
I have given one star as I can not give none. Apparently if you cancel your insurance early you get charged a fee for it. I got a text message saying I had to contact recoveries because of a shortfall on the premium when I had paid in full and cancelled with a month left. Seems like a way to make more money out of young people to me. It's in your T&C's so beware people. What a nice way to celebrate passing your test!

Do Not Use.
As so many others have found , all is fine untill you pass your test and have to cancel the policy and far from receiving the expected refund you get hit with a charge. They are impossible to reason with. They are adamant that these charges are clear at policy start but they are not!! They simply hide behind small print and BS. An utterly reprehensible company , DO NOT USE!!

Absolute Do Not Use This Company
Took out an insurance policy for my daughter - paid in full - she passed 8 months later - her reward rather than a refund was to charge me an extra £35 admin fee to cancel the refund and no refund of the policy premium
Absolute rubbish, I discussed this when buying the premium and was told I would not get a full refund of when she passed but a percentage- they are now saying as I’ve used 2 3rds of the policy rather than a 33% refund I will get a 10% and a £36 charge meaning I owe them £17
My advice do not use this company !!!!!!!!!

Additional Fees
A warning to anyone looking at this company, I have just tried to change vehicle registration on an existing policy. I got a quote from there online at £255 which is cheaper than the existing car policy £300. They insisted to change the vehicle over I need to pay an additional £30. I explained that I had a live quote and it is cheaper but the only solution was to cancel the existing policy with a final cancellation fee of £60 administration or pay the £30 admin.
I have paid the £30 admin fee as the cheaper option but absolutely appalled by the attitude - not only is this for young drivers but we are in the height of the coronavirus and they really did not care less.
Bad uncaring attitude - definitely not recommending them
Q&A
Has anyone revived hassle for going over the speed limit a couple of times?
How long does it take for the car that I've insured to come up on the MID database?
Can your monthly premium go up if they think you are driving "unsafe"? I hold a full license and fully comp with this company and just wondered.
I can't find my policy. What should I do?
Is this insurance just for provisional users ?
My son is 17 with a provisional licence. The option offers short term or a yearly policy. Not sure which one would be best for him. Could you please advise? Thank you.
