Dangerous Car Delivered

I purchased a car online for my daughters first car . Salesman was very helpful. Once I paid for the car things changed.

The car was delivered with two large scratches which hadn't been shown in photos , video or description despite asking the salesman if there were any marks on the car. I was told there were none.

The V5 never arrived , I had to chase it twice over a matter of weeks.

The car was delivered with a broken spring which I was told was wear and tear so not covered by warranty.

The car had a rotten exhaust which started blowing in a week, despite being told by salesman the exhaust was good and would last for years.i was told this wasn't covered by warranty.

Worst of all, the rear brake adjusters were seized solid which would suggest the brakes hadn't been inspected before sale. Dangerous!

My emails about brakes were ignored , no reply at all from service or sales manager .

I feel I was sold a car with suspension and brake issues for my daughters first car ! Dangerous ! Avoid!

Time Wasters

On the 31 May I set off to Evans Hashaw York to look for a new car, on route I looked on the website and saw a car at Gainsborough Evans Halshaw that I liked the look of. Having a look around York we asked if they had anything similar. They didn’t and so we mentioned going to Gainsborough for it but were told that it could be transferred to York for £99 and that York do better point checks than Gainsborough would as they had higher standards. Why does Evans Halshaw allow this to happen, it seemed a bit bizarre as they are the same company and surely run from the same checks. However we were told york is a more affluent area than Gainsborough and so the standard is higher. Couldn’t quite believe what I was hearing. However I paid £99 for the transfer as York is closer to us than Gainsborough and was told it should be with them by Monday, and then they would do their checks, two weeks at the most before it could be released to me.

One week later I called for an update the car was still at Gainsborough, 2 weeks later it had arrived that day but with 2 dents in the doors and front grills that needed to be ordered and replaced. At no point in the advertisement or when asking for the transfer were we made aware of this, the car had only done 7000 miles.

Why did Gainsborough take 2 weeks to check the car then send it substandard. Why do Evans Halshaw allow this? As it would seem the York branch was well aware this does happen. So I was supposed to wait again for parts and fitting. At this point I lost faith in the company altogether and bought a car elsewhere that have standards across their sites and advertise appropriately, I think I had a lucky escape.

Poor Support

Often the quality of a company is only on display when an issue arises, Salesmen very kind and polite when selling but uncaring and uncompromising if any issues arise.

We purchased a larger car after the birth of our first child. Informed that the turbo had been replaced after purchasing so was really disappointed when issues arose a few months after buying with engine management lights which were according to a Seat specialist, likely linked to the turbo. The car also failed the MOT emissions test also after the first year.l, an issue I've never experienced.

Contacted the branch we used and tried going through complaints as we were told initially there would be a warranty of 12 months for the replacement turbo. However, although the new turbo has collapsed after only 1 year and 9000 miles, no apology or offer of any kind to help rectify the issue. Told that someone would call back a few times and I naively waited and expected a call before having to call back to try and sort out.

The seat specialist we spoke to were very surprised to hear a warranty of only 12 months for a new turbo and it makes you question the quality of the work completed.

Both cars I've purchased in my life have been from Evans Halshaw but won't be using them in the future if this isn't rectified. I plan on going back through complaints to say that the issue hasn't been resolved through the local dealership we used to buy the car, but not holding my breath for any sort of support or apology but this is a lesson learned the hard way.

Sloppy

Phoned to arrange a viewing of a near on £30k vehicle at a certain time. Got requested to ask for a certain guy on arrival.

We arrived on time. Wasn’t greeted by anyone on arrival. Wandered around the showroom and by chance bumped into the guy we’d been told to ask for.

The guy was the scruffiest salesman I think I’d ever seen. Trousers never seen an iron and his shirt was filthy. He went looking for the keys of the car we’d made an appointment for and after 10 minutes came to us. He led us to the front of the showroom, blipped the remote and said ‘it’s over there’.

The car was so packed in we could hardly open the drivers door to get in. On the drivers seat in plain view were lots of receipts with all of the previous owners details on.

We got a very bad feeling about the car and the company and left spending no more than 2 minutes looking at the car.

Avoid This Company. The Warranty Is A Sham - Both

Avoid this company. The warranty is a sham - both the 3 month and the extended. after 4 weeks of having the car the handbrake was completely ineffective, had to leave the car in gear. Brakes were also bad. Called them and told them - their response "not covered in the warranty". Just 4 weeks after purchasing! Had a mechanic look and he said the car should not have been sold in that state and that the car is a safety concern. He advised me not to drive the car as the rear brakes were siezed on. Upon learning this, the sunderland branch remain with the "not covered by warranty" jargon. Problem is, if you dig a little deeper they state in documents and on their website that the braking system is indeed covered. you would be better off buying a car from a foreign country with no m. O. T and 0 warranty then spending your hard earned cash with these clowns.  they state they perform a 102 point check of which the braking system is a part of - yet 4 weeks later all manner of problems arise. avoid at all costs and make sure you get a good lawyer that can navigate the sales of goods act for you so that you can sue them in all their glory for breaching contract. please reconsider before giving this company any money.

It’s A 0 From Me For Customer Service

So this is my second bad experience at an Evans halshaw branch this time I bought this 2014 BMW in December for just under £16000 and this is how the car has come to me and I'm absolutely disgusted I was told the scratches on the paintwork would be machine polished out the car would be valeted and the plastic air filter cover would be looked at to see why it was rattling none of this was done the rear tyres were an advisory on the MOT and now are completely worn on the inner edges so need replacing it only had one key this company is a disgrace I never received any updates after I was accepted for the finance and when I wasn’t interested in any of their add on sales ( warranty, paint protection etc ) the customer service went out the window I had to do all the chasing to get updates on what was happening again it's just one of these big companies only interested in the sales and not the customer service very disappointed please avoid

I also find it really sad and desperate that they have to get their staff to put fake reviews on google to try to get rid of the bad reviews showing up

UPDATE, I have been offered a 50/50 split on new rear tyres and a valet which I had done at my own cost including a full machine polish just after I purchased the car as when I phoned to complain about the car I was told not to take the car back at the time as the company they were using for valets weren’t very good so I had it done by a reputable company I have turned these down as all of the issues should have been done before I collected the car

Toked My Citroen C4 Cactus In Kettering Branch Whe

Toked my Citroen C4 Cactus in Kettering branch where i’ve been overcharged for a major service by £110 compared to other Evans Halsaw locations. I've been charged £375 where the other 2 locations quote me just £265 for same plan.

Spoked with the branch manager, that didn’t offered any explanation or any inters in sorting out this issue. I've spoked with him about evans halsaw price back promise but he said is referring just to used cars and not to service plans(even if on website is saying that is also available on any repair/service).

My front tyre been replaced with a Nexen cheap tyre but been charged for a premium tyre(£95)

Complained all of this to the branch manager but he was trying to get rid of me instead of trying to sort my issue out.

Been to Kettering branch just because my 2018 car was bought from his branch couple of months back and was making a noise from the driver front side since i’ve bought it from them and been promised this will get fixed under extended warranty after it been with them service 2 times before and failed to be fixed.

Will never use Evans Halsaw Kettering again and i am looking to escalate my complain with Resolver, Evans Halsaw customer support head office and trading standards since the unit manager was not even trying to deal with my complain
