They Are Good But Not Great.

I initially wanted to buy them for the gym but they are not that comfortable in grip and size. I still use them for my TV and laptop but I bought another one for the gym.

It works great as long as your not running.

Good For Me

Bought these for my elderly mother who was really quite deaf and had the T.V. volume so loud nearly deafend the rest of us

It was a new lease of life for her she could now hear what was being said on her soaps. After she died last year we were clearing the house and I thought too good to throw out now when hubby goes to bed I can sit and watch my soaps no more thumping the floor to turn down the sound thanks for my inheritance mother the're great !

Wouldn't do for classical music but for general use great.

Great For Tv Watching - And Good Functionality

This set is underrated - in many ways.

Okay, - I can say one thing that's "wrong" with them - it's only

FM audio quality.

And there is a low noice in the background, if you turn the

volume above medium (that's loud!)

But -

They are very stable - and in high quality.

Mine are over 8 years old, and used every week !

They only use a little bit of power - maybe one AAA alkaline per 50 hours.

There is NO clicks, spikes or interrupting noise like with most other

sets, because of the IR technology. Clear and clean FM through put.

You don't get 'hot ears', or claustrophobic , when you wear them.

Therefore , they are very useful in front of the TV - all night long,

and compared to the TV speaker quality today (16:9 tv's), they

are much better.

I Bought A Pair - The Background Hiss Was Louder T

I bought a pair - the background hiss was louder than the tv show I was watching.

I returned them and thE shop assistant said he only had one other pair returned with this problem, so I decided to swaP my dud pair for a new set. WRoNG!

Got hOme and had exactly the same problem. These headphones are an unusable DUD. You can even plug in a long chord to use them.

Don't buy these without testing them in the shop.

would appreciate being able to purchase the foam pads and headphones without the remainder of the set, as we have been using them for years have a stockpile of unused transmitters. I am deaf and have found them great.

Sony Mdr-if140k Infra Red Headphones And Transmitt

Sony MDR-IF140K infra red headphones and transmitter

These headphones are sold with the claim that they are able to reproduce hi-fi quality sound, suitable for use when listening to music or watching TV.

I purchased two sets of these headphones, one for myself, the other for my wife to use with our internet based TV viewing, terrestrial TV viewing and listening to music. Unfortunately I bought them before reading the previous reviews here. As with others I thought Sony would be a good brand - oh how wrong I am.

The set up is easy to follow with clear text (allowing for a few grammatical errors) and the diagrams clear.

The overall build quality is poor for a Sony device.

Once set up as described in the manual sound quality was terrible. There was a persistent and intrusive sizzling sound despite being well within the range of the IR transmitter and the headphones. I performed all of the troubleshooting tips advised in the manual, but without any increase in sound quality.

Overall these a a cheap product, made cheaply, which don't work to any reasonable standard. I got better performance from a free pair of plug in ear buds supplied on my last flight!

DON'T BUY THESE.

The Sound Quality Is Great If You Are 4 Feet Away

The sound quality is great if you are 4 feet away and in a neck brace! because the slightest movement causes an annoying hissing sound, the build quality is what I'd describe as "fragile". Avoid these!

We all know Sony normally make good quality kit, unfortunately they have fallen well short of even achieving semi reasonable.

In 3 words- cheap and nasty.

PS No F****** thanks to the snotty staff at Bennett's electrical in Gt Yarmouth whom tried to tell me I couldn't return them....what a load of tosh!

My Reason For Purchasing The Sony Mdr-if140k Wirel

My reason for purchasing the Sony MDR-IF140k wireless headphones was so that I could listen to music at work without distraction from or distracting others, and so that I would not constantly catch on a lead which we all know can be quite painful on the ears.

I was a little reluctant to spend £30 on a pair of headphones but I felt that they would be worth the money if they gave me what I needed.

The product consists of two main items. Firstly there is a transmitter box that plugs in to a normal headphone jack and that is powered by a mains lead. Secondly there is the set of headphones itself which are powered by a single AAA battery. Setting up is easy enough, although I found with my PC under my desk the length of the lead that connects the headphone socket and the transmitter box was not quite long enough to position the transmitter in a preferred location. Still, I could place the transmitter in a good enough location.

I found using these headphones over the past year very convenient, with the signal hardly ever interrupted. Usually it was only interrupted if I was a few metres or more away and someone got between myself and the transmitter box. My expenses paid out on batteries have been far less than I expected so that was a nice plus point.

Just recently they seem to be breaking down on me. I'll have my own fun taking them apart to see if I can fix them but it is disappointing for me that a product from such a reputable company has only lasted well for twelve months.

Tips on battery life: Make the device that is the source of the signal (PC, TV, stereo, whatever) do the work. Crank the volume up on the source device so that the volume on the headphones can be kept quite low. The headphones have less amplification to do and the batteries get to last much longer.

All in all this would be an excellent product if it lasted well for at least two if not three years. Only being reliable for one year begs the question of whether they are good enough value for money. Certainly while they are in working order they are excellent.
