The Food Here Was Terrible, The Worst Example We K

The food here was terrible, the worst example we know of Brakes or Food Service or 3663 portion-controlled frozen industrial rubbish, microwaved by a technician. The children had pizzas and even they complained that the pastry was soggy and the pizzas unappetising. The food was served on cold plates. My wife had a cauliflower and stilton soup that was tepid and she had a bad tummy the next morning. My steak was flavourless. As we left we saw pizzas sitting on the counter, getting cold, right in a public area where people could cough and sneeze over them. They got the bill wrong. Service was friendly enough and efficient but we will NEVER recommend this place to anybody. If you want Italian food go to a proper Italian restaurant not a themed former pub.

Went To La Scala As Part Of A Large Party. Had Ex

Went to La Scala as part of a large party. Had expected reasonably ok Italian food, based on the reputation of Papa Luigi's, the other restaurant belonging to the owner. Nothing authentic about the Italian dishes - edible, but about as close to Italy as a Tesco's ready meal. The major let down was the Sunday roast. Apparently bought-in and reheated ready sliced meat which would have been at home in a school canteen, soggy overcooked roast potatoes, bland but salty gloop for gravy. They completely forgot to serve pudding to about four of us, even after a couple of reminders. No adjustment to the bill to reflect lack of puddings - not sure they actually even realised it. Service brisk to the point of rushing the customers (the place was not busy at all, maybe a quarter full) and devoid of charm.

Informative, succinct review that tells me all I need to know.... By the way, I've had a very similar experience in this restaurant's "sister" place, Papa Luigis.

I Visited As Part Of A Party Of Two Couples One Sa

I visited as part of a party of two couples one Saturday night. Perfect environment for gossiping and relaxing, the service was not intrusive and our waitress was responsive to our needs all evening, having to revisit our table for the food order twice, as the vast choice made it difficult to decide. The starters were sumptuous and plentiful and the waitress gave us a few minutes grace in between courses at our request. All of us chose steak as a main course and all of us were extremely happy, the meat was cooked perfectly and the steaks were each a decent size. It was one of the best steaks I've ever had and along with the chips which were delicious and home made, one of the nicest local meals I've had in a very long time. I will certainly be re-visiting this restaurant and would have no hesitation in recommending it.

Nice Atmosphere And Decor. The Staff Was Friendly

Nice atmosphere and decor. The staff was friendly and the food was excellent and at a very reasonable price. The food was complimented by a fine selections of wines, which we probably enjoyed too much! Would recommend to anybody and will be going back in the future. The best italian I have had in a long time. Overall Excellent.

Surroundings Are Superb (newly Decorated?) Bar Are

Surroundings are superb (Newly decorated?) Bar area good where we enjoyed a lovely pre dinner round of drinks. Shown to nice table in lovely restaurant area. Starters good served with garlic bread with cheese and mushrooms (Delicious! Almost a meal in itself!) Mains were very nice, 1 chicken, 1 steak (Our friend stated it was the best she had EVER had!) 1 pasta and 1 pizza. All thoroughly enjoyed and washed down with a bottle of the house red. My wife and her friends husband ordered from the 3 course special at £9.95 which was excellent value. Total bill came to less than £70!! Already booked to go back for my daughters birthday

Our Meal Was Not Enjoyable From Start To Finish.

Our meal was not enjoyable from start to finish. It seemed as though the waiter was in such a hurry we thought he wanted to finish early. I thought the main course portion was really small I would not have liked to see the starter portion. After waiting for ages to pay I had to go and get a member of staff which turned out to be the same waiter who served us earlier, he seemed rude to me when I wanted to complain.

For Starters We Decided Just To Share A Garlic Bre

For starters we decided just to share a garlic bread between my partner and myself. Very nice it was too, however the waitress came and took the plate it was served on whilst we were still still eating from our side plates. The same waitress later took my partners empty glass without asking if he would like another drink.

Moving on to the main course; we both ordered Fillet steak, mine cooked medium/rare and my partners medium/well done. The steaks were quite small to say they were £16.50! We were given a plate of vegetables (cauliflower, broccoli and red cabbage) and some new potatoes cut into slices. Unfortunatley they weren't very hot and they were incredibly hard.

My partners steak was cooked perfectly however mine was was by no means medium rare!

It is sadly my nature not to complain, as I don't wish to cause a scene nor sit waiting while an alternative is cooked. At no point while we were eating did anyone come and ask if everything was ok. When we had finished, a member of staff came to clear our plates and asked if the food was OK. At this point, most deflated and disappointeed by my meal I replied that it was not cooked how I asked and the vegetables were rock hard. In response I got a very snappy rude response of 'Well you ate it'.

After this we made a hasty move to pay the bill and leave as we did not wish to stay any longer. To my surprise another waiter with whom we settled the bill, had taken one of the fillet steaks off our bill and apologised profusley. This gesture did go some way in restoring my belief in good customer service, something which I was starting to think some staff at this restaurant knew nothing about!
