We used to love it here - it now looks shabby - and with the cost of the food - which is good - the decor is a disgrace. Cheap tables, awful wallpaper, weeds everywhere. The place is currently a building site too. It has long since lost its charm. A crying shame. It used to be peaceful and good value but is now a shabby, lack lustre affair and we won't return to eat at the Fisherman's Retreat.

The Fisherman's Retreat Itself Is Nice, Out Of The
The Fisherman's Retreat itself is nice, out of the way and scenic views. I been going here for the past 8 years. It seems the menu has tried go go up market and things are expensive. £17 for a sirloin steak is far too expensive, especially when it's only served with a bed of lettuce.

The Food Was Excellent And Well Served. The Servic
The food was excellent and well served. the service was superb with a very good atmosphere in a spotless enviroment.
I have based this review on a first time basis. I went with my daughter and although I had heard quite a lot about The Fishermans Retreat I had never been before. But I have booked to take six relatives in February.
And I confirm that this review is factual.

I Have Been To The Fisherman's A Couple Of Times W
I have been to the Fisherman's a couple of times with my partner either for drinks or food. We have had nice meals there and not been disappointed. I had a thai duck curry last time which was very tasty but the duck was a little dry. Best to visit this place on a weekday eve as it gets very busy at weekends. I realise that the menu is more expensive because of the quality ingredients they use but some of the dishes are a tad more than I would expect to pay. I think £6.00 is too expensive for a pub dessert. Nonetheless a good restaurant with a wide menu to suit all tastes.

My Wife & I Moved Away From The Area Around 18 Mon
My wife & I moved away from the area around 18 months ago. We used to eat there regularly, often with friends & often for business. We recently travelled back to the area to see friends & decided that the 1 place we wanted to return to was The Fishermans. Sadly, lots has changed. The old charm there, the days when your coffee was served with a chocolate, pre-the "new" menu, etc...has disappeared. Our local friends told us afterwards that they don't go to eat there anymore, but didn't want to spoil our memory of it, so honoured our request to go. It's a real shame. Nice food still, but too fancy & way too pricey..& "the magic" for whatever reason has gone..sorry...

The Food At The Fisherman's Retreat Is Fantastic -
The food at the Fisherman's Retreat is fantastic - the portions are extremely generous and leave you feeling decidedly satisfied - although you always try and squeeze in a dessert on top because they are delicious - there baker who cooks all the sweets on site must be worth their weight in gold!
The price of the food is fairly expensive when compared to chain pubs like Brewers Fayre, but in all honesty, you cant do a comparison with other pubs.
The Fisherman's is the only restaurant for miles that can tell you exactly where everything on your plate comes from - and in todays day and age that is increasingly important. So, the effort to provide such good quality food is of course reflected in the price - but it is more than worth it!
I also like the fact that the Fisherman's caters for everyone, you can go up as a family, or as a couple and have a quiet meal. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the owners are always around to say hi! I love the place and will continue to visit for as long as they are serving - i would recommend it to everyone to try!

The Fisherman's Retreat Serves What I Like To Desc
The Fisherman's Retreat serves what I like to describe as 'Posh Pub Food'. The portions are big enough for a large Elk to go home feeling full and the food is more tasty than Rachel Stevens covered in Chocolate. There is a predominant Fish theme to the menu (Which came as little of a surprise), but they also cater for other palates too, don't be put off if you don't like fish. The most expensive meal on the menu is a T-Bone Steak at £25, which I will be going to try just as soon as I locate someone who's willing to pay for it...
A few minor down points, you have to buy your drinks at the bar, not what you expect when you pay this much for a meal. And there were a few too many kids there for my liking. It's also pretty difficult to find if you don't know where you are going, but all in all it's very nice.
The Fisherman's Retreat is a family run business, and therefore it should not be a surprise to find that families are encouraged to eat here, including kids! Value for money-wise, it is excellent. I like the fact that you can have anything at any time, so if I feel like a sandwich in the evening rather than a full-blown meal I don't ever feel intimidated into ordering something I don't really want.
