Needs A Bit Of An Improvement To Beat The Sharp

I bought this as the girl from Currys said it was brilliant no chemicals needed. I had a sharp, which I loved, but our water is full of dirt, it kept clogging the filter. So I thought I would buy a different one as I needed a floor cleaner urgently. It takes far to long to heat, the sharp was instantly. The grip handle hurts your hand as it not smooth Handle , the steam is very wet, my floors take too long too dry. Not happy with this at all, hate getting out to use, to put the bit together, also there is no water gauge to see how much water there us. I wish I had bought a new sharp .. Anyone want to swap .

Replaced Twice

Cleaner did the job but was quite noisy and the side door compartments for tools kept falling open. The first problem was with the hose, it broke on the second use. The steamer was replaced, after approximately ten uses the body started to leak water. My money was refunded, will never buy this brand again.

Amazingly Easy To Clean Anything

I had a small steam cleaner that died after great use so I decided to get the Vax S5 Kithchen and Bathroom model. I have used it every day since. On my car the pressure of the steam blew out the gunk that gets into the tiny spaces around the door sills, cleared off the brake dust on the alloy wheels and the algae on the wipers. I park under a tree and sap can be a problem, but not any more.

I then used it in the kitchen. White tiles and grout are now white again, the back door through which the dog brushes is gleaming, including the cat flap. I did the inside of pan cupboards and had the added bonus of a facial as well as clean cupboards. A bit of amusement.

Today I did the main radiator near the dogs bed and not only have a clean white rad, but by blasting the steam down between the two panels, blew out large dust bunnies. By using an old towel on the floor underneath the radiator was able to collect up the dirt and shake it outside.

It is the easiest way to clean windows and if a microfibre cloth is used to buff straight away they stay clean and streak free for ages. The tool for windows is also really great for walls, during a spring clean session. I think it would probably work well to get wallpaper off, although I have none, so cannot try it. Around taps and other small awkward spaces the tools supplied are excellent.

I cannot comment on the floor cleaning capabilities as I have not tried it yet.

I love the way all the tools are carried on board the lightweight machine and the 1litre of water lasts for a long time. Now I can truely do away with so many of the chemical cleaners we all rely on. This cleaner and some microfibre cloths are all I am going to need from now on. I am no spring chicken and can manage this piece of kit with ease and enthusiasm.

Vax S5 Kitchen & Bathroom Master

My first VAX S5 lasted all of a 3 weeks before I sent it back! It leaked terribly from the bottom leaving puddles everywhere. It was replaced, I started using it again and the same thing started to happen again so I put it in a cat litter tray to drag it around without water all over the floor. When the VAX gets hot over long use the doors will not close, the hose gets itself in a horrid twist and the i found that the whole experience frustrating. Refilling once the chamber is empty can be very dangerous as the twist cap gets so hot and steam releases.

Steam cleaning is a great way of getting rid of doggy smells, puppy urine etc. Its a great way to clean. If only steam cleaners where man enough for the job. Needless to say I sent this one back after a couple of months also. I now have an upright Bissel which cleans the floors brilliantly, easy to use, however I am now looking to find a hand held to do windows, skirtings puppy pens etc...............etc........

Vax S5 Kitchen And Bathroom Master Steam Cleaner

Vax S5 Kitchen and Bathroom Master Steam Cleaner

I am really impressed with this. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a steam cleaner.

When I took it out of the box, I was surprised at how small it was - it measures approximately 26w x 26h x 21d(cm), but what surprised me even more was how much power such a small machine had!

It comes with lots of different good quality accessories including a detail nozzle, brushes, a window attachment and more that are all stored neatly within the machine. The blue part you see in the picture is a 'door' that you pull open to find the accessories and there is another door on the other side with more accessories. The only parts that are not stored within the machine are the 2 extension tubes and the floor head.

The machine is light, even when filled with water, but you don't have to carry it around much anyway as it has a very long lead and is on wheels so it just 'follows' you around.

The instructions are a little basic - mostly pictures with a little description underneath, but once you've used it once, you'll find it easy forever.

It has what I would call a childproof lid so you have to push down and twist to open then you are able to fill the machine with 700ml of water (you get a handy jug with very clear measurements on the side). Push and twist again to close it securely. Once you have attached the hose and made sure the steam handle safety latch is on, you can press the button to turn it on. It takes around 8 minutes for the LED lights to turn from red (heating) to red & green (ready) then you get around half an hours worth of steam.

To release the steam, you press the safety latch once again to unlock, then press the steam trigger on the handle for as much time as you want. It is very simple and very easy.

I have used the steamer to clean ceramic floor and wall tiles, grouting, windows, carpet, wooden floor, the bathroom (sink, taps, shower doors, head & floor) a hob, conservatory roof and the fascias around my house, all with great results.

When steaming around taps, grouting and the hob, I was truly amazed at what the steamer got off. Limescale, soapy residue and grease lifted up like a breeze, then all I had to do was rinse it away.

Cleaning hard floors was easy - just attach the floor head and away you go - very fast and easy to clean.

When cleaning a carpet, you just attach the upholstery cloth to the floor head and you're ready to go. I had a bad stain on my carpet which took 2 goes to remove. The cloth can be washed in a washing machine or by hand afterwards.

I found that the extension tubes were a little flimsy when all were attached, so did not want to push down too hard on it. It felt perfectly fine if just one or two were attached though.

When you have finished, you turn the steamer off at the plug, press the steam trigger to release steam, and let it cool before emptying.

All in all, I think it does a superb job and is well worth the money.

I Needed A More Powerful (yet Still Fairly Compact

I needed a more powerful (yet still fairly compact) steam cleaner after my handheld failed on a few jobs.

Thw Vax S5 ticked all the boxes and price wise appeared quite reasonable - so I got one.

Once you've finished unpacking the box (there are numerous accessories) the first thing that strikes you is the nice compact size of thw unit. It comes on wheels, which has proved invaluable for mobility with room size jobs.

Its certainly light enough to move from the floor to a worktop if thats more convenient but the length of power cable (6 meters) and the steam hose (1.7 meters) is more than ample to cover the majority of jobs.

Theres enough accessories for all manner of jobs so whether its a nice light task like cleaning roller blinds or a hefty oven clean you confidently know the job can be done.

I previously tried a popular hand held steamer but it didnt have enough grunt for my grill and oven.

The Vax S5 tore thru the job effortlessly. I had to use more steam on heavier grease and grime deposits but thats to be expected (have you seen my oven?!)

A nice surprise for newbie steamers is the variety of jobs that can be undertaken with this Vax.

I havent used all of the accessories simply because the other accessories have been used for all my jobs so far.

Window cleaning, worktops, tile grout, Venetian blinds, mirrors, skirting and even steam cleaning clothes are all easy tasks for this neat steam package.

Go on, buy one - you wont regret it!

I Must Say I Was Impressed With This Little Steam

I must say I was impressed with this little steam cleaner! Lightweight and compact the onboard tool storage makes it easy to store and keeps everything in one place. Very versatile with lots of different attachments to use all around the house, not just the kitchen and bathroom.

Fairly easy to set up, although the removal of the cap to the water tank takes a couple of attempts first time, but the water lasts for ages!

The Vax Kitchen & Bathroom Master worked brilliantly on the heated floor tiles in my bathroom, removing dried soap and toothpaste quickly and easily. The grout attachment helped get to all the awkward spaces and remove stains and marks left by the old house owners!

Excellent at loosening and moving oven grease and grime too and gave my carpets a well needed steam clean! I no longer use my mop on my kitchen and other hard floors but this steam cleaner instead as the brushes on the floor attachment help lift stains and other marks.

Still trying all the remaining attachments, but looking forward to experimenting!

Would highly recommend to anyone who likes having a nice clean home and enjoys their gadgets too!

The Lean Green Cleaning Machine! The S

The lean green cleaning machine!

The S5 is a compact but powerful model with an accessory for every cleaning job around the house (see product details). This was my first steam cleaner so I had high expectations and a very dirty house. The instructions were fairly straightforward, although it is worth being patient when unpacking all the bits and working out how to operate. Everything excluding the carpet cleaner and extension tubes can be attached to the main unit for storage which is helpful if you are short on storage space. The S5 comes complete with a measuring jug and funnel so having filled the reservoir just wait for the green light to get started. This takes about 10 minutes. Don't forget to unlock the safety catch, then squeeze and go.

It was very effective in lifting burnt on dirt on the cooker, and the bathroom is sparkling with the added bonus of not reeking of toxic cleaners. All in all an excellent buy if you want a clean home and a clear conscience.

Vax S5 Steam Cleaner. This Little Machine Is

Vax S5 Steam Cleaner.

This little machine is marvellous. It comes with loads of accessories to enable you to clean the smallest area up to carpets and upholstery. The instructions are fairly basic but easy to follow. Maybe a little more information could be included to explain things like how close you hold the nozzle to the object to be cleaned and how long you hold it there for and what results you might be able to achieve etc. Probably just for first time users of a steam machine! The machine carries all but the carpet cleaning head and extension tubes so it is all very handy and not heavy. It is also on wheels so easy to pull around and has a very long plug cable. Once filled up, using the included measuring jug and funnel, and switched on, it takes about 8 minutes to heat up. A green for go light comes on, you unlock the safety catch on the nozzle, squeeze the trigger and the steam comes out. Each accessory twists on and off so you can change them easily. There is a dial to vary the amount of steam but it usually lasts a good half hour. There is no water gauge on the machine but this has not been a problem. Once it stops steaming, the water is gone!

I have been trying to use all of the accessories in different areas of my home just to see what results I can achieve. I started on my hob and using the brushes and detail nozzle I was able to remove the grease which had built up around the rings. I believe with further applications I may be able to remove the really bad burnt marks which have been there forever! I also used the scraper tool on the glass on the inside of the door but went back to the brushes as they were more effective to remove the splashes of grease on there. I think the scraper is more for the grill/oven racks but have not tried it on that yet. I then tried the carpet cleaning tool which you attach to the extension tubes so you are standing upright, like using a hoover. I did find the extension tubes to be a little bendy as they are plastic, so don't push down too hard! I used it on a couple of small marks and they did fade a bit. Our carpet is fairly new so doesn't need much cleaning but I did notice that it was dry almost immediately after using the cleaner on it. The carpet cleaning head uses a cloth over it but you take this off for hard floors. I used it on laminate flooring and it is so quick to clean the floor. It is obviously wet afterwards just as it would be had you mopped it - but this is much less hard work! Moving on to the window head I tried it on the conservatory windows. They came up a dream! It was so easy to run the head down the windows - no cleaners, sprays, vinegar, newspaper etc! I just wiped them down after with some kitchen towel and they were smear free. Up in the bathroom I used the concentration nozzle around the taps. It blasted out some nasty limescale and then I just rinsed it away. Window head back on again to do the shower screen and again it came up well, clearing most of the water marks. Finally I used the grout brush and this was absolutely brilliant. It gets all the orangey limescale/shampoo/shower gel bits out so easily, just by brushing it past. Beware if you have painted tiles though as the steam is quite powerful! The steam cleaner also comes with cloths for upholstery which fit over the window cleaning head but this is the only thing I have not used.

Once finished with the machine you just turn it off and release the remaining steam from the trigger. Let it cool down and empty out any remaining water. I guess it would be nice to have some kind of cord storage but with so many accessories on board, there is really no room for them to fit one!

All in all it is a great little machine, which helps you do those horrid jobs like cleaning windows and makes light work of it.
