Vax V-081 Compact 1500w

Would be ok if it wasn't so difficult to open and close the cap for the water tank. badly designed and quite dangerous. Been struggling with this for hours and remembered why I never use it. My advice would be to forget about buying this.

I thought this was the best steam cleaner for under £100 and while it worked I thought it was absolutely fab. Unfortunately there are poor design aspects which led mine to cease functioning after just 2 months. A replacement lasted more than a year but only because only used several times after which it too died. Worse, nobody could be found to repair it. What a shame and in the end a complete waste of money. Like other people, I fell for the myth that Vax have a very good reputation but I now believe that would change if more people had complained instead of just chucking theirs in the bin and moving onto alernative products. The hose connections are the first thing to go, followed by the internal regulator, in the end the steam won't come out and if it does it is no longer hot or effective. A product that basically explodes in the end.

I got this cleaner mainly for carpet cleaning, can't say that it has made the slightest difference to them despite 3 attempts. Wont clean the grout on tiles (as pictured on the box) won't clean the oven either. Waste of money and time. This is such a let down be a reputable company i am supprised they put their name to such a shoddy product. If your looking to buy one DONT you'll be just another disapointed customer (for proof see how many are on e-bay unsold!!!) rightfully i should rate this product as no stars!

Very disappointing!

Bought my Vax V-081 Compact 1500w and used only once to clean carpets in smaller rooms and hallway. No real difference as carpets not that dirty - more interested in just giving them a good steam cleanse! So can't comment on how effective it is on stain removal.

Next time I wanted to use it ( 6 weeks later ) no steam produced at all despite the water heating up to the required temperature! Tried again and again (even descaled the tank just in case ) but to no avail.

Would definitely not recommend it. Considering this is not a product most people would use everyday and is only guaranteed for a year, it represents very bad value for money. In my case it only had one use before it broke down completely...... and the guaranted is fast running out! Now I have to hunt for the receipt in order to return it!

I bought the VAX V081 steam cleaner and was very disappointed with its performance. Originally, I had a Polti steam cleaner which was wonderful. The pressure was higher than the Vax and cleaning was easier. Despite vacuuming, the vax won't remove left over cat/dog hairs. Also, the vax leaves floors and furniture very wet. I used to use the Polti to steam clean my mattresses during the summer and they were dry in a short length of time. The lance and accessories with the Vax are very delicate. Would prefer something sturdier.

I am heavily pregnant and thought the Vax V-081 Compact 1500w would help me clean with ease. I've tried it twice now on all surfaces, tiles, mirrors, glass, laminate floor, carpet, none of which were heavily soiled and I have found that nothing beats a suitable cloth and product, in fact, the machine is now out for recycling and I'm going to hire a proper carpet cleaner, I wish I had done this in the 1st place.

This is the second Vax V-081 steam cleaner i have had due to returning the previous one after two days because the water heater was faulty. It is a good all round cleaner and can be used pretty much everywhere around the home, walls, floors, tiles, windows, beds etc. It gives good results and is fab for getting in those areas that are hard to reach. Unfortunately the handle is poor quality and hot water drips out when in use which is a real letdown

I bought this steamer particularly to clean my carpets, thinking I could use it for other things too. It took me two mornings to clean my dining room carpet and it still isn't clean. I had various food stains left by my grandchildren but the steamer would not touch them. (My carpet is a good quality wool carpet). In the end I had to use a spot cleaner. As for other areas that were just generally dirty, it did clean to a certain extent but not really clean. It was a waste of time really so I felt that I should have just bought a carpet cleaner. I intend to go back to Argos and exchange for a carpet cleaner so watch this space for another review on the Vax Rapide Deluxe!
