Stoves 900gdo

I had my old cooker for over 17 years and it worked well, however, I decided that I would like a new cooker, which was a bad decision. Unfortunately, there are very few Gas Built in Cookers so choice was poor, however, the Stoves 900GDO looked very nice and was equal to the size I had. I purchased it in Nov 2008 and it worked fine. In 2011 i received a letter stating my cooker was now three years old and it suggested I took out a plan to cover any fault. I do not normally take out these extra policies, but for some unknown reason I did, which was very fortunate because in Nov 2011 the cooker would not work. I will compliment the engineer that came along, with the correct part (the telephone contact had determined the fault over the phone)and it was fitted very quickly. I was quite impressed, but annoyed at the same time to think I had paid over £600 and it had gone wrong within 3 years. In April 2012 the cooker would not get to temperature so another call and again fault diagnosed over the phone and engineer arrived and fitted it within very short time. The renewal of insurance plan came up and the cost had gone up, from memory over 30% so I decided that it was not worth it, but woe and behold my cooker has gone wrong again. If you have the bottom oven on and then turn on the top over after a short while the power goes off. Cools down and oven works.

Well , Mines Brand New And It Dont Work !

I've just had a new kitchen fitted with my new stoves built in double oven.Come to try it , top oven fires up perfect , but nothing from the bottom oven , no light , no igniter , and no gas !

I've spoke to customer care who talk me through resetting the timer , but it still doesn't work , they now tell me its an instalation fault !! How thats possable I dont know as the top oven works perfect , All you need to do is connect the gas pipe and plug it in !!!

I will be back on the phone tomorrow and will request an engineer to come and sort it but they seem very reluctant to do this !

I haven't cooked in it yet by the way .

They seem to be very reluctant to even consider it may be faulty

So as its brand new and unused , if its faulty then I will ask for a replacement , Not expecting an easy ride !

Will keep all updated !

Let Down By British Make (stoves Gas Double Oven)

do not buy a stoves oven they are a complete waste of money i thought it would last for years but after 4 years of nothing but trouble it has now been condemmed do not use, as for buy british.. why and waste another 705.98£ (inc hob) i don't think so,the trouble is going by the reviews here i'm at a loss as what to buy as nothing seems any good, for me buying a built in double oven (to save bending down and being on the floor to clean it)has been a very bad decision as my kitchen was built to include this double oven and i have nowhere to put a free standing one, help... arghhhh what a nightmare, still at least i don't have to worry about baking now...

I Wish I'd Known . . . .!

STOVES 900 GDO GAS DOUBLE OVEN

I've owned this oven for three years now - NOT a good buy.

After 6 months it needed a new main oven burner assembly and thermostat - luckily replaced under the initial warranty.

Several months ago (not even 3 years old) I experienced the following problems:

* grill - ignition constantly sparking and grill flame looking what I can only describe as 'floppy'.

* top oven - not cooking food properly, and cooling fan noisy. Eventually, gas and electric safety cut-out operated and complete cooker stopped working.

* main oven - cooling fan extremely noisy and intermittent.

I have now had the cooker serviced, with complete new grill unit, new fan and new fan printed circuit board. Fingers crossed . . . I can't help wondering how long these will last!

If I'd known that Stoves ovens manufacturers had changed I probably would not have purchased this.

I CHOSE THIS OVEN ON THE PERCEIVED EXCELLENT REPUTATION OF STOVES COOKERS. AT £540 INITIALLY, PLUS REPAIR COSTS AND REPLACEMENT PARTS THIS HAS PROVED AN EXPENSIVE (and regretted) PURCHASE.

Ordered A 900gdo But Had A 900gdot Fitted. Tried T

Ordered a 900GDO but had a 900GDOT fitted. Tried the grill and the plug fuse blew (5A) as it has an ELECTRIC grill now. This is not what we wanted or ordered, but Stoves simply stated that their latest brochure states this. But our Kitchen supplier had his distributor's 2009/10 catalogue which gave the 900GDO MKII spec. Stoves said it was not their fault, and the changes had been made to make the product more efficient. Utter B......s which I explained to them. No real understanding of the situation and that they should have fundamentally changed the model number - not just stuck a T on the end - so that all other parties would not have been misled.

Then I read the manual carefully and realised that the feature for automatic cooking has been disabled. All on can do is set the duration of cooking, so you cannot set the oven to come on at some future time.

We had a New World oven with separate gas grill before, and in 28 years we just needed a new thermostat. But GDH has dumbed down the New World range, so we went for Stoves (same manufacturer).

Apart from the two significant changes above (still called a 900GDO) we have found :

1. The controls are not as easy to use. On our previous oven you just set the knob to the right temp and it did the rest. On this one you have to turn the knob to full gas, press it in for 15 secs for the oven to light and then turn it back to the right setting. In fact this "feature" makes me wonder if there is a thermostat, or whether the oven temp is simply set by the gas flow setting!!

2. The oven is controlled by few buttons and a display. So to do anything you first have to set the modes and then keep pressing a button to set times etc. On our old cooker it was far quicker with separate knobs for each function.

3. The grill handle gets very hot, so you have to remove it and then refit it every time you want to check / adjust the food.

Purchased A Stoves 900gdo 16 Months Ago, Right Fro

Purchased a Stoves 900GDO 16 months ago, right from the off the door seals were poor and scorched the built in surround. Then the cooling fan failed, I called in some service engineers who quickly identified the problem and ordered the spares required. 3 weeks later and no sign of the spares, I had phoned Stoves who said there were no cooling fans for this model in stock nor was there any imminent prospect of them turning up. It`s now nearly 6 weeks and still no sign of the replacement fan arriving, so I have a cooker, less than 2 years old and nothing but an ornament in my kitchen. Have since found out that Stoves are also part of the same group who also make New World and Belling stoves and the after sales service for all of these leaves a lot to be desired. AVOID AT ALL COST.

I Think My Ex Bough This Because It Is Quite Cheap

I think my ex bough this because it is quite cheap, but nevermind, my Stoves 900GDO works a treat and is easy to clean. On top of that it cooks fine so that's it, a great oven for me.
