Very Unprofessional

This is a slightly delayed review as I was abroad for 8 weeks. However I am still very upset with my experience and the results I had at Nicky Oliver. I am mainly disappointed by three issues, firstly the unclear pricing, secondly the results of my cut and colour, thirdly the response from the staff. I booked in for highlights with a trainee at the academy and on the day the students were upstairs in the main Salon. I went in with healthy virgin light brown hair and I asked for caramel and light blonde highlights. The staff member who was "supervising" the trainee fobbed off my complaint and responded "you went to a trainee, what do you expect?". The supervisor didn't seem to want to offer me any kind of solution. To answer your question was what I expected... Well I expect quality control, I expect any substandard work to be rectified by a professional, I expect sympathy and assistance with finding a solution, I expect a better level of supervision and I expect that I shouldn't be told to accept a shoddy job just because they are training. These are not unreasonable expectations and most respected hair dressers offer to re do the work and an apology. After my appointment I met with a friend who agreed that the hair was unsatisfactory. We decided to go into a different hairdressers for an opinion. She agreed that you cannot see two different colours added into my hair, the hair colour is not blonde and that the start of the colour is very clunky/chunky. My second issue was the price. I was quoted £30 before the appointment and during the consultation I asked for two different shades of colour. At no point was I told this would double the price I was quoted. I ended up having to pay £50 and the biggest joke is that you cannot in any shape or form see two colours in my hair. So not only was I not kept updated properly, I was also charged for an extra colour that is unnoticeable. I wanted two shades of blonde and ended up with one shade of uneven light brown. During the colour the trainee didn't close the foils and only half way through the colour process did the other person inform the trainee that they should be flat and closed. At the end when I told the person I dealt with I wasn't happy, she also responded that I changed my mind and went for a darker shade of blonde. Yes that was correct.... However after she wandered off I reversed the decision and asked for the original lighter shade. So sorry, you can't use that as an excuse for why I was left with this mess. She just tried to wash her hands of the situation and use any excuse possible. If she had paid more attention to the colours chosen, to the foils being closed maybe it wouldn't have turned out so badly. I understand it's a trainee and I don't expect perfection. But I do expect that they will hold themselves responsible and fix the issue. This bad cut made me embarrassed and took the shine off my time aboard. A few days after the appointment I had to go abroad and only returned last week so have not had an opportunity to go in and question the results with somebody level headed. However I assume after this length of time Nicky Oliver will say it's been too long and they will not help. They will also say this review shouldn't be attached to their Salon because it was part of the academy. But my hair was done in the salon and my problem isn't just with the hair, it's with the price and your staffs attitude. So I believe it's very relevant to the salon. I have now told several people to avoid because of the stand offish attitude. I would like a refund for the second colour (£20) and the offer to fix it. But considering I wasn't even given an apology on the day, I doubt I'll get much. Also just incase the salon try to deny my appointment existed, it was on the 14th August at 10am (approx).

Rip Off

I lost my hair 12 months ago through alopecia and I went to Nicky Oliver's wig room which is actually no larger than a cupboard situated in the basement of the building. As I had nothing to compare Nicky Oliver's to he appeared very friendly and helpful although he does talk about himself a lot. Over mine months I purchased 2 wigs from him, the first was £365 and the second £410 for the same quality wig which were in fact Dimples Premier Feather. I have recently now got a prescription for wigs and have gone to a new salon which is lovely and the amount of wigs to choose from is incredible. I have found out through this salon that Nicky Oliver appears to be making a huge profit on these wigs which is disgusting and I intend to make Dimples aware of this. Beware.

Thank you for your review and custom over the last 12 months.

We are very concerned that there has been a misunderstanding with our service and price structure.

Firstly we are a hairdressing salon, with lots of different areas to our business, salon, hairdressing school, retail and a specialised wig room.

The wig room is located on the lower floor, where our hairdressing school is based, reason being, purely for privacy.

We need to state the importance that the 'wig room' is not a wig shop and the service offered is very specialised.

When you attend as a private client, you receive a in depth consultation, which covers all the different choices of wigs and hair pieces, we also consider your lifestyle and practicality in helping you with your choices.

There is usually a charge for the consultation (£25.00) and once you have made a decision, there is the cost of the wig or hairpiece ( you chose a wig which cost £275.00),

Then there is a fitting, cutting and styling cost (Nicky Oliver standard price at £110.00).

Within this we show you how to fit your wig yourself, how to maintain and aftercare advice. If you have Alopecia, we give a form to be exempt from VAT The total cost is £410.00 which you were charged at the time for the full service.

All the prices for our services on located on our website except for the wigs and hairpieces, because they vary in price.

If someone produces an NHS prescription form, then you will advised as to the type of wig that is available with the prescription.

Regards

Excellent Care And Service!

Having recently visited the Piccadilly salon twice with my daughter to order and collect a wig (through the Teenage Cancer Trust), we can not praise highly enough Nicky and his team for the care and attention we received. From the time we walked through the door we were made welcome.

On both visits Nicky put my daughter at ease and answered all of our questions and gave a lot of very helpful advice. We were never made to feel rushed and there was plenty of after care support offered.

We really appreciate the time he has given up to do this. The wig is amazing. He has helped make what was an anxious time into a positive experience.

THANK YOU

Uncharitable And Extremely Unhelpful

First of all when I first read nicky oliver website I was very excited about getting my wig and having it styled by him but then when I got to the salon I was not aware I would have to wait over 4 weeks for a wig I desperately needed. Nicky oliver makes out like he cares about helping you look and feel better about yourself when really all he cares about is talking about himself and getting his money off the charity he is ment to be helping. Also, his website describes a luxurious wig room when really its just a cramped storage room where they keep other wigs. When I finally received my wig after waiting weeks for it I was extremely disappointed, I was not impressed with the colour that was recommend by him and I was definitely not impressed with how he tried to style it. All he did was brush a tiny amount of hair onto the other side trying to create a side parting. He kept asking how I would like it styled but because it is a wig I didn't know what I wanted and what could be done to it so I kept telling him I didn't know and what he thought I should have done seen as though he is ment to be a profession hair dresser. All he wanted to do was speak about himself and hurry me up so he could go home. Him and his workers are extremely rude and stuck up and don't care about helping you because to them it is just a Job so they don't make you feel better at all. I don't think nicky oliver realises how traumatic losing your hair is and having to wear a wig, a rubbish wig that he makes out is going to be amazing. He does not deserve to have people thinking he helps out charities because he really doesn't so I strongly recommend you don't go to him.

Rude

I didn't even manage to get to the salon. The service on the phone was appalling. I called to book an appointment with a particular stylist, who as it so happened answered the phone. We have mutual friends (and have met a couple of times), he is for whatever reason not getting on with these people but this is nothing to do with me, I just wanted my hair cut!! I was hung up on and when I called back it was clear that another person had been sent to answer the call. I have never encountered such rudeness as from the lady who answered in his place. There was not one jot of professionalism from either of them and it reminded me of a school playground!!! Perhaps they would do well to remember that without customers they do not have jobs!!! It would be advisable for them to learn how to separate work from their personal issues and not take their nonsense out on customers!!

Wig Fitting Service

I received the most exceptional service from Nicky yesterday. I am about to start chemo, and the horror of undergoing breast surgery and then the thought of losing my hair too, was almost too much to bear. I had previously visited a salon in Macclesfield and I was greeted by a cold, abrupt lady. I left in tears. With trepidation, I went to Nicky's salon. In stark contrast, I was met with smiles, sensitivity, courteous service and a great deal of fun! I went with my mum, sister and niece and we genuinely had one of the nicest mornings we could possibly imagine.

Nicky understood my style, existing hair, the colour, my treatment plan - and I came away with a beautifully cut wig that has given me the confidence to face the year ahead. I now feel feminine again and less frightened. I will return again to get a real hair wig and I genuinely would only deal with Nicky.

His website is excellent too.

She too, left wearing one of the wigs purchased and we went for lunch . She was amazed how good the wig was and Nicky gave her the confidence to walk out of the door and face the world!!!! Thank you Nicky, you were fab!!!

Cannot Style Afro Hair; Poor Customer Service!!

I came into the salon for the first time for a simple treatment and style. In London I am used to a mixture of conditioner and oils applied to my hair for the steam treatment. Only a conditioner was used; I could have done that at home. I was booked in with a stylist who I believed would be able to style my hair based on the description I provided. I proceeded to show the stylist a picture who claimed she knew how to style my hair.

This was the worst experience I have had in a hair salon. The salon had no small straighteners which was required to style my hair. The hair stylist had no idea how to recreate the style I had showed her but thought the untidy style she had created was adequate. She called her boss over who just expressed a series of useless responses as if I didn't know how my hair is typically styled. Nicky Oliver also came over who just expressed another series of useless responses. I think their customer service is extremely poor as I was spoken to as if I didn't know my own hair. The style I was left with was embarrassing.

As soon as I left the salon I booked in with my stylist in London for when I returned as I couldn't walk around with my hair as it was when I left the salon.

If you have Afro hair I would not recommend this salon!!

Re Steam treatment and Blow dry

On arrival at the salon you were greeted by one of our receptionists and then given a thorough consultation, during which you showed her a picture of Emile Sande.

The Senior Stylist talked about the condition of your hair and discussed with you the breakage of your hair from previous relaxers and over use of straightening irons. She then proceeded to tell you about a new treatment called Fibre Force which she felt would be perfect for you. However, you declined this treatment and asked for a steam treatment which we used Kerafuse treatment by Mizani. As explained to you, this is a professional hair treatment and can only be used in selected salons.

The stylist then applied a selection of styling products by Mizani and styled your hair into the shape you had requested - Emile Sande. When you told the Stylist that you did not like it and that you wanted it more 'square', she happily restyled it for you but you were still not happy.

The Salon Manager spoke to you about the style which you said was not 'sharp' and she suggested you cut the sides and back of your hair because the shape had grown out. However you refused so the Manager spoke to me and I then came over to speak to you.

Then you showed me a picture of Denise Lewis, not Emile Sande, both styles with shaved sides and back but the top of the hairstyles have different movement. I explained that to achieve either style you would need to have your hair cut, as it had grown out. Again you refused.

I personally could not see anything wrong with the styling you received, except you needed a good cut to make it look like either picture.

The customer service you received was genuine and the staff had empathy and warmth and when you came to pay we gave you 50% off the Blow dry price as a gesture of goodwill.

I felt that we tried to offer you the very best advice regarding treatments and style, which you chose to ignore. Unfortunately when a client refuses to accept our suggestions we can only try our best to achieve the look they have requested. I felt that on this occasion we did our best under these circumstances.
