Don't Use Gtec Mac Repairs, Useless And Overpriced!

Had a MacBook looked at by the person I dealt with at GTEC  booking was fairly simple to be fair (although it took a while to receive booking details) and I sent it away. It took over a couple of weeks to be checked out (although up to 7 working day turnaround was mentioned), I called for updates and kept being palmed off.

Finally after it was checked out, the person I dealt with said the board was liquid damaged (which it was) and ultrasonic cleaned, for which I got a bill (over £90). He said it still wasn't fixed and quoted a ridiculous amount (over £500!) for a logic board replacement, saying the board was irreparable, for which they say they carry out component repairs for around £200.

Asked to have it sent back, since it was way more than I thought it would cost to fix; even though they say it has free return, collection, etc, even if you don't want the work, I had to pay over £20 and the £90 ultrasonic cost to get this sent back anyway. This was for insurance too, since none of the free options have insurance, which is ridiculous when sending a £1000+ Mac! Once paid, it took around a week for me to receive it, even though I was told it would be next day.

Sent it away to another repair shop and the MacBook had not even been cleaned properly, and the person I dealt with  hadn't even attempted work to the board (even though they say they do)! They noted parts were disconnected and one part in particular had been damaged by GTEC. On top of this is the fact that this particular repair shop said they have had multiple failed repairs sent from customers sending it to GTEC before, which is worrying. This company fixed the board for under £200, resolving the issues caused by GTEC and in under a week too till I received it back. A completely different experience!

In summary, this company overcharge, are extremely slow and incompetent. I don't know how they are still in business. The prices they claim on the website exclude VAT which is bad practice, and the free postage is a false promise; if they fix it they just incorporate it in the cost, so it isn't "free" is it. I personally think they just ultrasonic and charge customers around £100 for liquid damaged devices, even if it can't be fixed, which was the situation in my case! I have submitted my case to trading standards, Watchdog and I am also in the process of legal proceedings against GTEC, to get my money back for a service I feel was misleading and I suggest others reading this in the same boat do the same.

I decided to write the review here since I have heard other customers get their 1 star reviews deleted from "Vocal References" which GTEC have control over. I have included links below of the other bad feedback I have found, since a lot of it is well hidden. It looks like they changed their name on the Google page to Brighouse PC Repairs to prevent people finding it when typing "GTEC Mac Repairs" or "www.macrepairs-uk.co.uk", but it can be found when searching their address...

Please do yourself a favour and STEER WELL CLEAR!
