Lost Travellers Cheques - 3 Months Later Amex Could Not Care
I purchases travellers cheques, followed all the procedures. Used them to pay for something so had to write payees name and countesign them. They were lost in the post, which a I reported. The Customer services rep was awful, zero service and blamed me for signing them. Ermmm how else am I supposed to pay or cash them. 3 months late no replacement cheques
I cannot even get a response from Amex to m 7 recorded letters, 3 of them to MD Rafa Marquez. Have sent copies of ID, purchase record, bank details. Nothing. No one at AMEX gives a damn.
Can't Even Get Them Back In My Home Country
I'm a German and I was going to China for 1 month. I asked my Bank for a good method to get money in a foreign country and they recommended these traveller Cheques. They were completely useless because nobody in China accepted them. Now I'm back in Germany and wanted to get my money back, that's 2 weeks ago now. Obviously I can't even get my money back in my homecountry, I am annoyed.
Versuche es bei der Reisebank (reisebank.de). Die akzeptieren i.d.R. American Express Reiseschecks (im gegensatz zu denen von Thomas Cook, MasterCard, etc.)
Worst Experience Ever
I lost my American Express travelers checks and it was a horrible,
truly horrible ordeal to get the matter resolved. I think it would be
easier to get someone off of Texas Death Row than to get their
travelers checks replaced etc... I spoke with one man 30 minutes,
another one same questions again. another 30 minutes. there were times I was assured someone would return my phone call and no one did.
I sent them back countless faxed papers, it was a total nightmare.
i have used their travelers checks for years, NEVER AGAIN.
the entire experience was a truly horrible, horrible nightmare. several
times they said they could mail me a check to my home or wire the money to my
bank although i told them i am out of state and need the money NOW.
i called them on a Saturday and got my money on a Wednesday.

Never Again
I am Canadian. Practically impossible to use in Mexico. Hardly accepted in a country that has so much tourism; not even the banks want them. I decided to cash them in the USA and travelled to Texas, where I still found enormous resistance even at the banks. Whenever I phoned customer service, they lied to me. When I checked for online information at the AMEX website, the addresses that AMEX listed as their offices turned out to be some banks, Walmart stores, and HEB supermarkets which did not cash the cheques. There is not a single AMEX office in Mexico, and now after this horrible experience I believe that there may not be any either in the USA. I will never use AMEX again.

Ae Travelers Cheques Useless In Europe
I have been recently in Europe in vacation for 3 weeks. So, trying to not have too much cash, my wife and I have bought AE travelers cheques for a value of 3,000 Euros.
And that was the moment when the pain started and when we’ve decided to never do that again.
Most of the businesses in Europe do not accept the AE travelers cheques. To get the euros one must pay a fee!
The fee is from 1.5 to 5 %!! Of course the 1.5 % is just on web sites and not in reality. We have ended up paying 90 Euros to get the money (@ 3 %)!! And this is after we have paid at the bank the price for buying – usually is a 10% difference between buying and selling.
Final words: do not use AE travelers cheques! They are useless and with huge fees, at least in Europe.

Less Secue Than Cash
I recently brough £500 of travellers cheques. I lost them in the park playing with kids in Paris. I then phonned to report them lost but was told to phone in the morning for a replacement. I did so but was told that they needed a copy of all my id wage slips. Luckly I had these stored on my netbook so I sent them. I was then told "We think you left them at the hotel have a look and let us know you can then use them" I had to get money payed into ny bank account to survive. If I would not of had friends I would have been a sinle girl on the streets with a baby. Six months later and I am still out if pocket. No where to complain too. The level of spoken English by amex is useless. My insurance company would have covered for cash but not cheques as they are covered by amex. Only carry cards and cash unless you want to lose everything and possibly end up on the streets.

Pathetic, Dismal, Can't Be Exchanged And No Contact Number
What a bunch of pathetic cowboys, but what else can you expect from an American organisation.
I tried to change Amex TC's in the Canaries. None of the banks I tried would change them. I tried calling their 'emergency' contact number only to find the line isn't connected, there's just an automated message saying the line isn't in use. How wonderful.
When I arrived home I tried contacting Amex on several occasions, no-one was interested in the slightest. Eventually I was pointed to a website where I could complain, but not by email. I had to print out a form, complete it and post it to Amex in the US at my expense (about £2). 4 weeks later they replied saying they were sorry for my problems and they gave me a number to call - the same number that I'd already tried and still didn't work.
Amex finally changed the website but now you have to enter the country into a box to get the relevant number, but this isn't possible as nothing can be entered into the box, so they still can't be contacted.
This must be their get quick rich scheme - sell a bunch of cheques that you can't exchange anywhere. When you get home take them back for a refund but you still lose the commission. What a joke.
AVOID AND DON'T BUY THEIR PRODUCTS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES - THEY CLAIM TO BE ACCEPTED ALL OVER THE WORLD BUT NO-ONE WANTS THEM, UNLESS MAYBE BY ANOTHER AMEX OFFICE.

I would never purchase American Express Travelers Cheques again, I had my Hotel room Robbed in Mumbai In India while on a three week Holiday American Express were a Nightmare,I was interviewed on My Mobile Phone on The street and questioned like a criminal the person dealing with my Case could not speak English and contradicted me at every opportunity, Four weeks later and I still haven't had a refund, My solicitor Is now dealing with it,I must also say American Express did absolutely nothing to help but just put obstacles in my way to avoid paying out
I dont Often write reviews however on the occasion I felt I must warn People of what to Expect and not have to go through what I have over the last four weeks, take a cash passport with two cards and have them separate its a lot easier and safer and if you were unlucky enough to lose both at least your money would be safe.
