Worse Than Poor
I wanted to insure our motor home with Saga. Phoned, as I had some questions & the first contact couldn’t find the motor home listed, even though it’s a recent model from one of the larger manufacturers. Keen to insure with Saga I phoned again, different person & they found the vehicle no problem. Then, all sorts of problems for me. I was cut off several times, they didn’t call back. Wanting the price & wanting to use Saga I called again, to complain & was then called back by one of their team. The result was they would insure the motor home if it was stored on our drive, but, not if stored in a locked & secure area, monitored by security cameras, lights & regularly patrolled.
Went with caravan & motor home club, no problems.

Replacing Tinted Windscreen
My rear windscreen had to be replaced due to some fool going round our district with a catapult...I wanted it replaced 'like for like'. My rear windscreen is tinted, but Saga would not pay for a tinted one as their windscreen company only put in plain ones. My campervan was purchased new from a company that is quoted in Saga's list of motorhome makes. I have never altered anything on this vehicle. So therefore I expected Saga to pay for a tinted rear windscreen. After waiting weeks for a replacement I have had to have the plain one fitted. I ask if Saga would pay the additional £80 for me to have it tinted by an independent company. They refused. Also there is no restrictions in the booklet saying they will not pay for tinted windscreens. So one would expect that they pay. I am now taking this matter to the Ombudsman. So my advice to anyone considering taking out insurance with Saga, make sure you check all that you are paying for. We insured with Saga as they are suppose to look after the 'Oldies' and we are both in our mid 70's.
Poor Value And Disinterested
Got an online quote for motorhome insurance. Over the course of the week it took to consider and compare, the price went up three times. Phoned them - also because I wanted to ask about secure site storage for it. Obviously it is safer in a gold-rated fenced and patrolled store than on an open driveway but not according to Saga - that put the price up another £150!! The phone operative was unfriendly and not interested at all. We are now insured with the Camping and Caravan Club - friendly, helpful and £200 cheaper. Saga? You are off my lists for good.
