Making A Second Application
I made a very good choice in choosing Responsible Life as they will only proceed if it benefits you. I have made two applications and recieved the same expert advice each time I have also moved to a new home in between advances, as i am disabled this enabled me to live more comfortly.
I highly reccomend this way to anyone.

Excellent level of service and advice from Responsible Life and partners, the whole process was easy and straightforward to understand.
The product is of a particularly high standard and was delivered in to me in a professional manner paying particular regard to my specific needs.
I liked the way the deal was conducted and the result achieved and I would definately use the product again should the need arise.

Don't Do It
We started the process of equity release early in October 2018. It is now March 1st 2019 and it has not progressed. We are not being kept informed so have no idea where we are at. There appears to be "problems" because of the solar panel lease. If you have solar panels I would suggest you forget equity release. Solar panels, apparently, reduce the value of your property.
After 5 months we do not know anything about our application. The Respnsible Life agent has been given until 30th March 2018 to conclude this application. We are NOT holding our breath and expect nothing at the end of 6 months.

Aviva Equity Release
My father borrowed £35,000 in 2002. In February 2018 the outstanding loan paid back to Aviva was over £131,000. Aviva will keep your house deeds until every penny is paid back. You will be told that the loan is paid back when you sell your home. Yes very true but a house can take 6 weeks up to years to sell. My father lived alone, blind and diabetic for several years after losing my Mum in 2011. I cared for him every day until he was placed into a nursing home in March 2017. His house was empty and I eventually sold it in December 2017. Unfortunately my father passed away on New Years Eve 2017. Everything was put on hold due to probate. Luckily I did not lose the buyers for my Dad's property. Eventually probate was finalised in in March 2017. Aviva told me in October 2017 that £127,000 is due if paid by the end of Oct. Probate can take a very long time so in the end my solicitor paid over £131,000. Does not matter if you pass away, placed into a nursing home Aviva will charge interest every day until they receive a BACS transfer for the whole loan from your acting solicitor. Please read thoroughly before taking Equity release. It helps at the time but the end results are soul destroying especially to family.
A Little Known Trap Of Equity Release
The numerous pictures of ecstatic Equity Release members, does not show the worrying side of Equity Release. After a lot of discussion and advice, my husband took out some money to give to our grown up children. Unfortunately he suddenly dropped dead, and I realised that I would have to sell the family home and downsize. I suddenly realised that the original loan of £200,000 had grown to £310,000 in two years, and was growing daily by £40 a day. It was becoming obvious to me that if I went on like this, I would end up with not enough money to buy another house. That, and dealing with bereavement, is something I would not like anybody else to go through.

Good Advice And Well Followed Through.
The advice I received seemed to match my circumstances well and I'm hoping this stays true for the long-term. Really happy with how the team followed through and got my plan going quickly.

My Equity Experience
Just like to say how professional the advisor from Retiredom who came to see us was . He talked everything through with us so we understood in lay mans terms exactly what was involved. We could contact him at anytime of the day and would always get back to us if there was something we couldn't understand.

I'm So Glad We Chose Responsible Equity Release
I clicked on the link to RER at random and am so glad I did. From the very first moment of the return phone call I knew I had made the right choice. No hard sell, just sensible advice and a genuine interest in what we needed. Now that everything has been sorted out, I feel so much less stressed and can't speak highly enough of the whole process. We are in a position to pay off the equity release at some time in the future, but even were this not so, I think that it is a really good way of making retirement less worrying.
