A Shabby Car From Abbey

uys a few months ago. One week after purchase there was a catastropic oil leak from the sump pan which was obviously corrodeded to bits. Called Abbey and the first response was "you must have hit something" and "you will neeed to get it towed to us or we can't do anything". To be fair, they did replace the sump (I still had to pay the 35 quid for the tow truck though). At this point I was concerned about corrosion and the general condition of the car, and requested an inspection (at my expense) to be done to check it was safe. Abbey would not allow this on their premises, at which point I refused the car under sale of goods act, the salesman's answer was "see you in court then". Problem was, they still had the car and the money so I had no option but to pay for another tow truck to bring it home (wasn't convinced the car was safe to drive) so that I could have it inspected.

I got the inspection done, the report confirmed that it was in poor condition with various other corrosion issues, and an unidentified mechanical grinding noise. The inspection report concluded ' It is therefore the opinion of the Engineer that the vehicle was sold in a deteriorated condition with imminent or present failures that rendered it unfit for its intended purpose.' But I decided against going down that route for various reasons - life is too short and I have a demanding job and better things to do with my spare time than taking car dealers to court.

As it was, it turned out that it came back from being "repaired" by Abbey with a seized compressor and sheared pulley on the aircon(that was the grinding noise). In the 3 months since then it has also needed a replacement rear lambda sensor and the radiator started leaking.

Anyway, I'm finally getting rid of it today, trading it in for a (hopefully) decent car. One strong memory of buying the car is the salesman saying ‘ it will definitely do the job’... well all I can say is it didn't - all it has done is cost me a lot of money and one thing has broken after another.

My advice to anyone buying a car from these guys : They probably sell some good cars and I know they sell bad cars. On that you just take pot luck. If you end up with a bad one, my experience is that you will have a problem - they will try to get out of their legal responsibilities and only care about keeping your money. Forget customer service. If that is how things are then you might as well cut out the middle man and just go straight to the auction. It would be cheaper, less stress and at least you know exactly where you stand, buyer beware.

Avoid This Dodgy Dealer - Abbey Cars, Dunfermline

I arranged to view a Porsche Panamera with the intention of purchasing it, and flew from my home in Devon to Edinburgh on a one way ticket in November 2014. To demonstrate my goodwill I paid a £3,000 deposit by bank transfer so that they would "hold" the car for me. The car was not as described - in fact it was pretty poor - and after numerous telephone and email requests for the return of my money, which were ignored, I took the case to the Scottish Court Service in Dunfermline, case number SA102/15 which was due to be heard in May 2015.

Surprise, once the papers were served on them they returned my £3,000 direct into my bank account on 10 April 2015! They boast of having been in business for more than 40 years.Do yourself a favour, do not pass any money to these people unless you are sure that they will supply you with what you expect.

BEWARE ALSO, the maximum sum that can be claimed from Scottish small claims court is just £3,000. HOW LUCKY WAS I?

The Worst Dealer I Have Ever Dealt With (avoid At All Costs)

There are enough bad reviews on here with regards to this dealer so I do not need to write a full in depth review. However, all I would advise from prospective buyers is to leave this company well alone. Especially if you are not a local.

It doesnt matter how much you think you are getting a good deal, do not be tempted to buy from these people.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Car Sold To Use With A Dodgy Mot..

we bought a 2008 mini clubman for my pregnat wife as her cooper drop top was no good for when the baby arrived we though that we got a good car and a good deal just under a years road tax and also 6mths mot....well thats what we thought. we had trhe car booked in for the mot in november which is what it says on the mot we were given for the dealer. the day before we were coming out of glasgow and were pulled by the police who yold us infact the mot ran out in July...and for this we were given a £100 fine now we spoke to trading standards who have advised us the garge are liable and we have written to the garage who will not responded to use....in fact they told us to do what we needed to do.....

now we are were not asking for the world just the £100 for the fine as we understand errors do happen but this is now not funny..

please avoid them as there after service is shocking..they do not seem to care that my pergnant wife would be or was in fact driving a car which has no mot and therefor could be unsafe please be careful

as THEY DO NOT CARE

Don't Buy From This Garage (please Read )

I first saw the car a Vw Golf TSI on ebay which was been sold but abbey motors.I had been looking for a TSI for so long and thought I found the perfect car so I arranged to travel up from Newcastle on the train to see it.once I arrived there was only one hour left before the garage shut so DOUGLAS ARNOTT'S rushed us around and took me out for a quick test drive. Since this was my first car when we were out on the test drive I spotted a light on the dash but didn't think anything of it as assumed it was suppose to be on.Anyway after we had been quite abruptly made to finish the deal since the garage was about to close, and who I later found out was the owner in the back office popping his head up at the window like a little meerkat every two seconds to see if we had bought it yet.Anyway after quite a stressful experience we were handed the keys and my mum came with me since I had only passed my test a couple of months before she was driving it back soon as we pulled out the gates she said that's the engine management light on and I said that the light that was on when I took it for a spin.By the time we turned around the garage was shut and everyone has gone, anyway we made it home in the end and given that it was a Sunday and then a bank holiday Monday on the Tuesday we took it to a local garage who plugged it in and the machine said it was a camshaft sensor £20 part.so I rang Abbey Motors straight away and explained about the light and the part which they didn't seem to interested about but they said they would refund the money this is a couple of months down the line now and the £20 still hasn't been refunded its not the amount it's the principle that it was still under warranty I should have been refunded the money. So that was that about a month after the car had that part replaced and the light went of it had came back on again but this time the problem was a lot more serious this time it said the timing needed resetting which is quite a big job and the chain replacing. What makes it even morse is I haven't been driving the car since I am waiting till the end of the year to insure it the furthest it's been is in and out the garage an something that serious had went wrong,it wasn't under warranty since they only gave me a weeks warranty and said that was the longest they offer even tho the reviews on here say they got a month

(So in the end it cost me £1220 to fix me car which his a hell of a lot considering I am only 18 and on a low income and the car cost me £6100 to buy )

SO PLEASE DON'T MAKE THE MISTAKE I MADE!!!!!!!!!
