If I Could Rate This Shower In The Negative I Woul

If I could rate this shower in the negative I would. This year I bought a Discovery 3 that cost around £18000 from Stratstone in Hull. As the car was being brought in from a sister company (Evans Halshaw)it was sold on the promise that any problems would be put right to the expected Stratstone standard (!).

We arrived on the agreed day to collect the car to find it wasn't ready and had not been valeted. We went away to return the next day.

When we were finally allowed to see the car we found it stank of cigarette smoke and was dirty inside. When we got the car home and we found the dashboard, three door panels and the tailgate were scratched. We called Stratstone and were told to bring it in for an inspection in a few weeks. We took the car on holiday the next week to the Lake District and had the power steering unit fail. We took the car to the nearest dealer, Kentdale (who were superb) who fixed the problem for free!

The next week the handbrake actuator failed, then a seatbelt fell to pieces. The car was due for MOT by now and failed on brakes and tyres. According to The Stratstone Quality Promise these items should have been new or nearly new. More worryingly the broken seatbelt passed the MOT. Funnilly enough when the bill was presented for around £600 and we pointed out that the warranty covered this the receptionist nearly shat himself as he hadn't realised it was still under warrantry. By now we had owned the car for four months and had endured Stratstone lies and nonsense again and again.

We'd had enough by this point and got our solicitor involved and got some excellent information to present to Stratstone and they decided to talk about putting the faults right. Two months later after the parts and sales departments had argued about who would pay it was agreed that we would take the car in for a week to be repaired and a loan car would be provided. It was however imperative that the loan car was returned on the Friday as it was booked for another customer, the company would call on Thursday to confirm what time we could collect on Friday. We heard nothing until Tuesday and then were complained at for not returning the car on Friday (ours was not ready until Monday afternoon).

When we collected the car most of the faults had been rectified and we were shown a bill for £2000.

We then told the company that we wanted a further six months warranty and after two months and dozens of phone calls they agreed. It is now the end of March and we are still waiting for the warranty to come through.

Bear in mind were have spent over £30000 with Stratstone over five years and still got treated with utter contempt. The car we bought was not fit for sale, the salesman suggested this was our fault as we had requested that the car be sent over from Evans (we found it on the Stratstone website). We were naive to believe that a car bought blind would be the car promised, a car salesman is a car salesman wether he works fo Arthur Daley or a large national company.

I will never spend another penny with this company and am waiting for the warranty we have never recieved to expire before I send details of this transaction to Pendragon and Landrover.

For the record, this branch of Stratstone has now been taken over by Hatfields. The two salesmen responsible for our problem, still work there.

Absolutely agree, we had a very poor experience at the hands of Stratstone in Hull at the hands of [name removed] a salesman of the Arthur Daley school. We bought a car that we were not allowed to see but were promised it was in a condition up to the 'Stratstone used car promise' standard. He was happy for us to put our newborn in a car that stank of smoke and had numerous mechanical problems. Six months and solicitors letter later they sorted it out and this worm actually had the gall to tell us it was our fault as we'd found it on their website. Hatfields is the new owner of this branch but [name removed] and is very dodgy sales manager still work there. If you want the advice of a previous customer take your money elsewhere.

Stratstone Landrover Hull have been taken over by Hatfield Landrover. For some reason the powers that be have decided it's a good idea to leave the appalling saless manager in charge of sales (the main cause of our problems along with his pityful sales force and the reason we are now Armstrong Massey customers). Armstrong by the way can't do enough for you and fully valet your car even after a service or MOT. We're on our fourth and fifth Landrovers which are both from Armstrong Massey and have no complaints at all.

Amazing how one bad review can colour your opinion of a company. As an existing Stratstone customer who has had neither a particularly good or bad experience when shopping here, I can relate to the opinion that the company don't really care about you as a customer. I have had no problems with my cars from here but the service at the hands of both sales and service staff is generally fairly poor.

I found this review very helpful because... I am currently a Stratstone customer about to buy a used Freelander. Not anymore!
