Sell Faulty Cars!!

Avoid at any cost! I have had cars from Nissan and mg...after care amazing. Bought a car AC wigan engine managment light on, told the issue would fix after a good run out..it did.. next issue the fan belt..fixed..then air conditionee issue..fixed (all these in first month of buying) less than 12 months the original issue with engine light comes on again..same issue but this time want £500 (paid for fault cover but apparently not covered!) even though pretty obvious a fault before I bought. Manager at wigan no help, should have listened to others regarding the shocking after care

Ordering A Motobility Car

Just ordered my next mobility car from Arnold Clark wigan. The motobility dealer was absolutely fantastic. He was very clear on all the information on our chosen car. We got exactly what we wanted.(and more) Everything was very straight forward. We came away very happy. Would definitely recommend this dealership.

Shockingly Overpriced Repairs!!!

I recently asked Arnold Clark to change my Jeeps front wheel bearings, apparently they could not do this without a £108.00 "diagnostic" charge which I begrudgingly agreed to pay.

After a day with my car I received a 'phone call at 4-30 (I had agreed to pick up the car at 5pm) to inform me that .....yes my wheel bearings needed changing!

AC are 35 miles from my house but the closest Jeep dealer so £108.00 lighter and 4 hours of travelling later nothing had actually been done to the car.

The quote to actually do the work was £300 per wheel and I would have to book the car back in and take another day travelling back and forth. After ringing my local garage who deal with my wife's car I was quoted £276.00 for BOTH wheels and no diagnostic charge!

I do expect to pay a premium for mains dealer "service" but AC's total price would be £708 compared to £276??? How???

I also had an issue with a 2nd key not working AC would be happy to supply a new key, at £200+. this has now been repaired by a mobile car key specialist at my home, for £40.00!!!

Needless to say I won't be using AC for anything in future and I would encourage anyone to seek 2nd opinions and additional quotes before you let these rip-off merchants work on your vehicle.

Lies And Waffle To Sell A Car

I was looking for a car and the model they had was very low mileage compared to the others I had seen in other dealers, so I decided to go for this one, well this or another that was slightly higher mileage.

I looked at the car and decided the other one was a better prospect as the colour was less susceptible to showing marks and also it had a decent spare, not a toy one, as well as matching tyres. The salesman kept pushing and pushing to go for ther other one as it was lower mileage and also he said he could get a better deal on it.

I eventually agreed to look at purchasing the other one, they would not move on price and the offer for my car was pretty paltry but I was in position of car I wanted and with the low mileage as well as a nearly reasonable price.

I did state I thought that it was of a mileage that needed a service including an oil change and also that the A/C would be of an age to need regassing. I pointed out that there were some chips on the paint, also I expected a year MoT and that the tyres were 3 different types so needed at least two to be replaced and the tracking checking as this was probably the cause of them being changed.

Upon collecting the car I was told the A/C had been checked, he had put his hand in front and it was cold - this was the start of me finding out that next to none of the agreed items had been done.

The car had 18500 on the clock so really an oil change was a good idea, I found out it had not had one since delivery but was informed it didn’t need one as the service wasnt due (4 years!). When I queried why I had been sold a 2 year service and MoT plan when it didn't need servicing, the manager informed me people like to have a car serviced each year and anyway the manufacturer recommends the oil is changed at least every 15000 or 2 years at most - do they and that’s why they didn't change the oil then is it!

When my partner got in the car a piece of mat was missing from one of the underfloor storage boxes, her foot slipped on the plastic and she would have noticed this on the test drives, so it had been removed later. When I asked the salesman about this and the blank for the 12 volt power outlet, he said he would get some off another car as that is what they do - so that is why they went missing probably, he never did supply these.

The long MoT was 7 months at best and they also told me the tyres were low and should be changed, I was not best pleased, it never had a service prior to purchase, not all the chips were done on the paint, the tracking not touched, bits 'stolen' to put on other cars probably, the A/C not gassed, a lousy trade in - this was less than my partner was given for an older, smaller and dented car that she traded in at another garage, they only gave a two month warranty compared to other places giving 3 and 6, sometimes 12 on similar aged cars.

I did complain via email and after being contacted I was offered 2 tyres at cost and the A/C gassing. I checked on the tyres and their idea of cost was at least 10% more than selling price at any tyre fitters. This made me feel as though they were just taking the mickey at this point. I did get a follow up call to see if I was now a happy customer and would recommend them - guess what the reply was? Suffice to say they then proceeded to ask if they could get the manager to contact me to try and get some resolution to my issues, I replied that the resolution would be to do all that was said would be done or pretty close to it or there really would not be much point - I was never contacted, how surprising, some new tyres, a service, paint touch up, piece of mat, 12V blank, tracking, A/C gas (though hey did offer that) and maybe I would be happier. I think Nelson is more likely to get his eye (and maybe arm) back before things are rectified to my satisfaction!

If you really have to go to this Arnold Clarke in Wigan, sell your car in advance if it is feasible, wasn’t for me so got ripped off, anything they promise to do - get it in writing and have it signed by salesman and witnessed by the manager otherwise it won't happen as everything that costs is taken from the sale of the car so the salesman will lose out, hence they do as little as possible.

Also whilst the salesman was away for a day or two I went in about something and another salesman tried to get me to buy, at a higher price telling me it would be sold as there were lots of people after it, he made out I was stupid not to take what was offered, he was very condescending. The dealings to get a price took an age, my partner had a decision on the spot when she was with another dealer, this took nearly two weeks.

Avoid this place for buying a car, the girls on the service desk are fantastic and very helpful but they are not the ones who do the selling, would be a lot better if they were.

The car is now in for some blocked drains that have cased the heater motor resistor pack to blow and that is costing nearly £350 along with new tyres all round (not being done there), not a very cost effective car really.

Acted As Though They Were Paying Me £9000 Not Vice Versa

Found the service great, until i'd actually paid a deposit. Waited for the car to be transported from another showroom, without any word for a week. Finally received a call on Saturday that I could collect the car on the Monday.

Set off on the Monday evening to collect the car and was told it wasn't ready as they discovered it had a flat battery. Not sure why this was only noticed 3 days later. They advised I could pick it up the next day. Due to being from outside the area, and work commitments I told them unfortunately I couldn't collect it until the Wednesday now. I was told if I didn't pick it up by Tuesday then I couldnt have the same deal (despite me having paid a deposit!)

Then I received a call and was told suddenly the car would be able to be picked up that evening (so within the space of a few minutes it had a flat battery and couldnt be picked up, then suddenly it could be picked up?!)

After going back and forth I decided to cancel the deal due to the treatment I had received and requested my deposit back, which was agreed on. After not receiving my deposit back within five working days I sent a letter to the head office and it was refunded that day with a phonecall to apologise for the service.
