Do Not Use This Rental Sham. Go Anywhere But Here Pleas

After coming to Portugal(Faro) for 15 years we rented cars from about every rental company there is out there.

But AirAuto was the first time and as all other reviews claim it will be the last and this crooked company should be AVOIDED at ALL times. They are unfriendly and will sham you whenever they get the chance to do so.. So DO NOT!! rent a car here and look for anything else. It cannot be worse then this AirAuto company.

They tricked me for 200 euro's extra with the same trick they always use on car returns. The return lot also somehow has a shady, dark and unfriendly feel.

They have been around for too long it seems and if they go out of business they will just register a new name and start deceiving again under a different name. So best is that that new management with a friendly approach to clients will be best. And current people at AirAuto should all be fired.

To bad that i HAVE to give a mandatory 1 star. This company deserves none.

Do Not Use Air Auto Car Hire At Faro Airport

I never write reviews but I wouldn’t want anyone else to be subjected to the shoddy service of Airauto from Faro airport. do not book with this company especially in the current climate with delays at passport control at Faro.

They leave you stranded early hours in the morning, even when you request a late collection and have confirmation of this service. The Company where shocking to deal with the following morning. Greedy, unreliable, my advice from someone who has hired cars for over 28 years at Faro pay the extra and go with one of the bigger companies, All the other hire companies had checked on the flights and the situation at passport control and waited for their clients to hand the cars over, they also provided phone numbers for clients to contact after the hours of 8pm ( unlike Airauto) they didn’t bother to check what was happening in the airport they just closed up and went home to bed. Turned out a very expensive car hire in the end…

Air Auto - Faro Not Recommended

We hired a car at Air Auto via our travel agency. Once we arrived in the early morning you have to pay an additional fee of €40 because they say it is an "extra day " you hire.

Obviously once returned the car they found "damage" on the tire, I made photo's before but made a misstake not to detail it is as much as possible. Normally a new tire (if needed anyhow) you pay maximum €100. At Air Auto you pay €250, do the math yourself.

Extra Warning: Do not let them "upgrade" your car. You will pay for it afterwards. They tried to charge us based on the upgrade of the car (E), while we hired originally a C class.

Additional note customer service: They are not scared to leave you in the middle of the sun with a BABY to make you pay.

Stay away and rent a car via the regular an known car rentals, the price will be a bit higher but the (after)service is much better!

Great Value And Service

Have used Airauto 6 times previously, dropped off a car today and once again a very positive experience. Friendly and professional staff, good car, and excellent value for money. Extension to the rental period was easy and both pick up and drop off seamless. Will be back next year.

Overcharged For Motorway Tolls

Everything was great until I got my credit card report and saw they charged me €21.60 for the motorway, which I used twice, and it was around €3. I contacted them and they said it was admin costs and that is written on the contract, those very small letters!

No one mentioned me a €1.85/day fee otherwise I would have said no. And the admin cost for the device is BS as I had that same device when living in Portugal and it has a cost of €26.50 one time only, and if you pay the tolls by direct debit there are no admin fees involved.

I made a complaint, though I know I won't get anything from it as it's a he says she says situation, and it is written in the contract, those small horrible letters most people can't read, but I'll make sure to warn others for the future.

Just Returned From Faro And Hired A Car With Air A

Just returned from Faro and hired a car with Air Auto. On returning the car they charged me 1476.00 Euros for damage they say I caused during rental. Tried to explain that the damage was noted on the report when collecting the car but they said that although there was damage that this damage was more extensive. I know for a fact that the damage was no different from when I collected the car. Asked to speak with the supervisor he arrived looked at the car from about 3 meters away and said very aggressively that the damage was worse, I was talking nonsense and I would have to pay. Avoid at all costs

Cheap But Beware Of The Costs For The Slightest Of Damage

The cost of the hire was very cheap but this was made up for the very HIGH cost for even the slightest damage. I returned the car with the smallest of dents above the wheel arch which was hardly noticeable, might have even been there when the quickly rushed us around the car when we picked it up,the charge for this was 369 EURO. A very high price, as we know that this very small indentation will never be fixed.

My recommendation is that if you ever rent from this company is to take out the excess insurance just to cover yourselves

Also it takes at least about 45 mins to drop the car off and get to the departure terminal so don't leave it to late

July 2017 Booked Car Via Car Del Mar And Air Auto

July 2017 booked car via Car Del Mar and Air Auto were local car supplier at Faro airport.

Collected car , new and no damages or marks noted

Car was parked in the villa most of the time and used very short trips . No incident or accident or damage noted by me.

On returning the car while I was distracted by my grandson for a moment while the staff was checking over the car for damages, I saw the staff of Air Auto kneeling down on front if the car on his knees. So I walked over and caught him using back of the car key and rubbing over and causing a scuff mark about 1cm . When challenged I became angry and defensive saying that he was checking if there was a insect mark?

I saw obvious scuff mark caused by him.

He alleged that car had a damage and I will be charged . He challenged me that there is nothing I can do about it . I was charged about € 140 onto my credit card .

Now this is a new damage in Portugal.

Even if take photos of any marks on collection but they do damage to paint work and charge you.

do not book with them . Agent Car Del Mar didn’t want to know about it either .

Air Auto car hire at Faro airport is a dishonest car hire firm . They trick clients by charging for preexisting scuff marks or inflict the scuffmafk them selves when returning the car and when you are not watching the chap checking over the car . DO NOT. Transfer wait well over an hour. left the parcel shelf at the booking in shed, emailed them the car details the following day with my details they denied having the shelf and charged me 307 euros online price 82 euros. would not touch this comapany again. Car was in very poor condition for its age with every panel having either scratches or dents

Had the misfortune to rent from Air Auto at the end of August / beginning Sept.

Do not get fooled by the quick look around the vehicle in a very relaxed way when you collect. Come with "We don't worry about this" and "we dont worry about that" .... all very relaxed.

On return it's a very different story, they deny that they would accept any mark or damage (standard patter is if it's not on the form you are liable) and they do not hesitate to charge you exorbitantly for the smallest thing.

I had insurance and it covered my near 500 euro of damage I did not do but was claimed against me. Frankly it's the agro of sorting it that annoys me and in summary these guys are certainly not to be trusted.

You don't need this kind of agro and so you would do well to avoid at all costs.

Loot tourist by fictitious damage scratches on cars. They don’t list it at collection of deliberately scratch and scuff paint work when you are not watching them checking the car .

We have just returned from Portugal and experienced the same problems as many of you. We have reported them to The Portuguese ministry of transport, Police and trading standards. 

My question is have any of you either in 2013/2014 hired a car from them or been issued with a Fiat Panda Reg 89JE 63 Black with lots of damage and untidy? Maybe you took pictures of the vehicle. 

I would be interested in speaking to you as we have also reported them, as they charged our card without knowledge for damage we are not responsible for. We have pictures. Lets see if we can have the authorities investigate this company.

We also had problems with AirAuto last year. Also concerning a black Fiat, but the licence plate does not match. I took several steps myself when I got back in Belgium, but the only thing that helped was contacting Visa. They took care of it and we got our money back. By that time I already received the emailadresses of several authorities in Portugal, but I let it go, since I was already glad we didn't have to pay for the damage we didn't cause. I am very happy to hear that you will take further steps, because it is a true outrage they can get away with it so easily. Best of luck!
