Fantastic Fire When It Worked
Had the fire 10 years now. Puts out lots of heat, never needed it on full power for long. Very stylish.
Issues.
Changing the batteries is a real pain. Need to remove front of fire (screws underneath) which is awkward and fiddly and they seem to run out a couple of times a year.
Ours stopped lighting so after changing the batteries we called out a gas engineer. They replaced 3 different parts (cheapest first) in order to try and find the issue.
They replaced the remote control box (£200 ish) but Flavel forgot to mention it wouldnt work with the old remote so had to get one of those (£90 and another weeks waiting) £482 later and now summertime it was working.
Came to use it in Oct for the first time since it was fixed and it wouldn't light. Engineer thinks it is the gas valve (£360) Not going to waste more money finding out
Not Worth It
It did not warm a small room at all. Good for decoration but thats about it.

Flavel Curve - How To Light Manually.
My Gas Engineer is a star. After many tries to find out why it wouldn't light he rang Flavel and was told how to light it manually. Bit of a Faff - but it does work.
Here goes !......
Lift the Facsia off and set aside. Lift the cover of the ignition mechanism, which is on the lefthand side - and set this aside.
NOW - turn the wheel fully towards you (clockwise) - then push a screwdriver into the hole in the wheel ( this opens the gas valve) and keep it pressed in with your left hand - AT THE SAME TIME - light the pilot light with a match or lighter.
When lit - HOLD IN THE SCREWDRIVER AND HOLD FOR ABOUT 20 SECONDS ( TO WARM THE COIL)
then remove the screwdriver ( or pencil will do ) and the light stays in.
NOW - remember to turn the wheel back again ( anticlockwise) before assembling
the covers.
This does work - I have done it many times. - Although it is extremely annoying
with a £800 fire.

Used 3 Times
Very difficult to light with remote.. Pilot light goes out when on standby. Wish it had an option to light with match. Only used three times in two years but going to replace it. When you need it you just cannot light it!

Electronic Problems
I also have electronic problems and had varies engineers look at the fire without success but hey ho i had to buy a remote control for the fire as the original was damaged , i bought this at a cost of £97 .
i have since found out that you should not buy this on it's own as the receiver in the fire is factory set and paired with the remote control but the supplier did not offer this information at the time of ordering the remote control .
This fire is probably the worst item we have ever spent money on so stay clear .
