Excellent Quality Design And Efficient
I owned a monitor 422 for a decade back in the 1990's....I was impressed even back then. Recently, my fiancee and I moved to a small house in the country with two main rooms open on first level (750 sq ft.) Since I left the monitor 422 in my previous home when sold, 3 years ago I bought a new Monitor 2200 that was used only one season by a person who was switching to natural gas. I was able to purchase it for $600. Great deal! Higher tech than the 422, all of the same features. I have it vented with a window kit! no holes to drill. Before this heating season I did clean the 2 filters (CLV and strainer) Also cleaned the solenoid pump's strainer, and cleaned carbon off the fuel nozzel. Replaced a flame sensor rod/gasket. Took about 4 hours total to complete The 2200 runs like new! nice blue flame. It was time for the tune up. All parts for under $75 I expect the Monitor 2200 to last many years without much maintenance.

Monitor 422, Great Heater
I've got a Monitor 422 that's been in service now for over 18 years. I paid $925. for it new out the door. The only thing I've ever had to do to it other than routine cleaning of the cabinet, interior, fan and fuel filters has been a partial rebuild of the burn chamber about 2 years ago. A complete rebuild kit for the burn chamber at that time cost me less than $200. and I didn't need all the parts in the kit that I bought because, the main and most expensive part the burn pot in mine was still good, it just needed the carbon cleaned from it, a new burn mat and burn ring and a couple new gaskets. They claim the 422 will heat up to 1000sf, but I'm currently heating about 1200sf with mine even in temperatures at 0*F and sometimes wind chills of -20*F to -25*F. Even at those temperatures it seldom goes into high mode and even when it does it's only for a few minutes. I live in south central KY (USA) and this has been an unusually cold winter (2013/2014), it's currently Feb. 15 2014 and so far I've heated my home to 68* daytime and 64* nighttime on about $500. worth of kerosene since about the middle of Oct. 2013. Not bad considering kerosene in this area is $439.9 a gallon. Not only does it do a great job of heating, it's got a programmable thermostat for up to 4 time/temperature settings per 24 hour period. It gets it's combustion air from outdoors and vents the kerosene fumes to the outside through a tube within a tube design that requires you drill a 2 1/2" hole in the wall. In the 18 years I've had the heater the most kerosene I've used per winter has been about 150 gallons and some years less than 100 gallons. Although they are still a great value because of their efficiency they're not as good as they used to be when kerosene was $ .70 a gallon. I recall one year in particular kerosene was $ .70 a gallon and I heated all winter for less than $100. I would definitely recommend Monitor to anyone looking for an inexpensive way to heat their home, garage or business.

This Monitor 422 Is One Of The Best Heaters Out On
This Monitor 422 is one of the best heaters out on the market. Economical to operate. good heat output. I would buy this machine again and again, but they quit production of them in 2004. The good news is that the newer heater is even better! Yes, I live in Alaska too!

The Monitor 422 Is A Great Product That I Would St
The Monitor 422 is a great product that I would still buy today, but they quit making them in 2004. The newer heater the Monitor M-2200 doesn't have the Air Damper Solenoid anymore and is an even better product. Don't let someone tell you that you don't need the air damper ring that goes on the flue as it does have a purpose. It is good to have serviced as it will up your efficiency saving you fuel by producing more usable Btu's (heat)

I Realy Like It. It Does Have Some Down Falls, Bu
I realy like it. it does have some down falls, but all products do, letsface it! if you need to heat a home larger, or with narrow hallways,i recomend 2 heaters. we have a small doublewide, and it doeswell, as long as we keep all rooms open. some rooms fartheraway do tend to be a few degrees cooler, but nothing drastic.I just use my good old eletric blanket if i feel a little chilly, andi'm quite comfy. I recomend it for price, quality, covinience, andsafety.

Only Thing I Did Wrong With My 422 Is That I Shoul
Only thing I did wrong with my 422 is that I should have installed it last year. Great
little machine. It is keeping me warm this vary second. Gonna buy my 2nd one this summer
to put it in my parents home.
However,
Monitors are a little expensive, mine was $1099, but as long as it lasts many years it will be
a great value. I burn about 1.4 US gallons of clear kero per day, about $2 dollars per day to heat my
990 sq. foot home. I picked up 2 extra fuel cells for extra convienance. Suggest ohther 422 owners
consider do the same...........
Any Monitor dealership can provide you an extra capsule tank. Should be around $120.00 Jeff Also to Irishope, while not really designed to be portable in the sense of a Kerosun or some other totally portable heater, the only thing that you would have to consider would be the flue that goes through the wall and takes a 2.5" hole. With the internal tank, it makes it somewhat portable, but is about the size of a medium sized hard shell suitcase on end. It also weighs around 64 pounds/29.1 kilo's. Portable for someone like me, but maybe not so for you,...Physical dimensions; 26" high x 21" wide x 13" deep. I hope this answers your questions, Jeff
Where can I pick up an extra internal fuel tank?
If properly maintained, this heater will last you at least 25-30 years. Also, keep the area clean where you put in the capsule tank, dust will get in and foul the little filter down in the Constant level valve/ Fuel sump. it is best if you feed it off of a larger vessel such as a 55 gallon/210 liter drum or a larger tank.
where do you purchase this item an is it easy to setup do you have a photo to show it sound unbeleaveable .how big is this heater i take it not portable or is it i hope
