Decent Entry Level Xc/trail Hardtail

Mine is the 2007 version, it's now 5yrs old. Not much has remained from the initial components, some replaced due to wear & tear, some upgraded as my riding evolved. Frame still going strong after 6000k's. When bought it was better equipped/priced than the competition. Stock components were: Rock Shox Judy2 fork, Hayes So1e brakes, Deore shifters/front derallieur, LX rear derallieur, Truvativ isoflow crankset/BB, unknown double wall rims on formula hubs, Cheap Kenda tyres, WTB Speed-V saddle. Giant seatpost, bars (narrow at 62cm) and stem (looong at 10cm), Frame small (17").

The Good: The fork was actually ok for the price level, better than what's usually found on entry level mtbs. Preload and rebound adjustments actually made a difference and the lockout is useful when riding uphill on smooth surfaces. Transmission still works perfectly (I do clean it though). BB & hubs lasted a decent while. Rims have remained true through heavy use. Frame geo is comfortable, more trail than racing xc. Hydroformed tubes are stiff & look nice too.

The Bad: stock cockpit is very oldschool xc which doesn't help trail confidence. Wheels are heavy. Brakes & tyres decent for city/flat trails, nothing more demanding. Frame uses giant's cheaper, heavier alu. Fork's 28mm stancions flex. Frame is possibly too stiff. 70.5deg headtube angle is too upright for today's standards.

Still riding it and lovin't it, the only thing I'd change on the frame is the steep head angle. A stiffer fork and shorter stem/wider bars transform the bike completely.

Excellent Bike Owned For A Good Year And A Half Ha

Excellent bike owned for a good year and a half having covered almost 2000 miles mostly off-road in the welsh forests of monmouthshire and cwmcarn, also done a lot of commuting road miles with slick tyres.

The fork seals were the first to go at 1000 miles, then rear wheel/rim buckled beyond repair, snapped 2x chains and bent rear sprocket, warped middle 36 chain ring and now the front mech's finally gone....pretty good for an entry level MTB if u ask me. Though the mp3 brakes were'nt brill so I also upgraded to shimano...much better stopping power.

Just had a new bottom bracket and upgraded with RockShox Reba 100mm SL forks & Mavic Cross-ride wheels and handles even better - frame still unblemished and looks the part. You'd struggle to meet this spec spending 800 on a bike after these upgrades.

Recommend for a first bike at this price - it keeps going though be prepared to spend a good 400 quid on it every 2000 miles!

Great Bike, Very Good All Rounder, Sadn To Be Sell

Great bike, very good all rounder, sadn to be selling mine but decided to go for a CUBE LTD PRO hoping it is going to be as good as the GIANT! Brakes are sharp and i have done some Coast to Coast rides on it and coped no problem at all. Great lock out forks and smooth gearing make it a pleasure to ride.

This Is The Second Terrago I've Owned, With Both B

This is the second Terrago I've owned, with both being subjected to a mixture of road use and plenty of punishing off road rides in Scottish and Welsh mountains.

I judge it as very good value for money, easy to maintain, allows confident downhill riding in tricky conditions and is light enough to pick up and carry without difficulty.

Both bikes have proven reliable, albeit I have wrecked one wheel (big Derbyshire river bed rocks) and had to change the gear sets on both bikes after about three years. Other than that no issues, although a sprung seat post would be welcome.

Like all bikes, a good service after the first fifty miles hard riding is well worth it to set the bike up for a good couple of years. This is especially true for the gear cables, which on each bike have needed adjusting twice a year. The new bike's disc brakes are excellent, easily adjusted and enable sensitive, accurate braking (so important on wet rocks!)

Having owned a range of bikes over the years, I can wholeheartedly recommend the Terrago.

I Bought This Giant Terrago Disc Bike Almost 3 Yea

I bought this Giant Terrago Disc bike almost 3 years ago because I was just trying out mountain biking, didn't have much money, and it was a cheap way in. I'm still using it now, though over the years most of the components have been changed as they've worn out, starting with the forks (the Suntours that it came with were rubbish).

Compared to a lot of my mates bikes it seems on the heavy side, though on the plus side I've had nothing break despite some hard riding and some heavy spills.

If I was starting over, knowing now how much I love biking, I'd probably buy something higher spec, but this bike has been great and makes an excellent entry-level choice for someone with not much cash or who can't justify spending more.

I've owned my Terrago for over two and a half years and given it a bit of punishment; I have it servicd every year and other than wear and tear and a few mishaps caused by me falling off and the bike crunching against rocks it keep going.

Good value for money and its ageing well.

The Giant Terrag Is A Great Bike, Brought It About

The Giant Terrag is a great bike, brought it about two months ago. Has been used on road and off road and fantastic no problems the only thing I would change is the cables running under the top frame makes it a bit of a git to carry the bike. If your thinking of buying the bike from new, then once you used it for about 3-4 weeks get it serviced it will make a difference to the life of the bike as this will keep it in tune for some hard riding, I still have it 2 months on and not a thing wrong with it, great work horse. Well done Giant.
